- lol just a random video I threw together, since Secretariat was pretty beastly at racing (haha). however, it does have rare pics of him in the winner's circle of all his wins (including the champagne stakes before being disqualified) hope you enjoy!

What an Absolutely Beautiful Horse !!!!!
We had a black and white 19" tv in the summer of 73 , the year I graduated from HS . I hardly ever watched tv but that Saturday I watched that race. I didn't understand horse racing or really what happened till much later in life. Didn't seem to be the awe-inspiring event that it has become. Every year that goes by solidifies the legend and Secretariat's greatness. And I saw it Lol. Beautiful animal!

Lived near to Saratoga. Saw many a horse. NOTHING like BIG RED! I witnessed the Belmont in 73! Haven't seen ANYTHING like that ever again. Athlete of the CENTURY!! A once in a lifetime race. 31 lengths and he was PULLING AWAY!!! Remarkable.

I have brought a horse for my daughter ex race horse just found out through breading he is great great grandson of secretariat.He only won 2 races in canberra but he's our bit of royalty love him so much.

I’m so glad you got a OTTB, I’ve got two and they have been great horses! Great with kids, they both have done 4-H and summer camps with kids they have been wonderful horses! Oh yeah both are related to Big Red through his father Bold Ruler. Enjoy your horse!

Not only did Secretariat win the Triple Crown and set track and world records in all three races, but Nolan Ryan won 20 games for the first time in his career (21), while setting a single season record for most strikeouts (383), throwing two no-hitters, 26 complete games, and 4 shutouts. On September 27, Ryan went 11 innings vs. Minnesota and posted 16 K's to top Sandy Koufax's single season strikeout record.

Because most of the 70's was a fashion disaster! Argh,. I did manage to live through it with minimal damage to my psyche, but it was touch and go. OMG! remember leisure suits? *shudder*

@MrItaliano1900 does either of your hero horses have record times at distance that they have held for 38 years and counting? Besides, this is a bad comparison - RIBOT was a sprint horse - he only ran 5 - 7 furlongs. Big difference between a horse who runs well in short races and one who races 1.5 miles and possesses the world record for 38 years. Ciao baby bubba!
No one really cares who the jockey is but I give them credit for risking their lives every time the get atop of a racehorse.

@MrItaliano1900 you know something, you are right, i misread some of the facts. So I apologize. But according to Euro-equine aficionados, RIBOT is ranked in top 3 euro racehorses; and at best is ranked 5th behind Secretariat, MOW, Sea Bird II and Citation. & there's a crazy argument that Omaha is ranked stronger & faster than RIBOT.
No doubt RIBOT's claim to significance here, he's just not the fastest on the planet & he retained no world records. MOW & Secretariat still have there's.

This mini-controversy..how sad certain people are so passionate about their favorite horses they attempt to slam the memory of other favorite horses. Ribot is a very impressive horse, but by the writer's own admission, the sport is apparently different in Europe.
It seems to me we are comparing apples to pine nuts. I doubt that he would claim Ribot is better equestrian. Saying the great Secretariat was a mediocre horse is just plain silly IMO
