Well, the long awaited debut of Victor Wembanyama for the San Antonio Spurs finally happened at the 2023 Las Vegas NBA Summer League. And after just 2 games of seeing him in a Spurs jersey, the world is quite literally all over the place in terms of what to think of it. But within his summer league games vs the Charlotte Hornets and vs the Portland Trail Blazers, there’s a lot of things that not many people seem to be fully understanding.
First, while the display of offense from Victor Wembanyama might’ve seemed “disappointing” to most, it was not far fetched at all from what Victor Wembanyama had been putting up with Metropolitans 92 in the LNB Pro A league the entire prior season. In fact, his offensive versatility was still on full display, and it’s clear through the film there’s a ton of promise for what Spurs HC Gregg Popovich can work with as he shared the court with Julian Champagnie, Sidy Cissoko, Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley, etc.
And then in terms of Victor Wembanyama’s defense that was on display, it’s no secret this will be where his impact might be felt most in his rookie season in 2023. But after receiving this small sample size of what’s to come from Wemby in the 2024 NBA season, we can only speculate what this team, and the play of Wembanyama will hold for the NBA world by the time we hit October.
This video includes 2023 San Antonio Spurs Victor Wembanyama Summer League highlights, also including topics like San antonio spurs 2023, spurs summer league highlights, victor wembanyama nba, victor wembanyama highlights, victor wembanyama summer league highlights, victor wembanyama spurs summer league, victor wembanyama nba draft, victor wembanyama interview, spurs press conference, gregg popovich interview, san antonio spurs news, spurs news today, victor wembanyama news today, wemby spurs, wemby highlights, victor wembanyama g league, julian champagnie summer league, spurs summer league news, wembanyama reaction, wembanyama dunked on, wembanyama post game, wembanyama britney spears, wemby highlights, wemby nba, tre jones spurs, devin vassell spurs, spurs free agency, spurs offseason, spurs draft picks 2023, etc, which I do not own ANY of the rights to whatsoever, as these are intended to be used under the guidelines of fair use through RUclips.

Even in the bad game i thought he did fine. He wasnt gitting shots but he played great defence and made some very nice passes. All rim protectors will go on some posters. I just cant wait to see how he performs with the actual team. Could be really fun

He will ajust to his mates, his mates will ajust to him : that's how it goes. The second game was something else and combined stats on two so different games are meaningless. All that is just a warm up. Pop signed for five years, not for five games : he knows why :-)

HOnestly, I expected his debuts to look like this. VB needs adaptation time to US basket first of all. Secondly, he's young and needs to handle with the unpreceeding pressure put on his shoulders by fans, medias, etc... If the Spurs are patient, help hi and make good choices for him to develop naturally, then we might havesee something really awesome getting out of it. But one thing is sure, apart of the struggling moments, the missed shots etc... there were some moments of pure magic with Victore defending the rim, being happy to be there etc... I think all will depend on his teammates if they do the necessary for him to feel good and develop or not. As we are in a rather individualistic period of living it might be hardbut looking at the Denver Nuggets, it's not impossible. Well, at last, he's already bringing to the economy and eyes of kids a new hope and energyso let's thank him for this; he's contributing to the popularity of the sport and he's a fresh young boy that seems to love playing basketball, which is not the case of all players more doing it for a living than for the love of the game.

I think that half the time, more than half actually, some of these talking heads talk just to hear themselves talk.
This guy has skills. That is why they brought him in. And those skills have been shown in other places. If he had a poor game initially, he came back stronger with a nice performance. With all the hype, and the distractions, there are a lot of pros that would have struggled a bit. So I don't think it is the end of the world
if a 19 year old kid has a hiccup or two. And any Bust talk is wildly premature.

    Positives:
He has elite rim protecting skills
His size & length gives him a huge advantage on the boards, which will lead to lots of second chance points
    Average shooter
Great at finishing at the rim
Negatives: Ball handling skills are sub par, NBA players will knock the ball loose if he tries to hold the ball too long
Strength will be an issue vs guys who are physical in the paint

You are right. This young man should concentrate on playing close to the rim and select his long-shots. He should put on some weight and play slower, selecting his options better and with less flashy displays. With his height, he can dominate and pass the ball, creating more opportunities for team-mates, like Jokic instead of aiming at high-scores. My fear for him is that he will get seriously injured in one of those uncontrolled plays where he falls down to the floor. Remember: he is in the prime of his life, but with his height, he is likely to suffer from knees, ankles and feet like every other big man. He should look at Nowitzki and Jabbar for long-term preservation.

His stats will be relative to the minutes Pop gives him. Tony averaged over 34 minutes only 3 times. The first time being his 3rd season. He played in 80 or more games only 3 out of 18 seasons. Timmy was a solid 39-40 minute guy his first 6 years right off the bat. He played 80 or more games 7 times out of 20 seasons. Robinson was 37-38 minutes his first 7 years. He played in at least 80 games in 9 out of his 14 seasons. I think Wembys ceiling is 22/12/4/4. I think his floor is 16/8/2/2.
