  • Cricut Maker 3 and Silhouette Cameo 4 Cutting Challenge. Putting the machines to the test by performing four different types of cuts/foil simultaneously on both machines. This video will compare the cutting speed and accuracy of cutting between the machines.
    Using matching materials, comparable cutting blades, machine cut settings, matching mats (unless indicated for a switch out), and similar sized images.
    Cuts:
    1. Oracal 651 Permanent Vinyl on a mat.
    2. Smart Vinyl Matless cut.
    3. White Mat Online Labels Sticker Paper (OL177WX) on a mat.
    4. WRMK Foil Quill Pen and Cricut Foil Transfer Kit on card stock paper.
    I used the Cricut App to run the Cricut Maker 3 for all four cuts and the Silhouette Go App for two of the four cut challenges.

    I really love the side-by-side comparison. And the awkward silence waiting for the Cricut to finish 😅.
    For a while I was contemplating of getting a Cricut, but couldn't justify the amount of wastage it creates with the vinyl. Recently I was fortunate to be gifted a Cameo 4 and was surprised how much faster it was during your testing. It is noisy, but somehow it just gives it a personality 😂. Thank you for comparing both fairly!

    I have an original Cricut Maker and just got the Silhouette Cameo 4. Im trying to justify my new purchase lol, but it does seem like bother excel in different areas. So it might actually be beneficial to have both machines.
    Software is like night and day. Cricut is like one of those “For Dummies” books. It’s so simple. Now that Silhouette software….omg. You actually have to know how to use a computer quite well. So many features and saving/upload options. So a bit overwhelming, but I’ll master it eventually. So that’s the only thing that makes my Cameo a bit of a nightmare to use. Most of my mistakes are from me making software errors.
    That’s for the great comparison video.
    Side note I think the Oracal vinyl is the actual problem. They have never cut well for me.

    the silhouettes and the cricut is like mac or PC
    if you want child like help, simple functionality then the cricut is for you
    if you want a more evolved experience, more complicated designs, a better interface with more tools then the silhouette is for you.
    I bought my wife a silhouette and ever since then, her old cricut 2 has under the bed collecting dust. When I asked her why did she prefer the silhouette she said to me
    (while the learning curve is higher) the design studio for the silhouette is vastly superior in all aspects. she also stated that the cricut is more forgiving and the silhouette doe require you to be more precise and intentional but that precision is often rewarded by something that look extremely professional even up close.

I’m a newer crafter and have the Cricuit Explore Air 2 and Silhouette Portrait and though I had some frustration starting up with the Portrait, I have come to love it because I like the choice of materials and I find their software easier (for me) to use. My question is about the project design part. Do you have a video showing the design studio /designing process? I’ve heard cameo is a big harder to navigate and cricut has more “friendly” or intuitive design. What do you think? Is there a big learning curve for either of these machines or will be more frustrating to figure out the basics? Thank you for your help!

      You can download the Silhouette program for free and test it out. I think you can do the same with Cricut Design Space, but I'm not sure. This will help you to test out the programs before buying the machines. You just wouldn't be able to actually print out your projects. I hope this helps. 🙂 FYI - I found your statement to be true for myself and my brain was not able to handle the Silhouette program at the time I was making my purchase (actually it probably still can't 😆).

    I was looking for this comparison as I got a Gift Card to Michael's. I have the Silhouette Cameo 4 and had issues with the hidden Wifi dongle on it that kept giving me, machine not available. I was ready to throw it out and buy a Cricut. I didn't at the time as the Cameo 4 finally connected and it cut my project on time. When I was given the Gift Card for Christmas it was my first thought, I wonder if the Cricut Maker 3 is better than the Silhouette. Happy I saw your comparison. I will take my voicetress Cameo over the quiet Cricut's lack of speed and inability to cut and foil properly. The sticker was way off. I will spend my money on another big item I may need. Then I got a brand new set of blades ( the cheap ones that come in packs of 2) and the cuts are now the best! I have made 200 keyrings as favours for a birthday party and all of them cut amazingly without issues at all. The vinyl came out perfectly and there wasn't much weeding! Do you have to use smart vinyl in cameo 4 to use Matt less?
    I know maker 3 you need to buy the special vinyl

    • @TaniaGail
      @TaniaGail  2 года назад

      With the Silhouette Cameo 4 you can cut without a matt on any vinyl material that has a backing. The Maker 3 it is best to use the Smart material for matless cutting.

    Great review. Cricut surprised me that its slower than the silhouette. The print and cut speed was disappointing as well as the smaller print and cut size, I believe its 6x9.

    • @TaniaGail
      @TaniaGail  3 года назад +4

      Honestly, I had the thought that the two machines would be close in speed. My biggest disappointment was with the inaccuracy of the sticker cut on the Cricut. I checked on Cricut's help page and found the following: "The maximum image size for Print Then Cut is 9.25" x 6.75" and the default material is 8.5" x 11". " Thank you for taking the time to comment :)

    17:53 I will disagree. That foil has too many blank, non-transferred lines for me to call that a success. Even the other one had some little bits missing.

    Thank you for this video! I am researching to make my first purchase. From reading through the comments, was the print & cut issue with Cricut a calibration issue?
    On the metallic embossing test, was the quality of the end result the same? It looked like some areas may have been missed, but it could have been a reflection.
    Now that you’ve had the Cricut for a bit are you using it a lot? Thanks again!

    • @TaniaGail
      @TaniaGail  Год назад

      Interesting. My Cricut never failed to read registration marks, it simply has limitations on what size it can print and most crucially for me, does not kiss cut. The Cameo is a better tool for die cuts and kiss cuts on the same project, yet it has many issues. You may want to consider the Portrait 3.

    You make it seem like its a race but you do not show that on the silhouette (maybe cricut too) there is a speed setting that can be adjusted for every cut as well as a pressure and depth settings! Without knowing the settings this is not really a comparison! I assume you used the default values. Sometimes even a small change in settings can make a huge difference in the final result as can the density of the materials! Thanks for your effort in trying and taking the time to make your video! My fav part is when it made you jump! How cute! :) I'll have to go check out your channel to see what you have done.

    • @TaniaGail

      Thank you for watching the video. One of the advantages of the Silhouette is the ability to dial in your cut settings. I do mention that I kept the cut settings that the software provided to avoid exactly what you describe. The only change in setting was the type of material.
