Just arrived in Shenzhen after being away for 10 years and to say the placed has changed is an understatement. I really didn’t enjoy my time here before as compared to Hong Kong, Bangkok it was lacking a lot of amenities and generally speaking daily life wasn’t convenient. Fast forward to 2024 and it’s unbelievable. Less noise, metro stations everywhere, ride sharing bikes, more choice of both western and Chinese food. I know the economy isn’t great at the moment, but from the looks of it people’s quality of life has improved and the place is on the up. Compared to the UK it’s heaven here

Carl, did you pay 50 pounds (RMB 500) for that hotel? That's rip-off! For next time I'd recommend local three or four-star chinese chains with a price range between rmb 250-400. It does not necessarily have to be at the city centure. Just find one close to a metro station, which then takes you anywhere in the city for very cheap fare.
