Pentagon successfully tests new hypersonic weapons in Virginia

- The U.S. Navy and Army blasted off a rocket from a seaside launch pad in Virginia to test nearly a dozen hypersonic weapon experiments on Wednesday (October 26) to help develop the new class of weapon, the Pentagon said, calling the test successful.
Sandia National Laboratories ran the test from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, which evaluated hypersonic weapon communications and navigation equipment as well as advanced materials that can withstand the heat in a "realistic hypersonic environment," according to a Navy statement.
Hypersonic glide vehicles are launched from a rocket in the upper atmosphere before gliding to a target at speeds of more than five times the speed of sound, or about 3,853 miles (6,200 km) per hour.
The United States and its global rivals have quickened their pace to build hypersonic weapons - the next generation of arms that rob adversaries of reaction time and traditional defeat mechanisms.
To speed the development the Pentagon launched these experiments and prototypes using a sounding rocket, a smaller and therefore more affordable test vehicle, to fill a critical gap between ground testing and full-system flight testing.
Wednesday's test was intended to validate future aspects of the Navy's Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) and the Army's Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW).
Glide bodies are different from their air-breathing hypersonic weapon cousins, which use scramjet engine technology and the vehicle's high speed to forcibly compress incoming air before combustion to enable sustained flight at hypersonic speeds.
Companies such as Lockheed Martin Corp and Raytheon Technologies Corp are working to develop U.S. hypersonic weapon capability.

Yup! If anyone has really been paying attention. Notice how everytime Russia test a nuclear weapon, they either brag or threaten with it. Ever wonder why the U.S. never talks or brags about its nuclear capabilities?
1. It's a sign a weakness. Something that Russia does over and over
2. No one truly knows the extent of the U.S. nuclear capabilities and they prefer it that way but Russia has some idea of just exactly what they are which is the exact reason for all the bragging about nukes that Putin and the Kremlin has done...has not dared launched not a strategic, tactical or even a dirty nuke.
Putin is a mad man but he is not stupid and does not want to be the Russian president that ends the Russian federation
Yes, agreed.
As I understand, the US Air Force is getting closer to putting their air launched boost-glide weapon, AGM-183 ARRW, into the field and having that capability will give parity with the Chinese, but this scramjet weapon technology DARPA and Lockheed are testing is intended to leap beyond all adversaries. Lest we forget: the U.S. already developed, tested, and deployed a hypersonic missile in 1986: the Pershing 2. It was so dangerous that the SALT 2 agreement contained specific language to limit its production.
and that is what Russia has .. just a rocket engine powered missile, nothing new. The term "Hypersonic" is being broadly applied to next generation Scramjet vehicles and ancient rockets.
Just imagine the things they've improved upon since then.
@@KrustyKlown Well yes, and no. What hypersonic missisles refers to nowadays is not only the capability to reach hypersonic speeds but to be able to manouver while they are hypersonic. As far as I know, the ram jet system can only work after the rocket reaching a very high speed. To achieve this, the rocket was launched to exosphere and then let it free fall and gaining the necessary speed to activate the ram jet. Once it is activated, then the rocket can travel at much higher than the speed of sound (couple of machs). Basically the weapon will be unstoppable by any conventional weapon, except with laser cannon (no reliable weapon yet existed yet).
It's not a ram jet; it's hypersonic; that's above mach 5. In a ram jet the incoming air goes sub-sonic as it's mixed and burned. In a hypersonic engine, all incoming air and fuel mixtures remain supersonic.
@@zeuso.1947 Still in order to activate the system, the rocket need to be on free fall and use gravity to accelerate to the necessary speed. Once it has reached the supersonic during the free fall then the ram jet can be activated. No air compressor is needed to compress the incoming air. The speed itself behave like air compressor. I think if we’re going to apply the argument of “combat tested” to China, we must also apply it to many other nations unbiasedly. While the US has a lot of experience, in recent years it has been extremely rare or flat out non existent to see air to air combat between two latest generation aircraft. We rely upon testing and government/non government analysts for our information of US programs just the same as we rely on the Chinas, albeit China more dubious.
@@treycotter If China was so confident in their military ability, don’t you think they would’ve been attacking ships in the South China Sea or even invaded Taiwan by now?? And the chinese don’t have a fully capable squad of j20s yet bc of problems with the stealth coat and engines, or at least that’s what I’ve heard. Same goes with Russia, they can boast all of this so called “technology” but it’s all a front. I’m not saying chinas is a front but russias is definitely a front. I just feel like if China was so big and bad like they claim then they would actually start taking action in the things they say then sugarcoat it.
@@wckdaintgood you know the whole Asian level unlocked joke? I would not underestimate the Chinese. We underestimated the Vietnamese. Different type of warfare if we were to go at it with China, but still. We have to take China seriously.
Did anyone see the UFO fly past at 0.30 seconds that was awesome.
Yo see the difference between china and russia the Americas weapons work
after this .. I'm nearly sure Russia will test it's new ... light-speed rocket ... :o)
After this Russia will test there speed of light missile 😆
@@publicenemynumber1861 how? They don’t even have the money to fight in ukraine and afford weapons for their soldiers 😂😂😂 Russia is a poor country
@@voidwalker9223 Sarcasm bro 🙄
That was FAST…wow!
That take of speed was fast pretty much impossible to intercept even if you see it take off.
This is not sure. It is just because at 24 frames a second we can't can determine the speed even with a gun.
So basically what he's saying is the submarine and destroyer versions are already deployed, and the army gets their version next year
