Yes, these are really fun lessons and easy to follow. Thanks for breaking them up into manageable pieces.
Thanks Carol. i hope the lessons help you out.
okay, Thanks my friend! I am going to give this one a go I believe. Well played!
Have fun, my friend!
Nicely done.
Thanks Leslie!
great song. I prefer sawmill tuning more and more. I like pulled halftones😁👍
Thanks much!
Wow great
Thank you Stephen!

Thanks so much. Yes, Greasy Coat us a gem!
Thank you for the beautiful song and tablature. I play it in the morning in the yard with coffee.👍😁
Fantastic. So glad you enjoying1
Muito bom

Very well played. I learned this version of Gospel Plow from Dwight Diller directly and I suspect Adam and Chance did also. It's a treat to hear Diller's take on this tune. I vaguely recall that Dwight learned it from Jenes Cottril but maybe not. At any rate, it's just a really neat variation on mountain minor songs since it is played in double C not dgcd tuning.
Thanks so much for your appreciation,Leslie, and also your insightful comments. I think I had a vague sense of this tying back to Dwight Diller, but never followed up on that. Didn’t take much looking on RUclips to confirm that, and also that DD sources it to Jenes Cottrell. Bob Thornburg also put out a very Dillereque version. Also, yes, Double C is the “Swiss Army Knife” tuning when it comes to modes. I did a whole video on that a few years back demonstrating how and why Double C works for major, minor, mixolydian, and dorian modes of C. I even did a sequel video where I played Mississippi Sawyer in Double C, starting in the normal major mode, then working through the other three
Thank you Jack, what an atmospheric tune. It will be an interesting one to learn.
Thanks, and have fun with it!
Great Rendition of this tune thanks for sharing oncluding tab, Jack are you able clarify how you get C minor? Do you just drop 4th string to C or is there more too it, any assistance is appreciated, thanks
Thanks Lee! Regarding the key, the important thing to use the right chords, regardless of the tuning. Playing a C minor chord in the standard C tuning is no big deal (and yes, I just dropped the 4th string to a C from the standard G tuning). You can see the chord forms I used on the tab, but as regards C minor chord, all I did was modify the C major chord that is created by barring across strings 1, 2, & 3 at the 5th fret. To do that, you must fret the 2nd string at the 4th fret, rather than the 5th fret. So instead of a bar chord, it now becomes a three finger chord (again, have a look at the tab). Also, notice that the three chords used are Cm, Bb, and F#m, not the usual C. F, and G chords used for songs in C major. One could play this in Cm using the Double C tuning just as well, but I preferred how it worked in the standard C tuning. Hope this answers your question.
Nice Jack! As always, appreciate you including a brief tune history … very interesting
Thanks, so glad you enjoyed it. And yes, there is significant history to this song.
Thanks for this one, Jack. Definitely a mood setting melody.
Thanks as always Mike!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yes. 'Peat Bog Soldiers '. What a Wonderful Name. Beautifully Played Incidentally. STP.
Thanks STP!
Beautiful tune,,,,thanks for posting sir.
Thanks as always!
I am Korean and I use a translator. I'm sorry for the awkward context. Is it possible to leave a source on sns and register a video of me playing with the score?
Thank you for commenting. No worries on the translator, but I am not quite sure if I understand your question. What do you mean by “source on sns”? I’ll do my best to answer if we can bridge the language divide.
@@banjojack I don't know if the meaning will be conveyed well If you register a video on your personal SNS with that score, I will leave you a link to the original video. That means a link to Jack Boutin's RUclips video will be left in the post. That is, it shows the source.
@@육돌이 This is not something I will do. Please enjoy the video as I posted it on RUclips.
@@banjojack Okay. Thank you for always sharing your score.
So haunting and beautiful, I look forward to learning this tune. Thank you for sharing with us!
Glad to do it. Thanks!
Jack, thanks for posting this and including the tab. For a clawhammer player like me, adapting to a two finger style, especially for a syncopated piece like this takes some work. Great arrangement and a really cool tune. Again, thanks very much.
Thank you Jeffrey. It can take some time to break away from clawhammer mechanics, but just chip away and you’ll get there.
i love the sound on my banjo with goat skin and nylon strings 😁
That’s a great combo!
Wow incredible playing!
Thanks so much!
Thank you!
You're most welcome!
Very nice!
Thanks!
Trying to get the hang of clawhammer is harder than it looks. Guitar is my main instrument which i've been at for a loooong time and I don't remember learning travis picking being this frustrating. I will get it eventually with help from guys like Jack that know how to teach even slow learners like me. Thanks you Jack !!!!
The down stroking of clawhammer definitely can present a challenge, and I think especially so if you come from a guitar picking style background. It is indeed, odd at first. But you will get it at some point. Laying down steady rhythm and timing, regardless a speed, is the key in my opinion. Glad I can help out a bit. Keep at it!
omg thank you for this! going to give it a try right away :)
You are most welcome, banjodaze! I hope you have some fun with it. Since you are a fan of Ola Belle Reed, you may want to check out my Undone in Sorrow playlist. I have a two finger version, an “advanced” clawhammer version, and an “easier” clawhammer version, each with a tab, just like with C&B. ruclips.net/p/PL00z9mDkwwfcvlKZGQouhzt_2AUAkigey
@@banjojack oh my gosh thank you! ☺️ i will bookmark it
Nice pickin'!
Thanks TW!
Fantastic as usual Jack, always appreciate the effort you put into the tabs.
Thanks much, and glad to share the tabs!
Lovely tune,,thanks for posting,sir...
Most welcome!
I love this tune
Thanks Les!
Lovely, Simply Lovely. STP
Glad you like it!
There ya go again. Another one I want to play. Thank you.😊
Ha, maybe I should do “Muskrat Love” or something like that next and give you a break. Thanks Charles!
The other Paul Brady song. Nice!
Thanks Frank! Yup, after working up Arthur McBride I got on a Paul Brady kick, and well, like you said, “the other Paul Brady song”.
Very nice 😊 I found your tab from somewhere for this and decided I would look up your video to see how you’re doing that pull-off in ending measure 2 and then in ending measure 1 in the chorus. Haven’t seen or done that before.
Thanks Tessie Mae. Glad it was helpful!
Nice version 😊 do you think it would be more difficult to play this tune clawhammer style?
I’m sure this would work with clawhammer. I tend to prefer two finger picking for waltzes these days. So, it’s really just a stylistic preference. It should be possible to extract the melody notes from the 2F tab, then work up a clawhammer rendition.
@@banjojack Thanks!
Thanks for this! A good exercise even if you’ve already learnt to play it with slides etc
Thanks Amanda. I’m glad to hear it appeals to more than just rank beginners!
Jack, are the tabs available? You are going to keep me busy for a very long time.😊
I just finished the tab (and made some tweaks). I am going to post a full length video with the tab, as usual. It’s next in the queue, so hopefully this week sometime.
Thank you!!!!!
You bet, Charles1
Thanks for this Jack. On my to-learn list.
Glad to do it, Paul. Thanks.
Nice “noodling”!!
Thanks Mike. Usually my noodling is just that. On rare occasion something emerges.
Nice one Jack. I play your 2F tab of this, maybe it’s time to start learning clawhammer.
Give it a go! Clawhammer will be weird at first, with the down stroking and finger lead, but it will kick in at some point.
I’ll give it a try. So much good clawhammer music out there!
Nice melody and you play it so smoothly! Continued thanks, Jack. I will add it to my practice today!
Thanks Mike!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yes. Sunday Morning. What could be better. Respect. STP.
! hope the rest of you Sunday went as well. Cheers, Jack
Nice tune and love the sound from that banjo, thanks for another tune Jack.
Thanks Tom!
So perfect!
Thanks Edward! I had tabbed this arrangement some time ago, but just yesterday I realized I had not posted a video, even though I meant to.
Thank you Jack, I'm very early on in my banjo journey, I enjoy listening into your videos and gleaning some helpful tips and approaches to the clawhammer style of playing. I really appreciate the tablature for this tune as well.
Glad to know that I’m helping out. And yeah, I think you have the right approach-glean what you can, or what resonates with you, from the tabs. That’s pretty much what I have done over the years. Have fun, and thanks!
Thanks for posting sir,,,,very nice tune. ❤
Thank you, and glad you enjoy!
First clawhammer tune I learned five months ago, using the tab from your other video on this song. Probably wouldn’t still be playing if it weren’t for your videos and tab, so thank you very much 🙏
Fantastic! And wow, that is a challenging arrangement for a first clawhammer song. It’s my pleasure to help where I can. Keep on pickin’!
