Not to mention, for once in a lifetime, the costumes (which are at times unrealistic but that's ok cause we can never truly achieve total historical accuracy) WERE ACTUALLY USED MORE THAN ONCE! When I saw Anne use the same like three dresses over and over again, I smiled, cause that's what they do, unlike bridgerton where they never wore the same costume twice!
even diana uses the same dresses, she uses the one dress for fancy occasions and she has several school dresses she wears multiple times, marilla is just constantly a brown blob
The attention to detail and realism of this show is astounding and pleasing. Everything about it so perfect. I mean it, Anne with an E is one of the most perfect shows ive seen.
@@tjtj45 that’s kind of marillas personality. She expressed how she doesn’t like fancy things and other characters also imply that her dresses are unflattering
Has anyone else realised how in season 3 when Anne wrote the "What is fair" article, no one in the class really listened or gave a proper thought to what the artickle meant before Gilbert talked about it. Anne wrote about women's rights but people only listened when the things were told by a man. That proves the point. Women were not (and still fully aren't) respected, heard or taken seriously. When a woman says something, it is ignored. When a man says the same thing, everybody listens. I hope our society nowadays has become better on this matter than what is was back then.
Reminds me how my mother would often forget that I've said something to her and act like it's great advice or new information when she heard the same thing from my brother or the tv.
Agreed! Everyone was so focused on the fact she wrote the article they didn’t think about the actual contents of the article, which contained some very valid points and arguments.
that's what i thought too like i paused the episode to read what she wrote and all she wrote was equality for women but the people there acts like what she wrote was describing what happened to that other girl. i actually love what she wrote there
I mean in the books she says the same thing and then 4 people propose to her and she says no to all of them (including Gilbert, who then proposed a second time before she accepted).
I don’t care what anyone says. Anne with an E is by far one of the best shows Netflix has ever made. That fact that it was so underrated back then is beyond me. #renewannewithane
Season one was really good and true to the books, season 2 wasn't good, changed too many things from the original source materials, made Anne seem entitled and many things was not even realistic or historically accurate. and season 3 was rushed like they know they are being canceled. The reason for the cancelation was script and going away from the original source. The cast were amazing and the original book was relatable, whoever botch the show did everyone injustice.
What!!!riverdale has six season wtf..why!?so many things happen in the book and they have just gotten to the college part.. No no riverdale that trash has 6 seasons 🤮
❤😂 omg yes I heard the song in my head reading this. And for some reason imagined the scene where he is on the train smelling a flower😂 imagine a reaction similar to that happening directly after being hit.
Sad fact I just learned after watching this video I checked when season 4 is coming out i just found out that season 4 is officially cancelled because it didn't have enough studio audience... 😭
this might be in the range of conspiracy theories but i wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason AWAE was cancelled is that they started tackling canada's genocide and colonization of its native population in the 3rd season. there is probably another, more obvious reason but especially in light of recent news regarding unmarked mass graves of native children, it feels like canada just didn't want to taint its 'pure' image....which is a shame like no other imo

@@Evija3000 Yeah. And also considering the fact that it was only told when they were about to marry and the teacher was unmarried, she might have thought that it wasn't her place to explain.
Something I really like about this show is how the cast LOOKS THE AGE THEY’RE SUPPOSED TO BE. It’s especially important because of that little side plot with Prissy dating their teacher because when the teacher and student aren’t played by people around the same age, it really makes you realize how creepy it is, and they’re still incredible actors
They not only look, THEY ARE THE AGE THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE. Almost all of the young cast in Anne with an E is the exact same age as their character. Some of them are 1-2 years older/younger max. It's one of the very few Netflix shows to do this. Most teen shows from Netflix have 18 year olds playing fifteen year olds, so by the time the show comes to an end they're well over 20 playing a teen still. Anne with an E ended with Anne 16 and her actress Amybeth 17.
I literally took the cancelation of this show so PERSONAL, like HOW DO YOU DARE TO CANCEL ANNE WITH AN E?!!!! I need to know what happens to Ka'kwet and everyone from Avonlea and Anne and Gilbert. That's just not fair. Also for real, this show talks more important issues than 90% of currents shows.
Micaela Clifford hey so I’m from pei and the Avonlea is still a huge tourist attraction and the actual homes the use to exist are still there to go in :)
There seriously canceling Anne with an e and continuing Riverdale I SWEAR IF THEY DONT FIRE the person behind it. As Anne with an e is doing good for teens. Not 50-year-olds the f.

As someone who isn't within the targeted age range for this show (child-teen), I absolutely loved Anne with an E. I think it tells a beautiful story about love, loss, and loneliness (yes, the three L's). It's well-written in my opinion, the budget of the show itself is phenomenal, and it's the perfect mix of a historical drama and teen romance. They seem to handle themes on feminism and LGBTQ+ very well without it being cringey or overstated.
I am in the same boat here. I would normally never click on any videos with a young girl wearing flowers but somehow I did and could not stop watching. This is the ONLY movie in my entire life which actually made me shed tears not just once but - multiple times! After having watched series like Game of Throne, Vikings and Squid Game, watching Anne with and E truly felt like a much needed detox, soul cleansing experience. I am very disappointed that they have cancelled the series but something in my mind tells me that it will be back one-day . The original books of Lucy M M of Anne's life is written on 8 different books with her reaching into her 50s. And, the actress Amybeth whom in my opinion is born to play Anne is still very young. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we will see her again as Anne not too far in the future.
This show is made to be in 1895 or something, and still talking about important topics like racism, feminism, child abuse, lgbt, bullying, rights to be heard and soo much more. AND THEY'RE CANCELING IT BUT KEEPING STUFF LIKE RIVERDALE WHO MAKE LITERALLY NO SENSE. LIKE WTF
A lot of people didn’t like “Anne with an E” because they kept comparing it the Megan Fellows(Fallows) “Anne of Green Gables” which was good I admit , but “Anne with an E” gave a more realistic look at growing up as an orphan in the 19th century and yes was a bit darker, but it was still really good and I wish they hadn’t cancelled after series 3.
How was Anne with an E more realistic to living in the 19th century? The "Anne of Green Gables" movies are based more closely to the books which were written by L. M. Montgomery *in* the 19th century. There were so many drastic and crazy events that happened in Anne's life in Anne with an E, that probably would not have happened to/around a 13 year old at the time.
@@helenachester5992 Trauma existed back then. It just wasn't an appropriate topic to neither talk nor write about. So Anne's trauma responses are far more realistic than her character in previous adaptations.
I used to think it's a kids show bc I never cared for Anne of green gables as a kid. Boyyyyyy was I wrong. I started it because i was bored and i fell in love. It's so beautifully shot, anne is very bright and it has a lot of beautiful subtext. The writing never gets worse, every episode has it's own interesting storyline and the actors are extraordinary. I love this show so much, I'm very sad it doesnt get a 4th season...
And there are so many important topics that are soooo well treated. And it pictures real romance. so much love for this show, forever grateful for the crew that made it happen
I'm so angry for a number of reasons. The first one is that netflix canceled the show. This happens when ka'kwet is stuck in the native "school" still, Anne just found out something about her family, they are all heading to college, the show hinting at ms. Stacy and Sebastian, Diana being smart and gave Gilbert a stern talk and Gilbert and Anne reveal that they love each other.... like their relationship began and ended in a meer 5 minutes basically. We don't know if Gilbert will marry or become a doctor or if Anne becomes a teacher or if the town changes or if the native "school" get closed. Like ahhhhhhh
From what the producers have said, that was always the ending they had for Ka'Kwet and her story. As tragic as it was, I do think they made the right choice not to make the audience comfortable with a white savior type resolution. The fact that she knows her family is still there for her and still love her is a lot more than many Indigenous children ever got. And I'm glad the actress was cast in ATLA, despite the horrible direction she's been given as Katara there, but at least Kiawentiio is getting a huge bag for that gig, it's what she deserves
I haven't seen this version but if you want to know what happened to the characters you can read the books or watch the Anne of Green Gables series of movies....
Anne with an E is like the most wholesome series ever existed! It's so magical, puts a spell on anyone who starts watching it. It's kind but not cheesy, funny but not overdone. It's a tv show like no other. It helped me to see things differently. I can't believe they cancelled it. Watch it, love it and fight for it to get it renewed! :) #renewannewithane
My thoughts exactly... simple is probably what ppl said about Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone... and look how that turned out later on. As they grow up things become more complicated... less simple.
Agreed. While the storylines are more simple than complex, the way the writers were able to incorporate so many important topics, even in just S3 alone, and the way they handled them was truly remarkable.
@@vm5492 nah, the last ep is rushed. But that's because CBC and Netflix decided to be assholes and cancel the show before fans could even savour the "last" season. They never even told the cast.
I think by "simple" he meant without all the usual gimmicky stuff like superheroes, magic, and rich hypersexual teenagers. He's saying it doesn't need all that hoopla to be interesting and that's why it's a breath of fresh air. I think...lol

It’s common for a kid to frantically attach to the next possible safe adult after they’ve been through trauma or displacement. They also usually get a sense that because they are children no one wants to hear what they have to say, which is why having supportive and trustworthy men to lean on can change the world for a little girl. I love that they really showcase that with Matthew’s character.
Hello, how are you? I hope you are safe and well. I am sorry for your loss. I am very sorry for anything that seems bad that may have happened in your life. Everything will get better. Know that you are amazing and have rights as a human. I want you to know that you are incredible and are capable of wonders. What matters is your inside, not your exterior. Love yourself and cherish yourself. Words cannot explain how astonishing you are. You deserve care, love, and happiness, don't let anything make you feel otherwise. You may or you may not think that you are a failure but you are not, we are humans and we are bound to make mistakes so failures will come but that will give you the prize of what you have learned. Even if it may be a very small prize, it is very significant and important because you are amazing and deserving to learn and grow just as everyone else is. Please have appropriate action for anything that you know is wrong. Try and find professional or trusted help. Anything that seems bad or wrong in your life right now will get better. Please don't do what is wrong, fighting back and harming others will not solve the problem. Please understand that and do the good thing. It will one day come back to you. The people in the world are so much more than what we know about them, not everyone opens up about the beautiful things and acts they have witnessed, not all those amazing doings are acknowledged. There is more to people than it seems. Please understand that and know that. If you feel like no one cares about you, know that I care about you. Keep your head up high and never give up. Together, we can be a better community. You are right, mental health is very important and should be treated with care. Stay safe, healthy, happy, kind, understanding, positive and strong. Have a great day.
I'm so sorry for your loss. It might be a comfort for you to know that they actually based anne in the show as having ADHD. Due to her having traits in the original books + the author was very likely neurodivergent herself. So many of us neurodivergent people relate to anne
Some fboy got in her space and then she got in trouble for snapping at him. And the she was humilated in front of the class, then she said fuck it. And dashed.
The saddest thing about them cancelling the show is that the whole series I’ve been waiting for them to fall in love, and as soon as they finally did officially, the series ends. Like not even 2 episodes of their relationship update 😪
I started watching Anne with an E when it just came out because my mom loved the book (s? I'm not sure). It was so good but we at first stopped at the second season because it got kind of weird and my mom was upset it had drifted from the book. I started to watch it again and after a long time finally finished the series. Through the second time watching it while older, it was incredibly annoying watching Anne and Gilbert's relationship just for them to finally..finally get together (ish?) at the last minute. I was filled with rage at this point especially because it was cancelled. The whole episode where Anne and Gilbert wrote letters to each other just for it to never be found, I know it was on purpose but that was just mean to the viewers.
if you’re watching this and thinking the show isn’t your cup of tea, I absolutely guarantee that once you reach episode 3 of the first season you’ll find yourself watching episode after episode. I am absolutely not a fan of these type of shows but I found myself getting addicted. almost every character is just so easy to love and I promise you, at one point or another anne’s ramblings get super endearing! it’s also quite important to many ppl that this show gets renewed due to the lack of resolve regarding the brutally honest indigenous storyline that was established in the third season.
As an Australian Anne with an E actually taught me about the native American history. It not something anyone's ever talked about and I was quite sad we never really got a solid ending to that storyline.
I am 63 and I loved this show. It is suitable for all ages especially for we who were orphans and stuck in a orphanage with little or no hope and daily beatings, sexual assaults , starvation, and no love. One dream of being adopted but it never coming true. Then when your 18 you get to join the military where you are treated better but still just a number.
Their story of family was so more realistic even for a fantasy that many children never have- Marilla is a harsh woman who finds it hard to open up to Anne and give her the nurturing she needs, Matthew is withdrawn and it takes him some time to fully find his voice as a father figure, Anne “acts up” in ways that a kid who’s been through trauma might and it takes her time to harness all the pent up energy and yearning for love and affection that’s been in her as an abused child so that she can learn to lean on people she trusts….the characters are flawed and wounded but grow with each other and forge their familial bonds through intention and trial and error.

About red head being a problem back them: Red hair is a genetic inheritance of Celtic people (and vikings to), and the christian kingdons used to call them witches. So redheads were bad treated for have blood relations with pagan people.
My mom born in the Bible-belt duing 1950s with redhair had the same problems. Red = witch. Luckily that stigma or at least the stigma around 'witches' is changing.
when will the world learn that accepting that someone just has a pretty/cute face doesn't mean that they're attracted to that person. coming to terms with thinking that someone is good looking doesn't always mean physical attraction. it's almost the same concept as thinking a baby is cute to then be classified as a pedophile. _yeeesh._
I also saw how Anne was considered by some to have Autism. And as an autistic person myself I can see that as well. What's even better is that she absolutely knows that she views the world differently, and she goes out of her way to befriend and connect with others that are different and very marginalized at the time, calling them her "kindred spirits". Like with Cole and Aunt Jo both being Gay and Bash's family or the Native Americans both being people of color. This show perfectly showed empathy and embraced the idea of loving yourself no matter who you are, and it displayed the importance of community and connectivity in so many amazing ways. I fucking love this show
It's not funded by Netflix it's a show that originally aired on the CBC which is a network funded by the Canadian government. They didn't like how they portrayed the residential schools last season so they cancelled it.
Just to add my opinion: I believe that the line you found silly at the beginning of the first episode is pretty important . When Anne complains about having red hair describing it as her “lifelong sorrow” she’s describing the society where she lives in. The story is set in the late 1800s, at the time having red hair was seen as symbol of bad luck, this belief was so deep-rooted that many people with red hair were killed by their own families. Take as an example “Rosso Malpelo” by Giovanni Verga. So Anne says that phrase just because she, as everyone at the time, thought it was true.

Anne with an e became my favorite show very quickly. Diane is so sweet, Anne is so creative, Gilbert is so caring it was my go to feel good show. I finished it so quickly, I wish they kept making more episodes :(
My husband has had PTSD since he was Anne’s starting age in the show. He was hooked on this show since it started because it felt like the most realistic portrayal of a child trying to overcome trauma while surrounded by people who don’t understand it, and he saw so much of himself in this version of Anne. Especially those times when she would finally start to come out of her shell and feel comfortable, and then someone like Rachel Lynde would make fun of her appearance. Or the AMAZING version of the writing slate scene-being so desperate to follow all the rules correctly and trying to accommodate everyone’s social norms that you snap. My husband said “I get all of that. All of that”. I don’t think this show was supposed to be a perfect adaptation. It was supposed to be for kids who came from Anne’s position and were definitely more like her than they realized.
yep. the creators said that they wanted to make it as realistic as possible, straight down to the hemming on the costumes. And a lot of Anne of Green Gables fans don't know, but LM actually wanted her series, later on especially, to be a little more realistic with the times. She tried to get her later books in the AOGG series to be a little bit more detailed with trauma and even violence, but the publishers wouldn't accept it, so she'd have to water it down a little bit in order to get it published. So when I hear people say it's too depressing for them, unfortunately that's reality. And especially now we need to have higher standards for period pieces. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows and "aesthetic" back then, it was horrible for a lot of people, and it still is for very similar reasons, so shedding on light on that is very important. I'm so grateful for this show because of it.
@@chirpsythismorning Yep I agreed. I don't normally watch period piece drama like Little Women but the new Saorise Ronan Little Women had me interested and I was into Anne with an E because it was grounded and logically realistic. Orphans don't always have a happy life and sometimes they bounce around houses and family who treat kids like crap. People back then will whip children if they were out of line. It's amazing some people chose to ignore all these facts.
i see it too, same reason as your husband. i see my younger self in anne so much in so many ways, particularly the scenes where she dissociates. the flashback scenes too. i did the same things, with the storytelling and struggling to fit in because like anne that was my escapism and others didnt get it. ive ended up writing and acting in adulthood now, and all i want is to see anne grow and become a writer and do so many good things but oh nooo they just had to cancel it. yet rivershite over there is still thriving round six ugh
That last sentence is so on point and I think this is why the series was a beloved hit with its audience despite the creative liberties it took with the source material: it wasn't just a beat-for-beat retelling of a story that's been adapted for screen since forever, but a story the writers had to tell using this specific backdrop. Your husband is correct: the Avonlea people are all well meaning for the most part but they _don't_ understand. The best example of this is the "pet mouse" story where Anne is accused of deliberately ruining Prissy 's reputation. Marilla is livid about what Anne had said and Matthew is angry that a thirteen year old girl even knew enough about that subject to have opinions at all. Marilla is stunned into silence and realizes he's right. Another one--and easily the biggest departure from the books that any adaptation has ever made--was the fight between Anne and Diana, where for as much as she loves Diana, she cannot stand by to allow someone to be shitty to Jerry out of pure snobbery. And I genuinely like that Diana herself is not just a blank slate who only exists to support Anne w no agency, I truly think this might be the first adaptation to actually do that with her.
@@chirpsythismorningthe last two books that were published (books 4 and 6, for those not familiar) definitely have a shift in tone. But even as early as _Anne's House of Dreams,_ LMM was not pulling punches about the shit Leslie Moore had endured, to the point that even professional man hater (positive) Cordelia Bryant spit curses as her mother for selling her kid like furniture after the suicide of her father, which she also witnessed. And of course, there was Joyce, which I'm sure was a *huge* swing to pull off. And then there's _The Blythe's Are Quoted,_ in which ALLLLLLLL the stories were Like That™, included some rather pointed commentary about the futility of watching another generation of children fight in another war. People have speculated that the fact that she died the next day after turning in the manuscript for that book was not a coincidence, but her estate has never confirmed or denied that. But all the books were tinged with dark elements from the implied abuse Anne escaped in Book one (that she's later shown to still be affected by when one of her daughters asked quite innocently if she'd ever gone to bed hungry to which Anne's uncharacteristically larconic reply is "Often"), to Marilla's own orphaned third cousins that they adopt in book two, to Ruby Gillis' unfortunate demise in book three and Gilbert himself nearly dying. And I think it's doing a disservice to LMM herself if people ignored that.

They need to renew Anne with an E. We got left on like 50 billion cliffhangers. Gilbert and Anne’s love story, her Native American friend in the boarding school, Jerry and Dianna, her parents, her college, I mean, the list could go on
One of the best things about this show is how genuine and real it feels. The cast is phenomenal and the storyline is just perfect. There’s no unrealistic plot twist or rushed romance. It doesn’t romanticize unhealthy relationships or mental illness. Instead you get to see the characters learn, develop and grow. It tackles social issues and teaches important history. All that and it’s still fun and entertaining, it’s fantastic.
Emma I feel like the romance between Gilbert and Anne was a little rushed towards the end. Season one was perfect and Gilbert’s character just spun into a weird direction to me in season 3.
@@Tasy9824 I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted a slower burn but found out it was the last season and needed to make it happen. I agree that Gilbert got a little weird, but mostly in that it seemed like he was going to become a mad scientist.

It's literally thr opposite now cause of all the "woman's rights activists"

this might be in the range of conspiracy theories but i wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason AWAE was cancelled is that they started tackling canada's genocide and colonization of its native population in the 3rd season. there is probably another, more obvious reason but especially in light of recent news regarding unmarked mass graves of native children, it feels like canada just didn't want to taint its 'pure' image....which is a shame like no other imo

From what the producers have said, that was always the ending they had for Ka'Kwet and her story. The fact that she knows her family is still there for her and still love her is a lot more than many Indigenous children ever got.

It’s common for a kid to frantically attach to the next possible safe adult after they’ve been through trauma or displacement.

That's heartbreaking... I hope you made a lovely life for yourself

I fucking love this show
Netflix cancelling Anne with an E was a crime against humanity and everything that's good and sweet in the world

It's not funded by Netflix it's a show that originally aired on the CBC which is a network funded by the Canadian government. They didn't like how they portrayed the residential schools last season so they cancelled it.
but if it gets enough attention netflix could pick the show up
Just to add my opinion:
I believe that the line you found silly at the beginning of the first episode is pretty important .
I mean - I don't know if this is in that show but also originally she tried once to dye her hair brown and it ended up green :D And she had to go to school with that. Cut short

It's just Anne of green gables I used to watch the videos when I was a kid.
didnt really do a lot for me tbh
Tbh, this story is remade by the CBC every decade. Ann of Green Gables ain’t going anywhere.

@@Tasy9824 I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted a slower burn but found out it was the last season and needed to make it happen. I agree that Gilbert got a little weird, but mostly in that it seemed like he was going to become a mad scientist.

It's realistic because the book (Anne of Green Gables) the show based on was built around the author (Lucy Maud Montgomery's) life.

Rocky S you know not what you speak of . The creator and producer in the very beginning said that she intended this show to have five seasons. I have seen many interviews with this woman. She was very shocked as were the actors that the show was canceled.

Anne with an E was the first show I watched after I recovered from two brain surgeries and let me tell you it was refreshing and soothing. Definitely deserved a 4th season
