- Опубликовано: 15 авг 2023
- We're building a mini bike for the Bonneville salt flat land speed races! Today, we're testing our land speed mini bike at Washington Warren airport to test the stability and feel of our chassis, and also to see how fast we can go with our modified Tillotson 225cc performance engine. The runway is 5,000 feet long, so a high top speed here means we'll be ready to go even faster at Bonneville!
Come see us at the Wheels and Wings car show and air show September 23rd! The show is 9am-3pm with live music, helicopter rides, custom cars, and more. $15 chicken plates available at 11am. All proceeds benefit the UNC Burn Center.

120 here we come!
@CarsandCameras you better change rod bearings after each hard day and before the record run replace the rod at least, maybe relap valves and new rings too. You better at least listen on the rod bearings and replacing rod or that motor will definitely blow. Also get rod checked and exray before run. You could have a defective new rod with micro cracks in it. You spent alot of money on that block don't risk it on that 3 mile run
130 it'll be fine.
@@spankthemonkey3437 The current engine is the test engine, FYI. Unless you're talking about their $6k engine that they haven't used yet.
@@Narcle0 yea I just found out😆
@@Narcle0 but just in case they do a test run with 6k engine I'd replace bearings after them hard Dyno runs and the milky oil that came out I might would change the bearings before a test run and then again after the test run. It never hurts to do that the less ware on bearing the longer the engine can run
You guys have come a long way! From doing burnouts in dad's driveway to the Bonneville salt flats. Pretty cool. 😎
I was thinking about that while watching this. But my mind always goes back to the 670 wheelies.
Are you serious? I think you were being sarcastic…
@@fuzzypotato6862 - Totally serious. These guys are crushing it! Don't be toxic.
I remember when they would do speed laps around the yard crazy how far they’ve come
As an airfield manager, i'm impressed that you guys managed to get clearance to do this on an active runway
No problem. NOTAM 23 CLOSED and prevent crossing traffic with Notams as well. Monitor local traffic on your Unicom and have several crossing guards and FAA will be happy.
And, for what?... an hour?
@@danf4616 There was only 1 flight scheduled that day, and you saw it in the video
When I grew up out in the middle of nowhere the local airport was fun as hell at night running down the strip with all our lights off
@@trahar6257 Growing up in the winter we'd ride our sleds to a nearby private field strip a pilot had on his property to really top them out. But the mine that'll never go through, bought the land and put a building in the middle of it.
It's the south. lol
They let hobbyists bring their RC planes and cars also.
Seeing Charles all tucked in chasing on that tiny bike was definitely the funniest part 😂
that thing is insanely impressive. 84 with a full size trail bike with dirt tires.
@@CarsandCamerasGuys at Donut were trying to hit 100 with a minibike i feel the hog could do it!
@CarsandCameras what you think of the BigO' races.. I don't know if you stayed and watched the actual Big O race but it's absolutely 💯% sight to see. Briggs and Stratton 5hp style blocks putting out 30-40+ horsepower. But those OHV unlimited races are awesome as well.. glad to see you in my backyard and Goodluck in Bonneville. GODBLESS AND GODSPEED
@@wanderer7779 i never even thought of that! yea the donut guys have some deep wallets and only went about the same speed as charles went. That definitely puts it in context and makes it even more impressive
@@colestowing8695 Yup and they had like 8m subs disappointed .And they even cheated with a bigger motor and didn't hit 100 😂
Let's talk about how amazing it was that Charles got 80+ on his Mini! 👍👍
He matched Donut Media's best effort on a trail bike!!!
I think Charles talked about it enough already
@@demitrisolvinski Let's see your 80mph trail rideable mini bike
@@demitrisolvinskiwho cares, I'd watch another episode about it for sure. If you don't like it, you're in the wrong place.
@@goosenotmaverick1156 I'd watch another episode too, doesn't change my observations. It's ok to have options and share them, you know ;)
First round of posters sold out in less than 2 hours so we're printing another round! Thank you guys for the support!
And they'll all get their names on it!
It was the same with the second round too. I should have came on here earlier. Great video though, and glad to see it already over 90 mph!
Maybe round 3?
Waste of money, don’t do it… thank you!
@@fuzzypotato6862 Your parents said the same about you. 😂
Accidentally goes 88 mph *disappears*. Becomes 1950s greaser subculture icon.
Props to Charles 80+ 👍👍🔥🔥❤️❤️
Best of luck at Bonneville, guys ! Be smart, be safe, have fun, and set some records !!
you may want to make holes/vents in the tail section to prevent parachute effect
Not sure but, isn't that the whole idea of the pointed tail?
@@tiger7777 I think the issue will be the scoop on top; I don't think it needs any holes, just cover over the scoop, as that may cause a small amount of lift (I mean, should check in a wind tunnel, but who's got money for that?)
If they have all the panels on it shouldn't need them.
@@YourScaryMother there isn't a scoop when they put the pad on it.
They have a pad for Ike’s feet that will be in front of that area
Should make a cut out so your feet go down so your shin is flat on seat and it would probably be more comfy and help hold you in so you can push your feet against the back to help u stay planted in seat or what ever you call the seat lol
Rules won't allow that is my understanding.
^^^^ This.... that Superman style shit is ridiculous.... not safe..... hinders control.... makes the bike too long.... not really that areo....induces stability issues. and has just added unneeded weight.... especially considering they could have been inside the skin if they designed it just a little better.
This reminds me of the movie Worlds Fastest Indian. Anthony Hopkins was the star in this movie. If you haven’t seen it watch it. The bikes even sound the same. Amazing!
This has gotta be the coolest thing y'all have done to date! God speed boys we're all rooting for you!
Loved the ride along go-pro footage of the test runs. I hope you guys hit the record!
It feels like Charles is babying his minibike and not giving it all it has so you don’t ruin the video or sparing, John’s feelings
Think this has to be top 3 coolest CAC builds. I cant wait for Bonneville. It'll be fine😂
Looking forward to the Bonneville run and framing that poster for my office! Good luck, guys! The machine looks real good at speed....hoping and praying for the best for y'all!
That is absolutely insane!! Keep em comin!
Charles with the 84 on that thing !! Outstanding.
Blessings to the Gods of speed! Burt Monro would have appreciated this.
Keep up the great work guys. Love y’all.
Anxiously waiting for this to go to Bonneville. You guys should be really proud of yourselves, done very well with your build. You will come up with more fine tuning as time goes on. Who knows what speed you will take that bike to.
Burt Munroe is a sort of low key hero down here in New Zealand and the fact your bike looks similar to his 1920 Indian Scout land speed record bike brings joy to my soul. and makes me think you should totally paint your bike with the same paint job that Burts Indian has. that would be an awesome way to pay homage to where land speed racing came from.
Imagine them hitting 200 MpH with a Harbor Freight engine. (Like a 670cc)
@@Blurgamer17 bro that would be so awesome you have no idea. However I ain't ready to see any of the boys at C&C return to particles from a 200mph crash
my family and i drove out to the salt flats in 95ish and when i drove out in the van out on the flats my mother started yelling and screaming thinking we were gonna sink the new conversion van we all started laughing telling her mom this is where they do land speed records and it's all cool she got it and told me to hit lol. miss you mom.
i love your content and you guys make me very inspired. Sorry for my bad English , I am from USA, California
It may be more comfortable & stable, if your legs can be flat; If possible, notch the rear end of the seat downwards to allow your feet to tuck below the seat. GL, Best wishes
and maybe a little indent in the seat for the nutsack.....
I agree with the common sentiment: from goofing around with yard karts and clapped out garage sale mini bikes to a purpose built landspeed vehicle destined for Bonneville is a cool evolution to watch.
Great job, guys. This channel is one of my favorites and this feels like something I could do with friends.
As kid's yall played in the street and hollered Car and moved to the curb now ya'll holler airplane and move to the curb, impressive.
Anyone else notice the Super Hog matched Donut Media as a trail rideable pull start mini bike with a CVT? 😂
congrats on the 90+ pass! and holy crap those karts at the end are NUTS quick
Almost fell out of my chair with Ike’s falcon impersonation.😅😅😅
😂
Good run guys.I live about 24 miles from Warren Airfield.
I love what you all are doing, but I don't think you are going to be able to hit 130 mph. I guess I will watch and learn. Lol
Congratulations guys you've definitely come a long way since your first projects that you've done together. I'd really like to see you move forward with both of your rails and maybe add a little nitro for a quicker take off and run a full 1/4 mile just for shits and giggles. Good job and once again congratulations in your success as a team your work pays off !
That’s some serious performance from your bike. I don’t know about the speed of Charles and the ATV Tires and the speed he is running. Especially on asphalt. Thanks for the video.
I really am excited for y'all to get the bike on its final tests and to Bonneville. From what I see, you will be getting to your goal of 130 mph.
Keep on building even cooler things and having fun.
Saw your BMST entry when I was helping process them last weekend. Awesome! Bring a couple sizes leaner main jets than you used at the airstrip. Density altitude was running around 7000ft mid-day at Speedweek. Really easy to bog out on the salt when it gets warm.
Sweet, thanks for the heads up!
See you on the salt@@CarsandCameras
@@CarsandCameras If you create a duct going to an air-box AND the carb-vent-lines / fuel-tank-vent-line also goes to the air-box, then the air-fuel ratio will stay consistent as air-speed increases, with the added benefit of a "slight" amount of forced induction......one tip is the forward facing inlets size is relative to the speed you think you will attain & air demanded by the engine (a good starting place is about 2X the carbs venturi / throat size for 100-150mph).
@@ericschumacher5189good thought. "boost referenced ram air"
Ok, that's pretty impressive. But Charles, come on man! That mini bike is just insane! Charles has absolutely elevated this channel to a whole new level.
The Super Hog is a monster
Yea imagine if it was straight chained it’d be hitting 95
Charles been a perfect add 4 you guy's
Congratulations Gents! Amazing
That is crazy fast for a lawnmower engine!😳😂
an ALL CAST lawnmower engine at that!
You guys are so cool, i remember when i was 4 (8 years ago) when ever id have the chance to watch you i would. You inspired my love for go karts and much more and now i have my own go kart with a honda GX200 thanks to you guys so much!!
Heck yeah man!
Greetings from across the pond. Fantastic build and fantastic video. Wishing you all the best for your Bonneville run, it is on my bucket list to come out for Speed Week some time.....
I'm way to excited for this.
That's not a Falcon. It's a frecking Raven. The Bird of Odin
Depending on color choice, you may have found a name for it.
Hugin and Munin were his ravens names one stood for memory the other for thought
It may be the bird of Odin but it looks like a hog trough with wheels on each end AIN'T IT JUST AIN'T IT ****,😎 lol.
I am from Raven 😎 nope indeed... I love it though...
@bolsen1981 that's what I was thinking it would look so sweet painted up like a raven
You should consider sealing the air filter into an actual scoop, i'd think with the speed you're going and the small engine size iyou may get some legitimate ram air flow, might not be worth the drag penalty but probably worth testing given what you're trying to do. Also probably are going to want to duct some air over the cooling fins of that engine maybe throw a NACA duct inlet on the side or something but you'll want to carefully control any air coming into the body and deliberately duct it in and out
WHAT A RIPPER! INCREDIBLE!
have fun, stay safe, and kick posterior at Bonneville!
I would highly recommend finding a way to aim the air filter in a forward position so it has assisted forced air induction! And probably recommend doing some forced air around the engine just to keep temps down a bit. Just an idea.
I was going to say put it inside... it's like a big still air box, that will allow the air to stream in a nice, laminar flow without swirl.
I guess they'll try everything!
That land speed kart up there on the shelf looks to be a nice partner for this bike
Living your BEST life! I'm jealous.
congrats guys, cant wait to see the salt flat vid
Well, if nothing else, it'll be the fastest chaise longue at Bonneville.
those straight cut holes in the panel around the engine are going to create some really bad air...
maybe some tape to cover it would help secure the filter as well as solve that issue
@topkek7003 they could slap a piece of the aluminum foil tape right after they crank it up and it would help. Along with a small ram air duct for the air filter, and a cut out for their feet to smooth the air up at the back, which is EVERY bit as important as the front.
@@jeffreyroth7517 a ram intake im not so sure about because with the increase in air volume, there comes a need to increase fueling at high speeds.
@topkek7003 that's the whole idea, size it right for their desired top speed and they've got a "almost free" supercharger. We did this with the cowl boxes on cup cars back in the day (2005) we were making between 5.5 to 6 psi of boost with just cowl pressure.
heck yea!
Make a duct for the air cleaner to force that 85mph air into the engine instead of crating a vacuum behind the air cleaner that would prevent some of that air going into the air intake.
Great stability with those large wheels for landspeed. Even heavier wheels, will make it want to go straight even more. I'm sure you'll be moving to better wheels and tires eventually. You need robust wheels, and tires to go north of 100
I would like to see a 150 MPH pass....Out of the hog trough.... with wheels.... She's a beaut. 84 Awesome 😎.....
84 mph is insane for a full size big tire mini bike with a cvt. And it's pull start!
For you newbies you guys and ladies hold on to your seats because there is nothing but awesomeness this channel these three knuckleheads priceless😊❤❤
You guys have come such a long way I love your channel and everything you guys do I hope you guys have fun for a long time!
Hey when you guys come to Utah are you cool with people coming to see you run the bike at Bonneville salt flats?
just curious, how do you define 'mini bike' because its bloody massive :D
loving the build though
first thing i said, minibike, where? lol
It's wayyyyy too long, I never seen anything like it, makes no sense.
The engine
@@3a.m.284 i'd agree if it was still a 212 or something, but its 390cc which i know in the US is considered small, but the rest of the world those are really popular mid sized bikes (its the A2 class which you have to ride before getting a big bike, the likes of KTM getting 44bhp on standard fuel). its got full size wheels on it as well so struggling to see the mini... taking nothing away though, I love the build regardless, they can make up their own rules for whatever class
"Mini bike" is more of a style than a specific engine or size class. Simple frame with minimal or no suspension, a single-cylinder engine derived from lawn and industrial equipment, either CVT or a single-speed transmission, and generally not intended for street use. If we equate a motorcycle to a car, a minibike is closer to a go-kart.
This land speed bike they've built strays a bit from what we'd consider a normal mini bike, but the same can be said of *any* hardcore land speed build... Ever watched The Worlds Fastest Indian? That was hardly a "normal" indian motorcycle either. But this "land speed minibike" is still using most of the hallmarks of a minibike: Simple frame, simple transmission, single cylinder-engine of the correct style, and definitely not street rideable.
Damn, John is rocking that mid 80s afro.😂 Love the videos guys keep up the fun work!
Im excited for you guys
That's fast. Would it be a good idea to test at a faster speed to see if the drag is still good
Luckily aero loads scale perfectly with math. This baby is going to fly
@@WyFoster 🚀
Of course it's going to be uncomfortable AF, you guys shaped it like a damn Park Bench. 🤣🤣
I said something about this when you were building the frame that it needed to be swooped down for a more Aerodynamic and Comfortable ride.
The frame should've been shaped more like a sideways letter S similar to a _Tilde symbol_ [ ~ ].
exactly .... with a center back bone vice a box... if they needed panels it could have spur off of that and put them inside the skin vice riding atop the park bench.
that Superman style shit is ridiculous.... not safe..... hinders control.... makes the bike too long.... not really that areo....induces stability issues. and has just added unneeded weight.... especially considering they could have been inside the skin if they designed it just a little better.
That was encouraging. Im excited to see what it does on the salt with your bilet motor. Keep on guys. I believe you'll break a record.
You should make little cut out in that rear read seas for your feet to sink in to clean up the air going over the rear of the bike and it will give you something to push and pull against
Awesome build. But also gotta acknowledge that Charles bike did 84mph & pulled hard on it too
