I'll never forget when they came to Charleston, WV. They did Simple Gifts in a parking lot at night beneath 2 lights. When they hit the huge part at 0:40, both lights completely went out (I don't know if they busted). It was the most epic thing I have ever seen.
Excapted, This big comparison of SCV and Cadets. Why do people forget the tear jerking versions SCV did back in both '82 and '83. They've played it 3 times now. Even though Send in the Clowns is SCV's official Corps song. Simple Gifts is the unofficial corps song. We sang it in '92 before going to sleep some nights and on the long marches to the stadium before shows.
@foreveratlast24 Center Grove, Avon, Carmel, and Laurence Central. All within a half hour of the stadium. hahaha. Yea, I'm from CG and we live like 10-15 minutes from the Stadium
It was nice to see SCV take ownership of this piece again after a long hiatus. Take a listen to the '83 corps or DVD if you have a chance; we used to sing the lyrics to this when marching toward the stadium entry gate.
my marching band is playing this piece as part of our show this year, and this part is obviously very brass heavy, so i could give you those sheets if you want
What made this so beautiful is that the trumpets didn't go all Blue Devils and try to play their highest note. They just played what was written. So beautiful!
