omg... its about time someone spotted this. i havent actually had a bed in like 3 years, im not making this up. but ... the futon is quite comfy... kinda.
I'm so stoked on this. I love how all my favourite production artists are rockin small workstations in their apartments. And their names are masssssive! Gives me motivation to dream big and realize I'm almost there with what I'm doing. I guess all I need is a pretentious image to force feed to the public and then I'll be popular.
Rich kid? Joel had a very humble beginning. He has worked his way up because he is good at what he does! I wish more people would stop freaking out about musicians making money doing what we all wish we could be doing.
he's been saying it was due to the label putting pressure on him to produce more pop tracks, and that he plans to release more ambient stuff in the future. i think theres a bright future ahead of him still
I can't stop watching Joel's ancient videos. There's just something weirdly nostalgic. Maybe it's the classic deadmau5 tracks or the poor quality that's super 2000s. Or both. Probably both (I miss the 2000s).
dude , im so glad you're comming to MONTREAL !!! You know it's nice of you showing how you live , create , party in your vids , Your like the only famous artist who does that you know !!!! Cheers !!!
This is what I gotta love about the guy. He really is just a proper nerd done good. He's got a little cave, and a disco ball, and a futon. The Little Phatty costs twice (thrice?) as much as his bed, because priorities. Fuck sunlight man, whadda we need that for. We got Christmas lights, job done. The KRKs aren't even anything terribly special, because nerds know their specs and hate getting raked over the coals for some brand name. Nerds are cheap, until it's that one thing they throw all their money at of course. Then you gotta get the one with the blue lights, even if it's extra. Really, this apartment could be the apartment of several people I know, and he's fucking deadmau5, ffs.
We just bought my brother the KRK i think 5 rokit 2 or something for his birthday he is MARTIRE not sure if you heard his stuff but im happy to see you used the same stuff with your music love your work man its fucking amazing. Keep it real hopefully one day the EDM club my family and i started will be big enough to have you special guest nice and small and personal but true to EDM :) thanks for all your hard work in your music nothings better to game to man :)
RAT is indeed pure gold. It's an incredible piece of music, and I'll say it's his best continuous piece of music, though not his overall best. Personally, I really enjoy his chill, ambient stuff, old and new. You know, like Brazil (first edit), Soma, Sleepless, as well as some of the stuff he's been putting up on soundcloud lately, like Somewhere Up Here, Satellite, Coelacanth, Omnifck, etc. That's just my preference, although his progressive will always be a close second in my book.
'She's seen better days!' LOLZ! Lovin the 'Shiny disco ball!' Very shiny and ballish :) Can't wait till you come over to ireland again my man! :D Peace out!
I think that his music sounds so good because all of his equipment lights up! Man you do love those lights... the voyager, the nord, the prophet, little phatty the vxt's, the external drives, the xone 3d, the "mother ship". lol
@17ICEFIRE17 they are called studio monitors. Most speakers you buy don't have a flat frequency response (they boost certain frequencies so that your music sounds better, or due to their shape) Monitors are basically speakers but with a flat frequency response, so you hear everything in balance. If it sounds good on monitors it will sound good on almost any speakers. They are a necessity for good mastering and mixing. (and just overall sound production)
Forgive my ignorance, but why do you have so many different computers? Are they connected together some how, or do you use them individually? It seems that a good number of professional musicians use multiple computers like this, but I don't quite know why... thanks!
It's a ton more easier to produce when you started off mixing because you get the FEEL of the tracks. You get a better flow going with the kicks, synths, bass, etc than other people.
hey youtubers,i have been fooling around on fl studio and am looking to get more into mixing. What are some good devices and programs for a begginer that I could learn on.would appreciate the knowlage.thx
Fantastic place, keep up the good work ;) i'm from brazil, and i'll see you on Anzuclub next 12th january .. ;) did you play some bsod tracks on your lone set ? see ya
@bananas5O5 I believe he still plays his songs via scenes or the arrangement view. He also seems to use it for adding variations, effects, and eqing while performing.
i love ur place thinking opf getting of loft real soon but what would u consider good beginer equipment to get to start and im ordering ur fx cd on ur site :P so please helple mau5 ur my idol ur the best your. fan brian ur music continues my life
I wonder which sets he played allowed him to upgrade to that amazing studio he has now...i know i know All of them doi...but there has to be a set or a few sets where he was like, yes, now I have enough to do that
Hi, I don't think deadmau5 will answer this post, so let me give you an answer. Little Phatty has 3 editions: Tribute (blue lights), Stage (orange lights), Stage II(same as previous, but with an arpegiator and USB). All versions have lightened wheels. The prophet 08 has regular and special edition: special edition has glowing wheels and Dave signature, while regular has not.
I keep hearing I shouldn't bother buying monitors unless my room is properly treated, so I just use my hi-fi speakers. But this room seems to be not treated at all, and it's really huge, like 2 times bigger than mine :) Do you think I should buy monitors anyway?
Yeah dude, you sound like a real cool dude man, you stay like that mate, and i shall suport you forever! (i will anyway, i guess, but you know what i mean) Its nice to have someone who is talented but still does things like go on youtube and make videos of all his cool tech so we can get jealous and... Keep up the great work Deadmau5! But dont push yourself to hard! :P
i didn't wanna ask so as not to sound stupid but are you for real!? :P btw, just saw you playing here in santo domingo at the ice box. off the hook. looking forward to bringing you back with pablo.
lol i totally forgot that smarties in Canada were different than down here in the US.. cuz when u said smarties i was like..wtf..those arent smarties.. but then i remembered my travels to canadia
omg... its about time someone spotted this.
i havent actually had a bed in like 3 years, im not making this up.

deadmau5 Well you surely have a bed now, I hope.
10 year anniversary of this post, cuz why not

the song is like an early version of "Complications"
it's called secondary complications and it's a released song.
xNova
I realised that shortly after posting that comment, I only thought it sounded like an early version because of the quality. Woops xD
when Joel used to answer our comments :'(
I'm so stoked on this.

Future here, hi.
This is a great video in the history of the mau5
this is one of my favorite videos and tracks
I can't stop watching Joel's ancient videos. There's just something weirdly nostalgic. Maybe it's the classic deadmau5 tracks or the poor quality that's super 2000s. Or both. Probably both (I miss the 2000s).
therapist: polyrhythm complications can't hurt you, it's not real
polyrhythm complications:
track is not deadmau5 - complications
real track name is Deadmau5 - Secondary Complications
It's incredible to see how far he has gone in such a short amount of time.
Damn look at that setup lol! Crazy time flys :) seems like everyone used KRKs at some point in there life
dude , im so glad you're comming to MONTREAL !!! You know it's nice of you showing how you live , create , party in your vids , Your like the only famous artist who does that you know !!!! Cheers !!!

OMG This Is In 2007
nice setup! I just got that Lemur and
Good to see Joel grow from that to a studio!!!!
i like this beat....
Joel, you are the best!
I would love a tour of the software you use! Are you still using FL Studio at all?
this takes me back
Sometimes things get _constipated_
dat audio compression
deadmau5, I started to make music when I first heard yours. Do you use Logic Pro to make some of your music, and, hi Joel btw..
cool place, is the podspeakers your monitors using for production and such? where's the sub? :)
Forgive my ignorance, but why do you have so many different computers? Are they connected together some how, or do you use them individually? It seems that a good number of professional musicians use multiple computers like this, but I don't quite know why... thanks!
Love the mirror ball. I think every studio should have one.
thats a hell of a studio i wish i could have one like that
"And of course the little Phatty, which is little...and Phat.....ty."
lmao
Things changed so much, the song is so good though :’)
what kind of monitors (speakers) do you have at your desk? and what kind of headphones do you usually use when DJing or in the studio?
the new prophet is soooo sick.
gonna play with it next month sometime zomg
It's a ton more easier to produce when you started off mixing because you get the FEEL of the tracks. You get a better flow going with the kicks, synths, bass, etc than other people.
11 years later....damn the universe is crazy
Pretty cool studio set up.

What kind of Audio Interface is Joel using at 1:18 at the top on the right side of the Macbook.
ayyyyyy richie hawtin uses one of those xone 30s with traktor =D that thing's sick =O
wicked videos man!
The song is: Deadmau5 - Secondary Complications
i think its actually rather cool that you have your monitors in the corner where as most producers are all fucking against it.
Random but what is the size of the room?
lol "wew wew" your gear looks so shiny mr zimmerman
well you have to create a good atmosphere when recording or doing what ever outlet you find creative correct? nice studio!
