I just recently subscribed a couple months ago. great thing about joining so late is I get to binge watch entire series. loving the ftl stuff, Jons style has really gotten more refined and confident since the old stuff.
Its pretty much required for the final fight if you avoid turning the ai on. You can teleport into the guns and kill the crew in them, which means that gun is destroyed and cant repair.
That's my thinking - it's either that, or Defence Drone (ideally Denfence Drone 2) - just as long as there's some plan for dealing with the 3x missile volley.
btw the way ion damage works against shields is that 1 ion damage means 1 bar of power is taken away for 5 seconds each. So that means that if a ship has 3 shields, you would need to have 5 ion damage done to it to get all the shields down (assuming it only has the 6th upgrade to shields, if it had the seventh, you would need to do 6 ion damage). 5 because you need 2 power for 1 shield.
Just FYI, the reason the Mantis ships you're fighting haven't had Mantis crews is because they're pirates. Pirates can have any mixtures of crew, and don't necessarily have crew that aligns with the original type. The paint job with the purple splashes and octopus skull and cross bones thing tells you they're pirates.
20:05 This is why I hate the Engi. They're so dedicated in their repairs that I am often forced to just destroy missile-equipped ships with Engi crew. In this case, however, I would definitely have made the Fire Beam hit the weapons room twice with one stroke. If both squares caught fire, the Engi would have experienced double the pain, double the passive damage to systems, and a chance that the fire would spread after one tile was extinguished. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Engi space has some of the lowest encounter rates. Dang Engi.

I used to have a small gameplay channel a few years ago (don't ask, it was really bad) and I remember how comments really helped. Not to mention purely based on YT's algorithms, the more activity your content has the more likely people are to find it, and that's definitely something that should happen
Great play, Many A True Nerd However, look at 9:15 You had plenty of scrap to upgrade your power, but left your engines down by two. You fix it more than 20 minutes later at 32:07.
The teleporter is probably the single most important system I get - it's absolutely essential for the final boss, if you're not going for drone control, anyway.

i used the same 2 pike beams tactic, but with a flak mk2 taking the shields down for me

What about an Ion Bomb & 3 Fire Beams? >:3 That would cause havoc. Hell, maybe even some Beam Drones, a Lanius ship, and some Hull Repair Drones.

If no one has commented yet, you can still destroy the enemy ship if its on fire and you have taken their offer of surrender. Happened to me today
