  • In this video, I go over the rarities, how ships are seeded in packs, and loosely how to determine expected value. I may do a follow-up with more detail on expected value.
Be sure to check out the Pirates Database to browse through cards and find specifics on cards I mentioned. tilorfire27.github.io/Pirates...
Be sure to check out my website, where I have several Pirates CSG Inspired accessories, such as tokens, ships, and measure sticks. www.meepleswoodworking.com/

Great video my friend, I will have to keep track of my packs, when I open my next booster box.
When i opened my box of South China Seas I got two of the six masted junks but no super rare pack.

Great video! Really helpful for making sense of the crew distribution especially. I was wondering though, how does the card distribution hold up In the post re-brand sets? (DPotC and beyond)

So unfortunately, we don't have much if any pack pull data for sets other than Rev. I could guess, but we simply don't have packs to open to draw conclusions from yet.

Is there some secret to deciphering the rarity of this system?
I have the pack-in guide from whiz kids and the rarity colors don't match the actual parts. I have looked for online guides and those the numbers don't match the actual parts.
I would appreciate any help with this.

Each card should have a corner with a rarity assigned to it.
      Black - Super Rare
      Yellow/Gold - Rare
      Silver - Uncommon
      Red - Common
      White - Generic
      Green - Special/Limited Edition
      Copper - Special/Limited Edition
Also, the first set wasn't consistent with this color scheme (tan cards). First edition didn't have any rarity corners, Unlimited Edition had some with a brass color instead of silver for Uncommon. There's a discord I can invite you to if you want to post pictures with specific questions.

Thanks for the quick response...I think this guide and the video will clear up some of the confusion.
One question...what does Unlimited designate? I find the phrase Limited Edition everywhere but not UL and I have Revolution items marked with UL and a pack-in guide from WK marked as UL

@@conflictmagazine A few sets were reprinted as an "Unlimited" edition, with a UL on the collectors number. Functionally identical. Spanish Main, Revolution, and Barbary Coast had UL prints.

"We have yet to see any packs where you get 2 rare ships in one pack"
BANG. right here on youtube: ruclips.net/video/Y2QV6VLlFCk/видео.html
Been there done that baby! 😆 I don't know if I've pulled any packs like that that are not PotC, but I have a feeling I or someone else has.
I'm really glad you made this video because it is EXTREMELY thought provoking. However, I have a problem with the blanket assumptions based on the "data we have", which is just way too small to say "you're guaranteed to get this combination". Absolutes are not the way to go with this analysis. There are too many exceptions, glitch packs, and collation issues to just say what a person will get from a pack.
I'm also really glad you make these kinds of videos because I think I NEVER would - mostly because I've hardly thought about it, and because in a way I don't care about this aspect of Pirates very much. I'm glad there are others on youtube making videos about the game because even I don't or can't cover all the topics.
I did enjoy the final section a bunch. It is fascinating to make educated guesses based on what profit you expect to get from reselling.

Okay, you found a set we have no data for. If you had linked a video of a Rev pack being opened with 2 rares, that'd be one thing. I saw just yesterday a Fire and Steel pack someone opened with 2 rare ships in it. If I didn't say it in the video, I probably forgot but these trends really just hold up Spanish Main through Ocean's Edge. Starting in Pirates of the Carribean, they got rid of "Generic" rarity and added rarity for the treasure slot, so all bets are off PotC through Savage Shores. Get me more data from opening packs and we can get more conclusions. I can definitively say if you get 2 rare ships in one pack of Rev, it's rarer than super rares. I would also bet that holds up through Ocean's edge.
