ICEHOTEL & SWEDISH LAPLAND & NORTHERN LIGHTS EXPERIENCE

  • This video is about my unforgettable trip to Sweden, more specifically Swedish Lapland, where I took the night train from Stockholm to Kiruna (and of course back) with a friend in order to discover the beauty of the Swedish Lapland. We got to experience a truly unique overnight stay at the ICEHOTEL, witnessed their art exhibition made entirely out of ice and had a fantastic stay in a remote chalet/lodge on a small island in the middle of a frozen lake while enjoying activities such as dog sledding, snowmobiling and ice fishing. Although the temperatures were really extremely cold at -27°C, we were at least incredibly lucky to be able to admire the majestic Northern Lights at night as well. 🤩
A few interesting facts about the ICEHOTEL, the ICEHOTEL 365 and the ICEBAR: 200 km north of the Arctic Circle, Sweden, the majestic Torne River winds through ancient mountains and deep forests and every year since 1989, when this Torne River turns to ice, a new Icehotel is created in the small village of Jukkasjärvi. The ice of the river transforms to design and architecture - an ephemeral art project - and it was the world’s first, and largest hotel built out of snow and ice, that ironically melts every year in spring (well, except the part of the ICEHOTEL 365).
I was lucky to stay in one of their „DELUXE SUITE 365 HILLA“ which is one of their largest suites. This suite features a heated relaxation area (in the back) with a private designed en-suite bathroom with a shower, a toilet and a sauna. All Deluxe Suites are unique and individually themed and hand carved by artists commissioned from around the world with a wide range of disciplines.
Spending a night in the ICEHOTEL is a surreal experience and a memory for life. The temperature inside the hotel hovers at a constant of -5° to -7°C. The hotel provides you with expedition-style sleeping bags which are tested for extreme temperatures, so you’ll be fine with just thermals, hat, warm socks an a mid-layer jumper. You are awakened in the morning with a cup of hot lingonberry juice at your bedside and a sauna session and hot shower awaits before breakfast. The Deluxe Suites are part of the concept ICEHOTEL 365 which is a specially designed 2100 square meter ice art hall available all year round thanks to a specially designed building run on solar power. A real once-in-a-lifetime expierience 😍

I would be lying if I said it wasn't cold, but I was quite surprised myself that sleeping in the Icehotel wasn't as cold as I had expected (-5°C), mainly because of the good sleeping bags. On the other hand, the outside temperatures at night were really extremely and bitterly cold at up to -27°C during my trip in March 🥶.
