  • Here is an unusual one, long landing in Bremen Rwy 27,
    The long landing alert is issued when the aircraft is above 5ft but within 100ft agl, past 1/3 of the runway distance or the weight on wheels is false.
    In this case, the first scenario applies, light aircraft and floated for too long.
    let me know what you think down in the comments! :)

    Well Bremen has a fairly short runway so I’m pretty sure many pilots experienced long touchdowns there. Thanks for sharing this and have safe flights.

    Great video, thanks for sharing! Vref was spot on...stunned by the armchair pilot comments, as always.
    Need to change the voice of my RAAS - this one sounds much more weired than the X-Plane plugin I use ;-)
    It was EDDW airport where I went dozends of times with my friend to watch aircrafts and smell Kerosine in the 80s. Bac1-11, A300...While I didn´t make it to the jet flight decks, my son did. cheers

    Nicley done! I must say she's very agressive ;) . If you have time I had a question, I was under the impression that as soon as the TD zone ended you were mandated to fly a go around regardless of runway lengh. Clearlly this is not the case haha , is there any particular point at which you have to fly a go around or is it just based on good eyeballing and flying experience xp

    • @AviationHubOfficial
      @AviationHubOfficial  3 года назад

      Well you can always go around anytime you don’t feel it’s safe to continue; in this instance if the lady shouted before touchdown it would have been a mandatory go around, if happens to be at touchdown it is safer to continue with the landing! :)

      @@AviationHubOfficial Ah makes sense thank you! Im assuming then, maybe, the TD zone policy is used by airlines that dont have RAAS equipped in their aircraft, maybe thats where I got that from. Thanks very much mate!

    Really interesting video! I never heard that call out before. If you could do this landing again, everything the same, do you know what would you do different to land right it on the touchdown zone?
    I think this happened on a EZY flight I was on last year, there were only 5 pax on an A320, felt like almost half the runway went by before we touched down!

    • @AviationHubOfficial
      @AviationHubOfficial  3 года назад +10

      Definitely less thrust Jack! It takes always a bit more thrust for a Flap40, which was the case but we were still to light, I think we had something around 30/40 pax, it was the first time for me to hear it as well! Wasn’t really expecting that angry woman shouting at me 😂

    • @AviationHubOfficial
      @AviationHubOfficial  3 года назад +9

      Hi Tim, the aiming point is usually 1000ft down the runway which is the 2 big white blocks you see me missing, the touchdown zone markers are the ones occurring every 500ft, you are correct if the alert was issued prior to the touchdown it would have been a go around, however as the alert has been issued just at touchdown the safest course of action is to continue on with the landing :)

  • @bobd5740
    @bobd5740 3 года назад +1

    Just a guess but you probably came in a little "hot" to correct for that x-wind from the left. X-wind probably caused you to float a bit too at t/d. End of runway came up pretty fast though but you got the thing slowed down to 60kts in plenty of time. What does the PF have to say? Am I off base? - I've never heard that callout before either.

    • @AviationHubOfficial
      @AviationHubOfficial  3 года назад +4

      Hi Bob :)
      I was the PF myself, there isn’t really a call to be made other than Go around if the alert is issued before touchdown, you could still go around after touchdown thats assuming the reversers have not been deployed; I do agree with you, that was slightly faster than usual, about the same n1 settings for a flap 40 but again this was a way lighter aircraft; nothing to do with the xwind really, but yeah it also stops a lot quicker. I have a lot of friends and colleagues who have experienced and heard this specific callout but I’ve never heard it before so that was my first time as well!

    Most of the banking left and right seems induced by the pilot going left and right, plus no tailwind so I don’t see any reason for the long landing except the willing to make a soft landing.

      @@AviationHubOfficial in my school floating beyond touch down zone would have been a go around, hence trying to save it would have been a fail. does that rule make sense in day to day ops? I wouldn't say so, but that's a different story 🙂

    • @AviationHubOfficial
      @AviationHubOfficial  3 года назад +3

      It’s always nice to see flight schools procedure, my personal guess it is because you’re the one paying anyway, you know probably better than me, any sep or mep aircraft can be stopped within few hundred meters, and any runway used by flight schools is normally around 900/1000m so there’s plenty of margin; anyway, safety comes always first and boeing recommends to continue with the landing if touchdown has occured, if not, go around.
      I’m sure flight schools have their procedure in place for good reasons, as you might have seen other videos, they probably don’t want a student pilot with 5hours floating one third down the runway on a solo flight panicking and ending up in some maintenance hangar. I hope you don’t take this personally, it is not addressed to you by any mean, just my personal opinion on why the flight schools procedures are what they are! :)

  • @OldAviation2000
    @OldAviation2000 3 года назад +3

    Clearly risky violation. Touchdown far beyond the touchdown zone, just preceded by the "Long Landing" callout. You should read again your company FCOM (Normal Procedures - 40.9) and FCTM, especially when relating to RAAS and rejected landing maneuver. This video shows exactly why we have a lot of B737 overruns.

    • @AviationHubOfficial
      @AviationHubOfficial  3 года назад +9

      “Clearly risky”
      You must be one of the guy who asks for a pump overheat NNC first during a loss of hydraulic system B because its risky and might catch fire. I also guess because you’re such a geek you must have also done my landing performance which comes with 1280ish meters for autobrake 3, needless to say auto is slightly over 900m and manual with 793 meters, I wouldn’t be in that seat if I didn’t know my company procedures, so save your debrief for next time. And for the records this alert wasn’t issued prior to TD! Fly safe :)
