    Alcohol and cigarettes addiction actually destroyed my life. I could remember several years ago after divorce with my wife which brought me into my disastrous journey on Alcohol and cigarettes. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

      Amen God bless people. Save your health save your mind. Life is better without heroin, cocaine, alcohol and cigarettes. And you have more money in your pocket. God bless everyone who has rejected the devils intentions to be addicted to alcohol and cigarettes etc which can cause so much damage to health.

I'm 56 and have suffered for years with addiction, anxiety and severe ptsd, I got my panic attacks under control myself years ago and they have come back with a vengeance, I'm constantly trying to take full breaths but can't get the full satisfying breath out, it's absolutely crippling me, i live in Australia. 100% agree I used to have Psychosis and paranoid thoughts like "people thinking about me talking about me etc. Very odd behavior after getting off Adderall from 7-16. Antidepressants at 18-29. 31 now. I took way to much, but took about 20g of Gold caps (Psilocybin containing mushroom) I analyzed my entire life. The emotions that came out helped me understand behavior etc more. Wont ever need to do it again because I'm happy and contempt forever, but I wish more people did this to alter their perception of reality. Would help with healing much trauma

    Same thing I've noticed, once you start drinking at home alone the slope to becoming an alcoholic gets slick. I worked at a bar for 5 years and I saw people lose their relationships, their friendships, their health, their drivers license, their jobs, their good looks, and their homes. The descent between having fun and becoming an addict happens quickly

    Over a year I went from drinking 10 shots over an evening after work to...drinking around the clock. My body physically couldn't handle it. 4 hours without liquor the HELLISH withdrawals would start. Then my brother died, and for a good 5 months I was drunk 24/7. Even mentally wanting to stop, I physically couldn't.
    I was going through 1.75l in 20 hours, or drinking 128 proof moonshine (750ml) over a 5 hour period.
    It wasn't fun anymore. All I did was laze around, sleep horribly. I was avoiding reality and my grief and problems.
    It took 3 stays at detox but I'm happy to say I've been sober for 130 days+ and have never felt better.
    To anyone reading this...it's worth it. You got this. You'll relapse most likely. Don't let it discourage you. My third relapse and feeling like I was going to die from withdrawals, the thousands of dollars I spent gone, and hating what I'd become was what finally broke the cycle. You got this. Don't give up. It's possible.

      Congratulations brother! Getting sober and staying sober in light of the loss of your brother takes serious introspection, willpower, and courage. Just remember the withdrawals and how awful you felt while experiencing them when the thought of drinking starts presenting again. I'm 46, an alcoholic, and have only just over a month sober...I've had long periods of sobriety only to relapse and start again. I know the self-imposed hell you went through. I've had 2 grandmal seizures from withdrawal, auditory and visual hullicinations, full body seizures while being awake and conscious, asphasia (for 3 days my ability to speak normally left), actually thought with that one I'd damaged the speech centers of my brain and would never speak normally again. Thankfully my speech came back. Anyway, I know the struggle. Keep it up brotha 👍

      Some ride the bus and get off at the right stops. Some stay on sometimes and it won't be easy finding your way home. But with effort or with help you can make it back. You just have to put the footwork in.

    It's amazing to me that one of the most hardcore addictive substances is so socially accepted. I'd see colleagues get fucked up at parties or tell about their wild weekends on Monday, but if you'd tell them you had a quiet weekend, doing mushrooms on a Saturday night with some mates, that would be frowned upon. People have this weird idea that there's a difference between alcohol and "drugs", even though many of the things they consider "drugs" don't compare to the disastrous effects of alcohol. To be honest, I think the world would be a much better place if people would just do some mushrooms every once in a while, instead of getting fucked up on alcohol every weekend.

    I've had full blown DT's, seizures, hallucinations and to rehab time to time from alcohol withdrawal. Mostly from binge drinking and then cutting back. Some folks here be drinking hard think they are an alcoholic but are not really. compared to guys like me that have experienced what being a true alcoholic is like, Its literally HELL on earth. If you find yourself not able to not drink for a few weeks, you need to cut down and give it a rest before it sneaks up on ya and you wont see it coming.
    Ive been completely sober for a few months now and never even have the idea to take a sip. Once you've crossed that line where you experience severe withdrawals, it opens a portal and there really is no turning back. So CUT BACK while you can. Every trials, hardships and pain in your life can make you really thirsty and it doesn't stop. you just have to deal with it and remind yourself of the hell you went through to straighten your life. Now I love waking up everyday and eat healthy breakfast and coffee, go to the gym and just feel glad im still here. Alive and kicking.

    I wish the fact that addiction is a spectrum was more normalized. Many still think it's black and white. You're a normal drinker or your an alcoholic. As someone who's sober now and in AA for over 8 years even many in the program have a hard time grasping this.

    • @Laura-fv1oe1
      @Laura-fv1oe1 2 года назад +2

      Totally. I'm "lucky" (in a sense?) that the fact that I'm an alcoholic is abundantly clear. By the time I got sober I had given up just about everything for alcohol. It took a withdrawal seizure at work and being admitted and detoxed for the spell to be broken. AA and the 12 Steps was a no-brainer for me, and I credit it with helping me stay sober and more importantly become a better person the past 3 years. However, I think the program's limited in helping many people. "Sober-curious" people who would benefit from giving up booze but haven't necessarily had a rock-bottom - AA would try to ram home the idea that they have to admit they're a total piece of shit which would be off-putting for people like that lol.

    • @mozerm
      @mozerm 2 года назад +1

      @@Laura-fv1oe1 Ya exactly. I never had the 'bottom' that some people have had. No DUI, no detox required, BUT I put alcohol ahead of everything in my life (wife, kids, job, safety, etc.) so clearly I am an alcoholic or at least have a significant substance use issue. I love AA for the most part. The only thing I don't like is the description of the 'real alcoholic' in the big book because every time I read it my disease tells me that's not me.

    My dad, smoked 20-30 Henri Winterman Half Corona cigars a day at his peak.
    Now these are the smaller cigars, not Cubans but not cigarillos either.
    He stopped smoking 25 years ago after my sister and I tickled him so much that he passed out from not being able to get the oxygen into him.
    For 10 years after quitting he used to wish he could have a cigar, but now he doesn’t like the smell.
    If that guy can quit, then everyone can quit.

    I can relate with the drinking while watching a show that has people drinking. I use to watch intervention and use because it felt like I was hanging out with “like-minded people” but would turn it off right before the actual intervention started. Damn, I’m close to tears hearing one of my top favorite comedians say that.
    Goddamn, I miss hearing Burr and Patrice O’Neal having a conversation.

    Alcoholism is indeed a spectrum. I'm Irish, like actually Irish, from Ireland not American "Irish". Binge drinking is off the charts here, always has been, I used to buy ten cans for a party in my 20s. I'm 5.5ft average weight. Never got anything but praise. It's heartbreaking.

      I moved to northern maine. Every parent is an alcoholic, and the kids are no different. Drunk driving is rampant here. I’m pretty sure one of the highest in the whole country. I’m a weed smoker personally, and that’s it’s own issue lmao, but I see these kids(my friends 17 year old brother and his friends died last year in a crash) dying in drunk driving crashes and the parents start “the why did this have to happen” bs meanwhile they’re hammered every day and driving around. They literally taught their kids how to be addicts and wonder why their lives are being taken. The hypocrisy is crazy. The alcohol tolerance up here is nuts. People here polish off half gallon bottles or 30 packs in a day. It’s honestly concerning lmao

    I’m 25 now, and it’s insane how my body rejects alcohol more as years go by. In 2019, at 22, I could drink two six packs of beer and be up for work at 8 AM with a slight hangover. I drink two six packs of beers right now and I won’t be up for a whole day and my stomach will be in a world of trouble for at least 3 days or so. I’m slowly but surely cutting back, which I know people heavily advise against, but I feel like it’s working for me. It recently dawned on me that I’ve been drinking for 10 years now, since I was 15, and that I won’t be able to keep this lifestyle forever.

    Chronic addiction is what I think I suffer from when Bill talks about McDonald’s. I can go weeks without drinking, even have it in the house under the sink or in the fridge, then when a friend comes over or there’s some kind of cookout (excuse) I find myself polishing everything off by the end of the night. Gambling also goes hand in hand when I’m trashed which is equally horrible financially.

    • @PriusTurbo

      I'm with ya on that. Can be food, exercise, vaping nicotine, alcohol, binging youtube etc. I hit it hard for a while and then realize I need to stop but I'll go back eventually. Good news is being addicted to exercise is mostly ok.
      I go through phases of tracking macros and then I'll make smashburgers and fries from scratch for like three nights in a row. I'll hit someone's vape then buy one and rip it non-stop until I drive to a gas station and throw it in the trash (I've gone outside and fished it out of my trash before). Watch youtube for four hours straight. I keep instagram deleted off my phone.
      And then we have alcohol. I'll look at it in the fridge occasionally and not drink for weeks. Then suddenly I'll hit some trigger and have a few beers, start feeling great, have a few more, then open the flood gates. Drink every beer I have, start doing shots between beers of whatever I can find, then go buy more beer. Next day hair of the dog, just a few, then I'm feeling pretty decent so let's keep it going! Clean out the rest of the fridge and go get some more. Next day same. Next thing I know I'm looking at 100+ beer cans in my recycling and I'm thoroughly poisoned and have to fight through at least two terrible nights of sleep and jacked up anxiety/depression partly from sleep deprivation. Gut microbiome destroyed. Can't remember what I was so happy about just last week. Have to claw my way back to functioning in reality while having to pretend I don't want to die.
      Alcohol is pretty cool! I used to like it when I thought it was good for you and I always have been able to drink more than almost anyone but it's like now that it's proven that any amount is bad I just use it to get super high off of it and it's all or nothing. I am one of those people that can keep drinking and keep feeling better and better. I also never get sick and won't pass out until it's near bedtime so I'll just rock through like 20 drinks no problem 😅. Is that an addiction? I've never thought so. I just like to take everything I do to the max and see what happens. Past few years though it feels like I'm not discovering anything new and I'm just going to get wet brain and trash my organs so I'm going to quit.
      All the people that are saying oh I have three drinks on Saturday every Saturday and I'm an alcoholic: Cool. Label yourself whatever you want. Stop doing it if you don't like it for some reason and if it's three on a weekend then it's not going to be life changing to just stop altogether. I promise you, however, you would be absolutely horrified if you spent a night with me and some acquaintances when we're getting after it hard. And then doing it again the next three days. That's alcoholism. I did quit drinking by the way. I wish good health to everyone.

    I feel like I might be going overboard with whisk(e)y. Back in 2019 it would be a couple of times a month, then the pandemic hit, I isolated in my country home, and it'd be Saturday-Sunday, sometimes Monday. Lately because of the war in Ukraine (and I live within a few hours driving distance from the Ukraine) it has been extending into the week (not that I'm getting super drunk, I usually have as much as I need to get a nice buzz going, but I'm not sober when ideally I should be). So there's definitely a creep effect to alcohol, I'm feeling it. But the way I see it - when you have an addictive personality, you counter the negative addictions with something positive, in order to balance things out. For me that would be exercise (I train four times a week), and Wim Hof breathing with a cold shower every morning. Should still cut back though, not that I'm feeling unhealthy or that whisky is getting in the way of anything, but it's pretty expensive, so that's a bit of an issue.

    • @liamg9410
      @liamg9410 2 года назад +5

      The justification by positive habits may be perfectly reasonable, or it may be something youve dreamt up to avoid admitting to yourself you have a problem. Obviously I don't know you so I have no idea about that or any other aspect of your life, but it's important to look at yourself honestly and I struggled with accepting my dependency on weed despite the fact that I was literally only sober while at work. It still took me months to admit to myself I had a problem, because I started eating healthy and told myself it cancels out. If you feel you are going overboard, you probably are. My advice would be to take 1 week without it, and then reevaluate how often you think is ok based on how difficult it was for you to cope. I am only saying this to you because the way you talked about positive habits cancelling it out reminded me of myself at a time where i absolutely did have a problem, I may just be a stranger oversharing to a perfectly healthy person lol. Good luck with the future either way, and I hope the war does not come to you!

      If and when you want to cut back on drinking (only you can decide if that is worth it for you), try thinking about dry days like cold showers or intense workouts: it is about becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable, and making a conscious decision to stay in discomfort than to give into the available stimulus of relief, eventually training yourself to reject the easy solution, because the anticipated sense of accomplishment has a stronger pull. For me, I find it easier to gain control over my body and mind in incremental steps, which is what I did both with increasingly cold showers and more frequent sober days per week during the pandemic. I just did my best to set reasonable weekly goals and revisit them every week. If I felt like I was struggling, I would keep my goals the same for the next week, but if I felt confident enough to move forward, I would increase the difficulty, continuing this process for months until I was fully happy with where I ended up (eventually meeting my ultimate goals that I set at the beginning). Like you, I also tend to balance out my vices with creative/constructive pursuits, so I hear you on that point, but for me, I felt like alcohol was getting in the way of what I personally wanted to accomplish, which is why I cut back.

    Wow, describing addiction as more of a spectrum as opposed to a "you are you you aren't addicted" is so simple yet eye-opening to me. I can see what he means, too.
    People kind of smirk when someone says they drink a lot but aren't an alcoholic, and I can relate to that. Starting my apprenticeship in electrical, I was so nervous every day for the first while, then right after work i'd shower and have like 3-5 drinks. But because I was going to work everyday (well, every weekday--you know what I mean), and I didn't go home early to drink or anything like that, I didn't see a problem with it. Plus, the Raptors were on their NBA championship run, so that whole time period was a lot of fun. I figured I was just one of those "work hard, play hard" people, and the next morning I'd mix an electrolyte powder with water, pound it, go to the gym, then go back to work again. But by like 1pm, ooh I had that itch and would sort of fantasize how wonderful that first beer was going to be in a few hours. Then off work, race home, put a tall can in the freezer while I showered, and 10 minutes later it would be that perfect cold as I heated up a can of soup, some peanut butter toast, put the next drink in the freezer in anticipation of the first one finishing, and so on.
    But sometimes i'd look at a few empty tall cans, and maybe a couple empty regular cans, and imagine them stacked up on top of each other. Then i'd think, "that would be one massive, massive drink". And that doesn't even factor in eating all the bad food that i figured I needed to absorb the alcohol.
    This didn't lead to a rock-bottom addiction story or anything, nor did it lead to me quitting alcohol completely. Like Bill said, it's a spectrum but I try to treat food just like I treat alcohol, cannabis, sitting watching youtube for too long, etc. Everything in moderation, right. It's all about trying to stack the odds in your favour, trying to exercise more often than not, staying in men's league hockey, all of that.
    It's hard though, so I appreciate that this video popped up. Good stuff
