  • I'm a 50yo total noob to RC Airplanes. Ordered CCS2, G2-3S-2200 batteries, NX8, Tmitter case, charger from ‪@TowerHobbies‬ . FedEx fast delivery. Put 5 hours on the Real Flight Simulator with the CCS2 and it is very realistic! Went to ‪@BoerneAreaModelSocietyBAMS‬ meeting and had 4 flights with an instructor. Felt good, the weather was good, set up the ‪@SpektrumRCvideos‬ NX8 with a bit of a struggle and out to the air field I went by my self. Set up the NX8 with the CCS+ with a modification help from Towers live chat, 2 to 3 hours of youtube videos setting up the NX8 and the rest is history. Again, total noob at RC planes, video is a little shaky at times and my RC vocabulary is off from the nerves I was dealing with trying to land by myself for the first time!! Great trainer, fun plane, easy to fly, easy to use. ‪@horizonhobby‬ #realflightsimulator is very accurate and a great tool. NX8 is a full semester college course but youtube is your friend. Once you set it up and get Familiar its a fantastic piece of kit!!

Congratulations on finding this great hobby that I myself have been loving since getting into it a couple years ago. I started on the same plane. It's a great plane to start with. BTW, it should be able to give you your battery voltages you have to go into telemetry and select 'auto config' then you can select if you want it to call out your voltages outloud and how often. I personally have mine set to call out my telemetry numbers every minute so I don't have to look down at the screen. Once you become bored of the carbon cub, I strongly recommend the Turbo Timber Evolution. It's a great plane and I've been flying it now as often as I can for several months now. The landing gear is the only weak spot in the design but there's a company that makes a great modification for it. It's called FalconRC. If you get the turbo timber evolution, definitely get the landing gear upgrade. Happy flying!

Congratulations on your first flight! You made it look easy.
I just got the Carbon Z Cub SS, and the NX8 radio.
I've flown mine twice now, the first flight was in SAFE mode, and all it wanted to do is climb, thought I'd never get it back.
Second flight a day later i adjusted the CG, turned off SAFE mode and only used AS3X flight mode. I felt comfortable doing this because I used to fly 35 years ago without modern technology. Again took off, and all this thing wanted to do is climb, again I got lucky and was able to force it back down in one piece.
Now I'm just upset with the radio and plane, and myself for spending $1200 for this foam airplane and karaoke radio.
Best of luck with all of flights, and thanks for sharing your experience.

    Congratulations to your first flights!
I started with the Carbon Cub aswell. Was so nervous first time I made a bunch of misstakes and my second time I landed the plane in a tree. But I learned that with a tube of foamglue and spare parts it will be with you for a long time and teach you alot on the way.

Good Job and welcome to the hobby! You can set flight timers on your radio. Modern radios are GREAT! I started flying in 1982! No stabilization, full stick and rudder flying (I love AS3X and SAFE btw). Have fun and keep flying!

FYI for your SAFETY !!! * Never* plug in the battery and arm the plane before you turn on the radio..Stand behind the prop.!(1)Turn on the .Radio first ! ***make sure the *throttle is all the way down and "throttle cut is on" *..(2).then install the battery' set the plane level and wait for the dance of the control sufaces. ***After flying, *turn the throttle cut on and always 'unplug the battery first* and then turn off the transmitter ! If for some weird reason the electronics were to fail and you plug the battery in first (with no signal from the transmitter) and it went to full throttle, it could be very dangerous and a very bad day !!! The same is true if you were to turn the Transmitter off first before unplugging the battery; you have no signal for throttle control; and always make sure the throttle cut is on !!! If you plug in the battery without radio signal, strange things can happen and is dangerous. It;s in the manual, also. Just a thought so you won't get hurt...All the best, have a great time flying and great New Year...

While your comments are appreciated they are 100% false. Many aircraft I have purchased over the last 15 years say to plug in the battery first and then power on the remote. Why is this the case? Because we no longer use crystals and use we commonly use 2.4-5ghz signals.
It’s not like someone has crystal 42.7mhz already running and you plug the battery in first and start receiving unwanted data.
Furthermore every single plane you start a binding process with also has a battery plugged in without a radio and has an equal chance of “issues”. Even when you turn on your radio first to bind the plane still needs a battery installed without radio communications.

Burning a full pack for the first time without a crash was a feeling that’s been hard to replace since. WTG Pilot! I have that model and love it.

The NX8 radio you have is a really good radio. It can tell you the voltages out loud while you're flying!
That radio will do a lot. I've got the same radio and an IX14. I love the NX8

@@shaynejenkins446 I don't know too many new guys spending the money for an NX8/IX14. I don't know a better radio, especially when you use the voice call out for battery voltages, Vario, gps and speed call outs right from the radio!
When you gain experience Shayne, try an iX!

(New subscriber) Looks like you referenced that you have the RTF version of the Carbon Cub S2 (with the DXS transmitter), AND the NX8 transmitter as well. I'm also new to RC flying. I also have the RTF CC S2 (with the DXS), and just picked up the NX8 transmitter. (Haven't flown yet. Still working with the Real Flight simulator.) The RTF CC S2 manual doesn't have any transmitter settings for any other radios (i.e. like the NX8). But the manual for the BNF version of the CC S2 does have them. Will those settings work on the RTF version of the CC S2 (including SAFE/AS3X settings)? Your video description mentions you got Tower live chat to help you set up the NX8. (for the BNF CC S2?) Can you do a video reviewing your NX8 setup for the BNF version CC S2? (There are no YT videos of doing it this way.)

Use high rates when in beginner mode, it will turn better. Thats the plane i started on. You did better than me. I was using low rates didnt work at all.

👍 OK and now you can begin learn to fly a plane , lose as fast as posible the LAS and learn to land. also the SAFE , lose it , use it only to escape when you lost orietation.
