You really went ham on the candy aisle! A tip for the double boiler with chocolate: DON'T put the lid on because you don't want any condensation getting into the chocolate. Candy fun facts: Candy Corn, also called Chicken Feed, has the flavors of honey, sugar, butter, and vanilla, and while people often hate it, its the top selling candy in the US with M&M's being a close second. Circus Peanuts taste like banana. Frank Mars, inventor of the Snickers, named the bar after his favorite horse named Snickers. The inventor of the Lollipop, George Smith, also named it after a favorite racehorse. Artificial banana flavor is supposedly based on an extinct banana, the Gros Michel banana, instead of the modern Cavendish, though most chemists think it's just because banana candies tend to use isoamyl acetate or 'banana ester' that smells very like banana, though it and the Gros Michel do taste similarly 'fake'. If you dilute isoamyl acetate it apparently smells like pears! (its also the compound that bees release when they sting you to attract more bees!) And last fact, if you want to blow a big bubble with bubble gum, you have to chew until it has no flavor/sugar in it! Sugar doesn't stretch, so if its still sweet you won't get decent bubbles.
@quack9000 That's because the Gros Michel apparently contains a ton of isoamyl acetate compared to the Cavendish! So yeah, if you've tasted one I totally get that^^ Another fact about it is that it's the same compound that bees release when they sting you to attract other bees, lol^^
Never thought I ever needed to see this concoction come to life. But, after seeing this method of madness, I am very impressed. Cheers to the kid inside everyone!
i love learning safiya lore of her being heimliched by her uncle. also the irony of choking to death on a lifesaver is quite LITERALLY a pop punk song title

Safiya, your narration skills are unmatched. You should be the voice for an audiobook or narrator in a movie. In the least creepy way possible, your voice is the best to listen to!
It’s so much fun, in my old neighborhood (I’m from the south) every house decorated, children, teens and parents up n down the streets in their weird bloody costumes. An occasional haunted house and giant blow ups of “scary” icons like Jack from the nightmare before Christmas. Adults in their finest spooky gear getting blasted lit on their front lawns welcoming passer-byers some food they had out. Always a blast to walk around dressed up even if you weren’t trick or treating, even more so when you know the ppl in the neighborhood. Odds are you’d stumble across someone you know who knew where a party was or invite you to theirs where they more likely than not served Halloween themed food items and drinks.

The chocolate layer probably got that texture due to the condensation from the lid of the pot!! If moisture is introduced to chocolate while it’s heating, it’ll seize. But I think the seized chocolate actually worked out really well for the franken-candy
The b-roll of each candy rotating around is just the cherry on top. Love the details! You’re enthusiasm for Halloween really shines through and I love it
The BEST way of describing candy corn flavor is nostalgia personified confectionary sugar. It has no real flavor that stands out but it has a liminal flavor. It reminds you that autumn is here. Halloween is upon us!
The leftover franken candy categories would be so cool by themselves as well, like at a party you could have: Melted Hard candies = Petrified Zombie flesh, Blended Chewy candies = Werewolf Brains, and Melted chocolate candies layer = Cemetery Dirt.
As a Brit, I'm SHOCKED at how much seasonal candy you have. I don't even think we have seasonal Werther's. Our candy 'isle' in my nearby supermarket is like two shelves wide on one side of the isle.
oh yeah, our stores go all out for EVERY holiday!!! Every Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day, be prepared to see the stores have Red, White, and Blue EVERYTHING out!!!! Same for specific holidays like Halloween and Christmas. Decorations, sweets, table settings, knick-knacks, clothes.... you name it, we most likely have it! 😂
I know they’ve been married for a while but when Safiya called Tyler her Husband rather than her Boyfriend just kind of warmed my soul and made me smile
I think part of your chocolate texture might be due to it seizing. It looked like some of the water from the steam of the double boiler got into it, which causes it to crystallize in a weird way. For chocolate, always try to melt without a lid on it. 😊👍👍 Looks like you all had a lot of fun, thanks for sharing!
Just here to say I appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into this! You and your team clearly spent hours testing all before filming the many many layers, arranging candies, getting B-roll as well as the actual melt down and creation. It’s very impressive and goes above and beyond!
I've been watching MatPat for so many years now and watching you for so many years now too, I love that you guys are friends and I see you guys in each other's videos!!
Fun fact: my dad lived in the same city as the Jolly Rancher factory in Colorado and on Halloween, the factory would give out all the "rejected" candy that wasn't fit to sell. It either got melted into a chunk or the color was off. You could go by and get BUCKETS of it. This would have been in the 1970's so IDK if they do this anymore.
They always did stuff like that back in the day then some ppl messed it up for everyone by suing some companies that did that now they throw everything away even if they haven’t personally been sued they’ve seen it happen to others
I went to the Jelly Belly factory as a kid and you could buy like five pound bags of misshapen beans. Each bag had just a few flavors so it was a great way to get a ton of your favorite for cheap.
The thing I love about Safiyas content is that she not only answers the random/weird thoughts we may randomly have but wouldn’t actually spend the money or time doing but also she is very technical and precise with it. (she’s not just throwing things together and calling it a day) which makes it oh so satisfying to watch and see what happens and the process of it. Oh! And her and her husbands sense of humour and dorky puns. Lol. 😂
It’s so interesting as a European (or specific German) to watch what other countries consider „Halloween candy“. As far as I remember we mostly have haribo in Halloween edition, or classics like „eyeball candy“, worms etc😂
Also I’m pretty sure that our candies would not melt the same way at all, since they’re not the same kind than Americans have (ingredients are different!)
I am also a little confused by that. Isn't any candy Halloween candy if you buy it around Halloween? Do people in America not eat these any other time of the year? What is the logic behind that?
It appears I've watched this before but dang I forgot most of it (OK all of it) ... once again you've taken a topic that strikes as .... odd ... maybe not interesting and turned it into a hugely wonderful watch. Thank you Saf and Ty!!!!!
OMG, I must say I apprecieate the production value in this video! The way you presented the unmelted candy on the turning table, the animations to show how you were going to do the steps, everything looks so good! I love your franken videos! 😍
I need a list of all the ingredients. Not the candy going in, the ingredients for ALL the candy that went in. This is INSANE that you made this and I'm so glad you did.
Willing to bet that, in terms of number of ingredients vs. number of candies, it’s actually pretty small. Just high fructose corn syrup, sugar, some kind of emulsifiers, etc in different proportions

As someone who doesn't live in the US and has never tasted candy corn, I thank you for your explanation and for your candy history!
@quack9000 That's because the Gros Michel apparently contains a ton of isoamyl acetate compared to the Cavendish! So yeah, if you've tasted one I totally get that^^ Another fact about it is that it's the same compound that bees release when they sting you to attract other bees, lol^^

i love learning safiya lore of her being heimliched by her uncle. also the irony of choking to death on a lifesaver is quite LITERALLY a pop punk song title
Saf saying that made me remeber I was heimliched as a kid by my mom. She almost ignored me, but did finally notice the ice I was chewing found a way to bite back 😂
Omg I forgot about that song until now! That used to be my JAMMMM! 😆
Safiya, your narration skills are unmatched. You should be the voice for an audiobook or narrator in a movie. In the least creepy way possible, your voice is the best to listen to!
As a European, the entry into the walmart Halloween section blew my mind. The sheer quantity of everything wowowow. I wanna see Halloween in the US.
I’ve been studying abroad in Europe and I struggled for 10 minutes today to find any form of Reese’s in Tesco 😭 (also yes I realize this is a very first world issue lol)
The sweet aisle blew my mind!
as an australian i can completely agree, everythings so massive there! the mix bags here are like the size of your palm, if not a bit larger meanwhile in america its like 2x that!
tbh US stores don’t look much different from that year-round. i mean it’s a section of an aisle instead of a whole shelf but it’s still a decent amount. not including the stuff at registers
Safiya, I came in here to basically say thank you. Thank you for making me laugh during some of the hardest times of my life. Thank you for being a distraction when life gets shitty. Thank you for always being so funny and so fun to watch when school becomes too much to handle. You’ve always been my favorite RUclipsr and someone I can always rely on to make me laugh. Thank you.
The reason Saf likes candy corn is cus it’s the closest she will ever get to eating candle wax

When she asked what the flavor of candy corn is, my immediate response was “disgusting”. It’s pretty comprehensive
Ozzie’s much fun I wish that I culture babyviws

As someone from the uk watching this, the sheer variety of sweets and decor is insane, we get like a packet of rebranded haribos and a few shitty plastic pumpkins, thats it. I'm so jealous
Frrrr although my mum works for b&m so I get lots of random American sweets and she’ll always buy loads of deccies so our pretty much passes for an Americans haha
Okay yessssss but you guys have an insane amount of tea biscuits that are perfectly designed for dunking. The grass is always greener on the other side of the pond lol

The sheer amount of Halloween Candy in the US is stunning and shocking at the same time. I've never seen so much candy in one place
They do that in Canada, too 😂 It's honestly a lot of the same year-round candy bars, just mini, recolored, and rebranded as ~halloween~ for the season.
Most of it is normal Candy put into variety packs to give away for Halloween. They retheme the bags and wrappers for every holiday.
Yeah it's generally just normal candy but smaller and sold in mixed bulk packaging
tbf most americans are giving them away
i have never even heard of like 80% of the candies she got lol - like tf is a baby ruth??

Candy corn is actually what's known as a "mellowcreme" candy. It was traditionally made with butter, honey, and vanilla (amongst other stuff) which gives it it's signature flavor. TLDR: Candy corn is honey/vanilla/butter flavored
Was coming here to say it’s honey flavored!

Saafiya really is in a different tax bracket for buying all this candy BEFORE halloween!
Seems like a huge waste of money, especially when there are millions of Americans that can’t buy food for their families.
@@paulafamularo5001She already said any extras would go to family and friends for trick or treating and therefore make its way out into the community. Saafiya will make money on this video to offset the cost of everything. The chocolate layer probably got that texture due to the condensation from the lid of the pot!! If moisture is introduced to chocolate while it’s heating, it’ll seize. But I think the seized chocolate actually worked out really well for the franken-candy
Were gonna need a ‘melting all christmas candy together’ now.
I love that she was buying $30 bags instead of creating a list and then buying one of each candy. 😂

That would be absolutely insane 😂❤ but I would love to watch it
ooo yes! A franken kitkat bar!!
Im honestly surprised they didnt do this when they where in Japan
The BEST way of describing candy corn flavor is nostalgia personified confectionary sugar. It has no real flavor that stands out but it has a liminal flavor. It reminds you that autumn is here. Halloween is upon us!
The leftover franken candy categories would be so cool by themselves as well, like at a party you could have: Melted Hard candies = Petrified Zombie flesh, Blended Chewy candies = Werewolf Brains, and Melted chocolate candies layer = Cemetery Dirt.
Everybodys so creative 🫢
As a Brit, I'm SHOCKED at how much seasonal candy you have. I don't even think we have seasonal Werther's. Our candy 'isle' in my nearby supermarket is like two shelves wide on one side of the isle.

I’ve been married a decade and I still feel that way when I say “husband” 😌
I can never escape MatPat…how is he literally everywhere
I think part of your chocolate texture might be due to it seizing. It looked like some of the water from the steam of the double boiler got into it, which causes it to crystallize in a weird way. For chocolate, always try to melt without a lid on it. 😊👍👍 Looks like you all had a lot of fun, thanks for sharing!
I came looking for this reply!
Oh you actually right!
Oh when I saw that lid I screamed!!
Also I think the water was touching the bottom of the double boiler, which can cause the chocolate to seize as well.
It also looked hotttt
Just here to say I appreciate the amount of time and effort that goes into this! You and your team clearly spent hours testing all before filming the many many layers, arranging candies, getting B-roll as well as the actual melt down and creation. It’s very impressive and goes above and beyond!
Imagine Saf and Tyler start craving this franken candy bar. They’ll have to do all that work all over again 😂.
I've been watching MatPat for so many years now and watching you for so many years now too, I love that you guys are friends and I see you guys in each other's videos!!
as someone who sorted, counted, And Rationed their halloween candy, the statistics in this video are healing my inner child. Thank you.
just picturing Saf and Tyler pelting candy at trick or treaters from their apartment like "Please just take it!!!" 😂
Fun fact: my dad lived in the same city as the Jolly Rancher factory in Colorado and on Halloween, the factory would give out all the "rejected" candy that wasn't fit to sell.
As an Australian, I've only gotten my hands on candy corn once, and it tastes like cheap caramel to me, but I was kind of a fan of it actually
Lol. 😂
If this doesn't count as modern day philanthropy, I don't know what does.🤷🏼♀️
I love that you brought your own bags so optimistically and then needed two carts 😂

Germans do love a chewy candy. Especially considering marzipan is basically a national delicacy lol
Ok aber Snicker, Kitkat, Twix und so sind schon Klassiker.
I am also a little confused by that. Isn't any candy Halloween candy if you buy it around Halloween? Do people in America not eat these any other time of the year? What is the logic behind that?
@@thepandaonei think it’s all the usual candies in halloween packages plus some limited editions of some flavours just for halloween

I need a list of all the ingredients. Not the candy going in, the ingredients for ALL the candy that went in. This is INSANE that you made this and I'm so glad you did.
I bet a ton of it would be random chemicals and preservatives and artificial coloring
Willing to bet that, in terms of number of ingredients vs. number of candies, it’s actually pretty small. Just high fructose corn syrup, sugar, some kind of emulsifiers, etc in different proportions
Who loves Safiya and her unusual ideas ❤
