I have done a dozen or so of these in my time and this video is true to life. Grate transmission easy to fix. Can hold up to 450 HP easy. If your knot dumb, mmm can run a clutch.
Hello, thanks for this video. I have a Saginaw 4 speed that whistle during acceleration and during load (uphill). Any idea what's wrong? The yoke have a play that's about 0,7mm (side to side/up down) out of the tailshaft. Best regards, from Sweden
Brent, sure hope I can an answer from you on one of those bearings. At 13:33 in the "How to fix a Saginaw transmission!", you pull the front bearing out like it wasn't even attached. This is where I'm having a problem. I pulled out the entire pilot shaft (where the splines are located). But there is a snap ring against the front bearing I can't seem to remove. The ring does not open wide enough to clear the bearing, because it bottoms out inside the groove. In your video at 13:33, you show the bearing with the snap ring still attached to it. How did you remove that bearing? If the bearing comes out without removing the snap ring... what's the purpose of the ring?
Oh, I must have skipped over removing that lock ring, yes there is a lock ring retaining the input shaft bearing to the input shaft, I use a set of lock ring pliers to get those off and the bearing should come off the input shaft with little effort. I hope thats the answer, if not comment back and let me know!
I'm looking for an installation kit for a saginaw 4 speed with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. If anyone knows their availability I would appreciate it very much. Thanks Daryl
Lots of performance suppliers have them, like Speedway, Summit, Jegs, etc. stock them. They share the same yoke between the Saginaw, Muncie, and Turbo 350-400’s I believe.

I’m unsure what exactly could be wrong, but if my transmissions have any noise, I typically service them👍🏻
Thank you I needed to help
Good Laugh great Knowledge

one question! I get revers and first gear but why is the switch on 3rd gear? I have the same transmission. or WHT is that switch for?
Honestly, I don’t even really know. I only use these transmissions in my race cars and have never needed to hook it up to anything🤷🏻♂️
it's weird, I hooked up a test light and it lights up on 3rd gear🤷♂️
ok I think I figured it out. it has something to do with vacuum advanced.
Does the saginaw hold up in your race car?
Pretty well, but its all we’re allowed to run.
I have that transmission and I need to find where to buy the slip yoke for it.
Can anyone helps me with that info?

So if you don't have a speedometer you can't get a speeding ticket eh?
That’s the hope🤞🏻
What size are bolts for the tailshaft mount
I THINK 7/16 coarse, don’t quote me on it
How much power can those 3 speeds take?
With stock internals I really wouldn’t go over 450, the Saginaw are not incredibly beefy
