Having watched Bol Bol in Denver for 3 years I can say with confidence, that Wembanyama can do things Bol will never do like give consistent effort every night. He can try on defense. He can try and integrate his game with his teammates. He can not pout if he feels he's not getting enough minutes and sit there like a statue at the end of the bench. He can do 1000 things Bol will never do, like be a consistently good player! It's not an accident both Denver and Orlando simply got rid of him for essentially nothing. It's not just injuries. Its that he only makes an effort when he feels like it, and that is occasionally. Wembenyama would have to TRY to be that bad!

Great assessment but would disagree on calling the Pro A League only eight-best in the world last season which probably undersells Wembanyama's play a little bit.
The French league has improved considerably in the last few years and, factoring in depth, is probably jousting for second-best domestic league in Europe behind Spain with Turkey in terms of EuroLeague and EuroCup representation. That the likes of Mike James and now Kemba Walker are choosing to play there I think speaks volumes.
I think that list you cited is a little outdated because it still has the Russian VTB League on it which unsurprisingly has seen a big exodus of international talent over the last couple of years! 😅

I agree I think it could be a health thing with Bol. Maybe the issue is that his body is just not allowing him to go full speed all the time. We have seen how easy the game can be for him. A team or a player may not necessarily disclose every injury there is.

I watched almost every Magic game last season. Bol’s issues are effort based and he’s still of the mindset that the offence should revolve around him. What he needs to understand is that he’s a role player in the NBA. It can be a hard adjustment to make, the quicker he does that, the better.
People will see his highlights and go “wow, this guys a star.” But these are just a handful of plays. When he makes it it’s spectacular, but most the time he doesn’t. You’re missing all the times he tries to take on the defence himself and turns it over, even when he has a teammate wide open. Or how many times he is found lacking in any effort areas of the game.
He has potential, but given how many teams have given up on him, I’m guessing his attitude is not the greatest.
the worst thing is that he is the one to decide to be a role player, god knows how the does his things because if i've got 7'2" stature i would have rewrite the nba records books, there are people that just doesn't have any hungry of greatness.

Sorry, should have understood that this guy is a potential superstar who has been held back by several NBA franchises who apparently just don’t want to win.
They both started playing professionally in 2019, despite Wemby being 4 years younger. I still think the NBA is sleeping hard on Bol Bol, but Wemby has court vision, passing anticipation, the ability to take advantage of screens and space, and defensive effort that are just hard to teach. Wemby is incredible at playing team basketball and looking for the best team basketball play- not just looking to score. One-on-one, Bol Bol could probably hold his own against Wemby. But add 4 other players and he's getting dragged all over the court. I'm still rooting for him, he's very fun to watch, but the reason Wemby was the #1 pick while Bol Bol is fighting to stay in the league starts and ends with their respective basketball IQs.
LeBron and then Jokic are the best in this generation at looking for the best team play, which opens up opportunities for themselves. So far, Wemby looks to have a similar potential.

Wemby’s rim protection is probably his most valuable trait and people obsess over his offensive potential that is also very high.. I’m talking a much more versatile Rudy Gobert on defense.. The biggest difference between Wemby and Bol is that Wemby is a good listener but Bol is not. In my opinion, Bol's former coaches and teammates are uncomfortably aware of his character, personality, behavior and performance. I think it is very difficult for him to get along with his players and coaches. I think that Wemby would be doing fine with Spurs due to friendly personality with cheerful smile. Also, I am aware that he is a very intelligent person who is very willing to listen, learn and do.
