I enjoyed immensely your search for the river folk. And how the hell you managed the journey across the bridge, in one piece, on that Bangla Tricycle without a Cycling Helmet, Seat-Belt, Safety-Net or Parachute…………I’ll never know 😮! 🤷♂️
Hello Carl, the river gypsies are called "বেদে", which isn't pronounced "bee-dee", it's pronounced "bɛd̪ɛ", which is why no one understood you, also people were nodding because BD is often used as a short form for Bangladesh. The people you met at 12:00 didn't seem like gypsies, they're most likely normal boatmen.
Also I don't think we call them bede anymore, they are mostly called shapure (shah-poo-rey) /snake charmers because that is what they do for a living. I think people would have responded better if you had said snake charmers.
I heard a News long ago that most of this people change their profession and they do not live in river. They are still exist in Bangladesh maybe.... But it would be hard to find them in a city side.
@@MarshalVeliant I don't know TBH. If they change their profession then they'd be indistinguishable because Bangladeshis are mixed and they look like everybody. The only time I'd know someone was bede is if I saw them with their snake baskets. You see them in the bazars sometimes they go around selling ayurvedic medicine. Whenever there are fairs and stuff they are in demand to come and show their snake charming skills.
Thank you Carl for visiting Bangladesh. Looks like you enjoyed meeting with country side people and environment. Yes, you are looking for Bede (soft d) people/community. They used to live on river and help to catch snake. They don’t have any specific place to live but they travel all over the county. However, some people confused as you sound like BD (I.e., Bangladesh) community. Enjoyed your video.
Again, i have been starting to watch your video just for your incredible melodies accent. I love Irish, british and also scottish accent. I can speak english very well. But, unfortunately, i wasn’t available there. If i had i could be able to help you for the see all the places which you wanted.
I would like to invite you for the come to our countryside to explore our village beauty in front of the worldwide people. To be honest, our urban circumstances is not equitable for the visits due to the chaotic and also contamination. However, if you come to the village, you will see the evergreen scenario that is absolutely mejestic and magnificent.
the more tourists come from abroad , the more we can learn from our mistakes and improve. Our streets and roads should be cleaner, and we should encourage vendors to make food standards more hygienic. Together, we can present Bangladesh beautifully to the world.
most people didn't understand what you are searching for. it's because of your pronunciation , Bede is popularly called 'Baiddya' and usually they don't stay somewhere for too long . If come next time I'm willing to help you find them .
The bede community is slowly dying actually. Back in the days, people who lived in rivers and their houses as their boats were called Bede. They used to travel around Bangladesh, going places to places with boats by the river. Since Bangladesh is a country of rivers, they had a huge community and their unique lifestyles. Superstition was that they could tame snakes so ppl used to call them to catch snakes too. They didn't live on lands so they didn't have a definite location where u can find them. But i heard that a floating village still exists in Barishal. Even if u can't find the floating village, you can always visit the floating market there. That floating market has existed for many many years but now it's a huge tourist attraction spot.
Mr. Carl , you are a good person. Welcome to Bangladesh. I think there may be some boat people in Turag river near Tongi Bangladesh. Some boat people of Bangladesh are snake charmers.
