Thanks Jack, I appreciate the time, effort you put into your Clawhammer banjo instruction, looking forward to watching for more of those familiar front porch mountain tunes, Ron in WA.
Great to hear and glad to do this. It's been on my "gotta get to it" list for a while. As always, the first step is always the hardest, but now I'm up and rolling. Lots more to come! Glad you're onboard!
Trying to get the hang of clawhammer is harder than it looks. Guitar is my main instrument which i've been at for a loooong time and I don't remember learning travis picking being this frustrating. I will get it eventually with help from guys like Jack that know how to teach even slow learners like me. Thanks you Jack !!!!
The down stroking of clawhammer definitely can present a challenge, and I think especially so if you come from a guitar picking style background. It is indeed, odd at first. But you will get it at some point. Laying down steady rhythm and timing, regardless a speed, is the key in my opinion. Glad I can help out a bit. Keep at it!
This is very good, it is helping me to get back into playing again as it has been so long. I hope you will do some more stripped down version of other tunes as well. Thanks very much
Thanks for this lesson you made it so simplified witch is great now I no how to put the bum ditty in song. I could never get it before. Most informative much obliged for lesson
Great to hear! My initial plan is to do a couple more tunes in the G tuning, then do a couple in G Sawmill and then a couple tunes in Double C. Will be able to cover a lot of ground and build a lot of skills while creating a good repertoire of Old Time classics.
Greetings from snowy Colorado. Glad you enjoyed it! I have a couple more lesson to put together in my Cripple Creek series. Hope to get to them in the next few weeks.
You bet Jack. Hope it helps you out. Lmk if there is anything I can do to make it better--I'm always looking to improve things. I was on hiatus for a couple weeks, but more lessons on Cripple Creek are coming soon.
I recently finished working through this series and wanted to thank you for putting it together. This instructional approach not just explaining the what/how, but the why was amazing for getting me thinking about arrangements and improvisation from the very beginning. It's really been an amazing breakthrough in my learning journey. Are there any resources you can recommend for learning more along those lines?
Alexis, I’m so glad to hear that this series helped you, just as it was intended! I honestly don’t know of any other resources that has taken this approach. I would think there is, but just not to my awareness. I would like to do a couple more series, using different tunes and tunings. but time has been in short supply lately. Maybe I can get another one together this summer.
The teaching pace is just bright for me and the breaking down of techniques into bite sized chunks is so helpful and illuminating, thank you.
Thanks Neil. Very glad to hear that this approach works for you.

Wonderful, and so glad i could help. Yup, once you figure out how the basic rhythm(s) fit with the melody, you really are on your way.
I’ve been excited for this series since you mentioned you were doing it. Thanks for your efforts and for being a great teacher.
Thanks so much Chris! I'm already working on the 3rd lesson.
Thanks for this! A good exercise even if you’ve already learnt to play it with slides etc
Thanks Amanda. I’m glad to hear it appeals to more than just rank beginners!
Great stuff for me. I like your instructional approach and will be following every post. Many thanks for your efforts.
Wonderful, I'm so glad this approach resonates with you. Lots more to come!
Thanks so much Jack, this is exactly what I’m needing to get me past the basic bum ditty and into some tunes!
