      I have unrealistic ambitions because I also live in a egotistical society with lots of competition. There's noway I can live without any sort of ego when this toxic society itself is in constant urge to deem my self into a box. Yet I feel empathy for my fellow humans even tho if they don't agree with me. Deep down I also know we're all the same, no one is superior when in nature we're all the same having a massive ego. There's no specialty. And I definitely know I'm not always right cause sometimes I've some sorta self hatred. I think I am some kind of egotistical towards other toxic egoists. As if I'm trying defeat the monster by being an even superior monster myself while being right. So I try to set the bar high of my sense of empathy towards my fellow humans to reduce the sense of ego. I then feel sorry for them for being soo wrong of petting such toxicity in their hearts.

      Self confidence does not equal having a large ego, just like they said in the video. I have a poor opinion of myself and I ended up falling into most of the traits stated in the video (for example, I have trouble accepting my achievements and I always want to do better/more, I have extremely high expectations for myself and I set unrealistic goals for myself.) The biggest sign for me that I strugglenwith controlling my ego is that I sense egotistic behavior in everyone around me and despise it. It bugs me so much when others make identity-centered decisions and make everything abiut themselves. But what you hate in others is usually something you hate yourself for. Liberating yourself from your ego is a long and hard process but I think we can get there. At least I hope we can.

    I used to be like that but one person in particular changed my perspective. You don't always have to be right, you don't always have to feel frustrated about someone else. Other people have other opinions than you and that's going to change.
    Now, about the one that says "you want to bebetter than anyone else, you deserve the same or even more than others", to me this might have been a problem I had as a kid. See, my parents, especially my mom, loved comparing me to my brother or even other kids my age. And yeah...self-confidence drops. Bullying was another aspect. Not having a social circle was also one. I believe that your ego develops with how you were growing up, how the nature you lived in affected you. I still do feel like I can be better but I have said to myself that I'm not gonna become the best at something, because someone out there is better than me at that something.

  • @Persimmonyyy
    @Persimmonyyy 3 года назад +166

    Just a small correction, "Ego" actually does not translate to "I" or "me" in Latin; it only translates to "I." Latin absolutely loves changing words/endings of words depending on what part of the sentence they are, and I/me is no exception. Actually, it changes just the same way in English (though in English, most nouns don't do this and in Latin all do); when the speaker is the subject of the sentence (I see, I go, etc.), we use "I", and in Latin, we use "Ego" (Ego video, Ego eo, etc.). When the speaker is the subject of the sentence, in English we use "me" (They see me, They go to me, etc.) and in Latin, we use "me" (Me vident, Ad me eunt, etc.).
    Not that this matters at all, but I felt like commenting it just for fun, because I'm a nerd who thinks this stuff is interesting, and I thought maybe someone else would too. Valete! < 3

    Most people around me tell me that I demand too much from myself, and recently with therapy I've come to realize that I don't think it's ever enough. Weird to think it might boil down to ego since I've lost so much self esteem, but I guess those two are different. Self esteem is healthy, ego is only for appearances. To anyone who watches this video from now on I hope you see this. The problem isn't your ego, its your lack of it. Its not a good thought process to simply try to become the best, instead crush those who stand in your way, (those that are worse at what you do than you are). Now put yourself in an environment where there are other people with this big ego, then crush them, now you are the best no questions asked. At first you need to think you are the best, then you need to prove it. My soul is awake, I no longer waver, because I know no one can compare to me.

    Narcissists be like this if you dare to show them what kind of person they really are: " you are so funny. I'm not the one calling people "freak" and "idiot"! And no I'm not comfortable at all. Your words hurt quite a bit! I'm not a victim of a horrible person, I'm a victim of and emotionally immature person who has to belittle and dehumanize people make themselves feel better. None of my comments are invalidating, insulting, or bullying of any sort. All of yours are. I understand I'm not doing Grey Rock properly because you're still enticing emotions, but that's exactly what your comments are designed to do, so that you can get the emotional reaction for Supply. I hope it makes you feel so much better because it makes me feel like total crap. Is that enough of an emotional reaction for you???? " Narcissists live from their "talent" to make it look, as if their view is down to earth and not just judgement, based on an isolated view.

    I failed an exam that i was too confident about. But i remember that before taking the exam, i set a goal that i would do better than my friends, who, to me, are certified geniuses. After taking the exam, I was frustrated because of my bad performance. But what really hit me was the smile on my friends faces, who had definitely gotten a better score than me. That's where my ego came to "eat" me, and as such, i broke down. I became very aggressive and shouted out of anger.
    My mind never had felt soo heavy, because i was mad for failing an exam i was confident about, amd jealous that my friends, whom i wanted to be better than, had already passed.I dont think iv ever broken down that bad before, but thats where i realised how big my ego was. I really dont know how to control it because this jealousy and feeling of unachivement really pushes me to act savagely. Iv also come to realise that i put really high standards for myself, thinking that i am capable of such standards just because other people are 😔

    • @pauligrossinoz
      @pauligrossinoz 2 года назад +3

      The trick is to accept that you _will_ make mistakes and are not perfect. That's just part of being human!
      An inflated ego is triggered whenever we see, or are forced to see, something we did wrong. The inflated ego recoils, and tries to make excuses to avoid the negative feeling that our self-image is flawed in any way, leading to narcissistic behaviour.
      But if you accept that mistakes are truly inevitable, _because you are only human,_ and integrate that acceptance into your self-image, then your ego won't recoil from the realisation that your self-image and reality don't match.
      Then it becomes easier to say you're sorry to those you hurt, because you know that making mistakes is just part of being you, and it's now also easier to focus to improving yourself.
      Think of yourself as a work-in-progress, and when the real world exposes yet another of your inevitable flaws, fix the damage (say you are sorry), but also feel grateful for yet another chance at self improvement. Now you know what you have to work on to be a better person tomorrow!
      Of course you will never be perfect, but you now accept this, and you are always trying to travel in the direction of self-improvement.
      Does that help?
      In any case, please have a wonderful day! 😊 👍

    I've been self afflicting myself as I can't determine whether I have a bloated ego or not, but I believe I might now. I notice that I love seeing other people succeed and accomplish stuff, and I hate compliments. As a Kid i was declared Gifted and always did good in all my classes up to middle school. But I hated attention and never wanted to be a "Nerd." So in High School I purposely didn't try and acted dumb amongst peers, and slowly started creating a "i don't need school to succeed" mindset. But where I can't determine whether I have a bloated ego is when someone says i can't accomplish or achieve something, because that just triggers something in me to prove them wrong and it gives me more motivation to achieve a certain task.
    For example, after acting dumb and constantly sleeping in math class, a friend started to put herself on top of a pedestal while slowly throwing jabs at me insinuating that I was lazy and dumb. So in my mind I would say "if only u knew," and thats when I started trying on my tests and constantly get A's. But I never showed her because I don't like making others feel bad, but it did bring me pride knowing I was smarter and still had it.
    I'm just saying all this because I'm interested in what you guys think.

    Years ago I was a HARDCORE egotist as described in this video...however now that I am aware of my own egotistic tendencies I've learned to (sometimes) reign it in a bit.
    However now that empty vacuum where the egotism once resided has been replaced with cynicism. Rather than feeling like I'm on top of the world...I instead feel like the world is a pile of trash and I'm trapped in it. I WANT others to succeed, but when I constantly see them failing I blame either society for not letting success be an option, or if they failed because of something I told them not to do I scorn them for not heeding my warning (often it's a mistake I once made and wanted to help others avoid...but apparently I'm surrounded by people just as stubborn as me.)

    I had a depression for 2 years and i have found out one of the main problems. I had 0.nada ego. It was sow low that i has gone into negativity that i thought others are more worth then me so i never complained about things that i thought were wrong. But since i have increased my ego , i stood up to my france teacher that was treating me very bad and was always making me look bad in the class. And after i confronted her infront of our whole class she did what she could do best and screamed at me. Long story short she had to apologize and i think that really increased my ego a little bit to much. But it worked with my school notes and that i dont let myself push around anymore it gave me more self confidence. This overself confidence made me reach thinks i couldnt reach be4 like writing a+ because it made me study every day after school so i would be the best. Before this i always wrote d and e. An official iq test 15 years ago sayed that i have an iq that is much far above average sayed and i think that extra ego made me use everything i had i guess and it worked. Ill even meet our president of germany in february because of a project ill have finished in january :).
    Its kinda ironic but i think what depressed people need, is a big chunk of ego it is increasing self confidence. Not to much but still a big chunk. It makes you feel like you are worth A LOT more then u thought.

Now thinking in retrospect, it's really bad. I always feel the need to be right, even in personal relationships. I always want more in terms of business. I had a great year this past year, and now I want more at the expense of my family suffering by me not spending time with them or showing them that I value them. I definitely lack empathy. I focus on myself and what I want to do.
    I do have a high level of confidence and that is due in large part to my accomplishments and skills that I've acquired. But fml that is not an excuse to disrespect people, I have a lot of work to do.
    I need to do a lot of deep work to learn about myself deepes and be fucking normal instead of a trashbag.
