@@scottbauer656 I’m actually confused what do you mean lol. It’s not a maine lobster in the video, and I’m not wrong about what I said lol. I am quite literally a maine lobsterman
between paying your crew, fees for fishing licenses, fuel, bait, l don't imagine the profit margins are very high if you wanted to do it professionally. catching a couple to eat or sell would probably be an okay side hustle though
Trust me you don’t it sucks. Boats break all the time and repairs are incredibly expensive, inconvenient, boat yards are always packed so you wait ages as well. New buoys and traps are so expensive only nepo babies can afford them. Buying second hand sucks cause you have too repair every single trap and make sure it’s up too dmr standards. You have too mark your lines in purple in three different sections of each line. I can keep going on. Oh also there’s the fact that if you didn’t start out with a student liscense (gotta start under 18) you will be on a waiting list for about a decade.
I’m a deckhand on a lobster boat, it’s great to be a deckhand, and our province in Canada gives us the best EI so we have income for our off season. The captain though will depend on the catch being good and the price of lobster being good.
The main issue back then was if not eaten fresh, lobsters will taste like the worst thing you can ever imagine and at a time when there's no fridge, lobsters will be looked down by most as you will get literally food poisoned and die at the worst case scenario if ingested half a day old sunbathed dead lobster and probably die from a day old dead lobster that isn't frozen which the prison usually got, hence why prisoners would rather riot then eat a dead rotten lobster.
i hate this myth. fresh lobster has almost always been food for the wealthy. saying this is like saying "it's crazy that wagyu costs hundreds of dollars when they used to feed rotten beef to slaves!" ignorant as hell lmao
Try a soft shell main lobster, they taste much sweeter and better in my opinion compared to the typical hard shell, they have less meat yield but you end up with a better taste
I’d think the cost is a lot to do with the importing from Europe no? I mean are all their lobsters they sell blue? Or is it costly cuz blue lobsters are super rare cuz it’s a weird genetic difference but has no effect on flavour i would’ve thought
@chadgrov Idk, they taste the same for me. It's just a genetic thing. They're not protected as far as I know because it's just a one in a million or so who produce whatever makes them blue. They're priced that way for the rarity. People might want them for parties, or just because they like the rarity, and so the price goes up. That makes sense. Any normal person would just want the red lobster, but someone who has money to spend may want that extra special colour. There are other colours too. White is the rarest. 2 coloured lobsters exist. They're atre yellow ones. Orange ones, and all the other colours. 😌
@@xenostraYou’re thinking of the extremely rare Blue mutation that shows up the American Lobster. This is not that, this is the European Lobster which just happens to blue and is not endangered nor rare. The cost and relative rarity of it in the US comes from the fact you have to ship it across the Atlantic and keep it alive.
And I thought Maine lobster prices were high 😅
A blue main lobster would probaly go for way more lol. When ours get blue it’s normally very vibrant and kinda pretty.
@mr90milepipe98 are you high bud?
Probably the transportation costs.

And to think at one point in our history they fed lobster to the poor... And now here we are with a lobster that costs a Benjamin 😂😂😂
and prisoners!

No it’s definitely from importing. Either way it’s a valid reason for someone to stick with the cheaper option available to them.
It's rare. Blue lobsters are very rare 😊

Love them so much ❤️
Next you have to try st-lawrence river lobsters such as anticosti, gaspesia and madelaine island. Those are my favorites
I live in the UK. Where I get them sells them for £22 each lol
I don’t even enjoy eating any seafood that isn’t shrimp or fish but I love these and the oyster vids lol
Try Nova Scotia and South African lobster. Also try a Tasmanian crab
Crazy how expensive lobster is in some places
The late summer sunset with the cicadas looks awesome
Lobster from the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Nova Scotia the best lobster
Try a canner from pei or nova scotia.
shoulda paired it with kerrygold irish butter
Was it already dead when you cooked it?!?
Can you not see it moving...
@@Kometheus kiiiinda not necessarily I was wondering if maybe it just had a reflex twitch left in it. That’s why I asked.
Try Mud crabs please!
Try California Spiny Lobster, other species don't come anywhere close in my opinion
I went to Anchorage, had fressh of the boat lobster. That totally spoiled. everything I now compare to it is always second rate
Been in Maryland my whole life I've actually never had Lobster
That little bit of lobster meat isn’t worth a hundred dollars! Sorry!❤😂
Why im i hearing a very dramatic organ tune 🗿🗿
Isn’t there health risk with eating shellfish every day or something? I might be miss remembering tho
People won't eat bugs but will eat lobsters lol
Claws are the best parts
Paying $100 for 1 lobster makes you a sucker.

I'm not giving $100 for no lobster
Lobsters can be blue, partially blue, or just the normal mottled color.
Has nothing to do with flavor.
I guess I’ll never have European blue lobster. That’s ridiculous.
I won't pay more than 10$ for the best north Atlantic lobster, and I can get it all year.
have you noticed every time you bite down you look to your right?
I’ve seen New England lobster as low as $5.99/lb. You just need to find a Market Basket, and get will a steam it for you free of charge.
Those are soft shell prices. Usually a hit or miss in terms of actually meat quantity you get.
I want to retire early so I can dedicate my life to making videos like this
I absolutely love lobster, or basically any seafood for that matter. But I'm not paying $100 per lobster.
that lobster red af to be a blue one
🙄
Lobsters is bugs.
Do a sea food boil
Were they actually?
The answer is NO. NO lobster is worth $100.
Do you think the ridiculously exaggerated prices that get repeated over and over on these videos is an agenda regarding inflation?
Dead crustaceans shouldn’t count in a taste test. Just my opinion-- can’t beat fresh seafood
$100. for how many pounds?
It looks like 3 or so.
Wait where is the guy who gives them snacks amd throws them back in the ocean? I liked him better.
Thanks!
I don’t know why. I just don’t care for them. Guess I just got to keep trying till I find the right ones
idk why, but i like fried seafood better then not, am i weird????
The real question is, is it really from Europe?
yes
I can get you uk lobster for £50 shipped if I can help in any way

Can I have your eyes? I don’t see any fucking blue.
