Welcome aboard the Spuffy pain train, I hope you enjoy the ride! Get comfy cause this is a long one.
I started this project just wanting to use all of the quotes I didn't get to use before and decided not to limit myself with the length of the video this time and well it ended up being my longest edit ever!
I honestly can't believe Spike and Buffy still surprise me all these years (and edits) later. I feel like no matter how long I work on them, there will always be new connections to be made, new ways to tell their story, new meanings or different aspects of their relationship to focus on..
In this one I focused a bit more on Spike's point of view/character development and on how inevitable Spuffy were to me.
They're just so perfectly imperfect and I feel like a single video could never make them justice so that's why I just keep making more and more lol, don't think I could ever get enough of them or this show!

Have you read the comics? As in seasons 8 to 12? Buffy and Spike get back together and start a serious (and healthy!) relationship. And the best part, it's all canon!

Spoilers:
They sleep together again for the first time since Spike got his soul and this time the morning after is a joyful one. They made love! Buffy tells Willow Spike makes her happy and that she likes who she is when she's with him. They later move in together (they even share a bed, where they sleep spooned), just them and 6 pet kittens. They always kiss and hold hands, an image very similar to Something Blue. Buffy tells Spike she loves him (too) with no problem, no denial, nor shame. Buffy's friends and sister don't only support the relationship, they encourage it. Especially Xander(!), who becomes best friends with Spike. Although they have fights like any other couple in the world, Buffy learns how to communicate, which brings them closer. They agree to try and lead a relationship as normal as possible, knowing THEY'RE not normal. Buffy even daydreams about having Spike's babies and growing old with him. Angel is shocked to learn about this relationship and Willow has to warn him from getting in their way. Angel tells her he doesn't need to because it's not gonna last... (it's the happiest Buffy's ever been and that jerk WANTS them to crush and burn). Buffy and Spike get as close as possible to what would have been considered in real life as the right time for the couple to tie the knot. Yeah, THAT knot.
However, they do break up between S11 and 12... It happens off-page, the writers didn't even give a reason (I don't think they could think of one, everything was perfect between Buffy and Spike the last time we've seen them together). All we're told is that it was mutual and they remain good friends (so it wasn't an ugly breakup or anything).
BUT, the good news, as the series once again wraps up the two leave the door open to get back together again anytime in the future. So you never know!
As for Riley, he's still happily married to Sam and doesn't even have a cameo in any of Buffy's sexual fantasies (Spike is a regular lol). As for Angel, he and Buffy have a magical (literally) sex adventure to give birth to a new universe as TPTB's pawns and Buffy has the chance to end up with him. But she passes on this opportunity and starts dating Spike, by that choosing Spike over him. That's all Bangel get in the comics seasons, they never actually get back together. Angel falls in love with Illyria and it's implied that he ends up with her (the series got cancelled during S12, so they didn't have enough time to wrap it all up. He and Buffy, who's in her late 30's now, remain good friends as well, and he and Spike decide to be friends.
@@moonystic9417 thanks sooo much for the synopsis. I haven’t watched the show since it first aired! I watched all the time. I was 14 when the first episode aired so I was prime age for it. I had seen the original movie and was obsessed so I was so happy when they made a show. I always like Spike and thought “wow he loves her so much he is denying who he is (vampire) and trying to get his soul back all for her!! “ I didn’t even know the comic was that long. But luckily I found my own “spike” in real life. Although he already had a soul and isn’t (sadly) a vampire. Lol
Angel is that first love you have in high school that is all encompassing, but almost always ends. Spike is the love you have as an adult that lasts.

I think that Spike fell for Buffy at First sight. He had so many opportunities to kill Buffy, but he didn't.

Yeah. Him walking into The Bronze and seeing her dancing there that first time, I think it’s already there. Before Joss saw it.

Spike had the best character development of the whole show 💗
While everyone talks about Angel and often forget how he was without his soul, - merciless and cold and uncapable of be with Buffy or lover with fear of losing it again, - no one takes time to see how Spike was the complete opposite, he was soulless when he fell for Buffy and because he loved her he went to search for his soul back, to amend his crimes and to be able to face her. Their love story with all of their flaws and ups and downs, was way more remarkable and intense than any other. Angel was a drunk when he was alive, Spike was a poet. He was one of the best characters there. He was meant to be a villain, to last a couple of episodes top, he lasted seasons and he became the essence of the show. His lines and love towards her are amazing, he was always there for her no matter what. Too bad they ended the series as they did, the comics though continued and glad they were end game there. 😌
PERFECT COMMENT! That’s why i like it better than Buffy/Angel. It’s not cliche life at first site perfect live life. There’s ups and downs and learning from each other. Them starting out as enemies made they’d story much more interesting and entertaining. ITS no surprise Spike became the most popular character. He wasn’t just another cliche antagonist. They gave him so much depth.

Exactly what I say. Perfectly written. That's why I love Spike and Buffy's relationship/ friendship and both their developments towards each other, esp with Spike himself. He went to get a Soul, something vampires don't want , Angel on the other hand was cursed to have one.
Spike like you said fell in love with Buffy while he had no soul still with dru, trying to fight ongoingly but, deep down undrrneath it all, he fell deeply in love with her and s7 is my fav when it comes to them, as everyone turns against her (for their own selfish needs and jealousy) Spike os always Constant. ❤❤❤

It’s funny, Angel didn’t really grow up until he was away from Buffy and Spike didn’t really grow up until he was with Buffy
That's precisely why, much as I loved Buffy and Angel for the grand first loves romance that it was, Buffy/Spike and Angel/Cordy were the relationships I came to appreciate the most ☺Buffy and Angel were just so all consumed with each other and codependent that it kept them from growing when they were together. Whereas Buffy/Spike and Angel/Cordy developed these really beautiful bonds over time that really brought out the strengths and growth in one another without being unhealthily codependent.
(With Buffy and Spike it obviously had its extremely toxic lows before he got his soul, and I wouldn't want to dismiss that, but once he did have his soul back it allowed everything solid about the relationship they'd been developing to come forward and grow, and everything toxic to be left behind.)

I think the difference to angel is: buffy and spike were always way closer to being equals
Also, there wasn't the whole..."I want to be with you, but can't", which just inherently romanticized the pain of the relationship, amping tension...but not being a healthy relationship.
the fact that Spike fell in love with Buffy without a soul, and the second Angel got a soul Buffy didn't mean anything to him. I loved some parts of Angel, but their relationship was not one of them. always felt way more natural and less "epic lovers saga" between Buffy and Spike

Angel said it himself, he was weak and always would be. For some reason Spike turned out to be the better man. Maybe it was becuz he was so complex and more human, even in his inhumanity. He was wounded but reached out to heal Buffy. Angel seemed to love Buffy, but it was more about himself and what he needed. In the end, Spike was the one who really sacrificed.

Yes I agree, I'm rewatching after 20 years near the end of season 1 was only 11 then and it seems he loves her for no reason really, feels forced just her being a hormonal teen, watching clips of spike and her recently it was a gradual process and that what makes it authentic
Except for the whole… trying to R**** her thing. I will never understand how shippers just forget that. How Buffy just forgot that. Angel loved her and respected her. He left her as an act of love as someone who lived hundreds of years and knew they were doomed for a painful ending. Spike’s “relationship” with Buffy was driven by lust. No long term plans or concern for hurting her just pursuing what he wanted in the short term.
Also for all the wonderful themes this show put out, one of the few problematic is it’s okay or “hot” if violent fighting with a partner is a “turn on.” It’s not. Your brain gets flooded with adrenaline and mixed with a little dopamine it feels good in the moment but it’s not love certainly not a healthy love.
@@micheles.1179 Yeah because he is still a freakin vampire. with no soul, a demon capable of horrible things, a demon who reveals on death and destruction. And he was able to overcome all of that go against his nature for his love.
THANK YOU for including the scene where Spike tells her he loves her and she says “No you don’t”. I always assumed that’s why he said it in the end. A call back to that conversation and the million other times he told her he loved her and she said some variant of no you don’t. Not because she didn’t really love him and she was just saying it to make him feel better.
I totally missed this! So yes thank you for including that because now his line made way more sense.
Joss has said in interviews to clear this all up that Buffy did love him and finally acknowledged it when their hands became in flames. I also contend that Buffy doesn’t lie or bullshit, and she respects Spike too much (especially by then) to lie to him. Thankfully, we have the canon comics to have them truly share their love.

This shows that the attraction didn't just come out of nowhere, Spike in S5 and Buffy in S6. It was about giving into the attraction that was always there and having even the worst parts of what they did to each other be forgiven and leading to love.
Exactly! The Angel/Buffy love was almost too perfect fantasy, but the Spuffy one was more realistic
Oh there were definitely signs they were into each other pre-season 5. In Superstar, Spike caresses Buffy in a pretty sensual way and she never removes his hand.
In Something Blue, Willow’s marriage spell didn’t mean the two had to act fond of each other, but they constantly made out and were very affectionate. I feel both parties definitely thought about it before that.
@@Pancake3225I know for a fact Spike's attraction started with the first time he saw her, as James Marsters has stated many times that's the way he played it. I was talking more along the lines of the seriousness of acknowledging it to themselves instead of being in such denial fans, who are also in denial, try to say it came out of nowhere.

We all know Spike was into Buffy from the start but I think it was mutual. Her banter with him always had flirtatious undertones in ways she never had with other vamps.
In my honest opinion Spike was the real deal after all he fell in love with this woman with no soul and when he did loved her more.

I like the Spike love story better simply because it’s a SLOW BURN. Angel is the “love at first sight”’cliche which is fine, I love the kind of stores where 2 ppl start off as huge enemies and it looks like nothing will never happen between them

I absolutley 100% agree. I have rooted for them since he first came on the scene. I never liked Angel, and the whole Dru thing was just odd. But these two. Its the perfect balance in every way.

Spike as a Human was beat down and abused and neglected and bullied and picked on by most of society he felt so beat down that he saw vampirism as a higher calling
I'd forgotten how good he was on this show.
They really capture a true love story . Spike is so gritty and raw with passion. Buffy is so strong, brave and persistent of love . They belong together. I love their gestures to each other when they are not saying anything.
If there was just one addition I'd love to see, it's the line "When I say I love you, it's not because I want you. I love what you are." And its only because its a personal choice; that line felt like Spike had resolved his complicated feelings for Buffy.
But I'm sure we all have our moments. And yet this captured the overall mood perfectly 😊
Yes. Prior to Spike getting his soul, he wanted Buffy for selfish reasons. Post soul, he respected her choice of what SHE wanted. Humility is rewarded and Spike got it from Buffy right before he died

They worked well together I liked Spike and Buffy better than Angle and Buffy, once Angle left the show it forced Buffy to really look at Spike, I loved Spike because he was in love with Buffy before he even went looking for his soul. That’s the difference between Angle and Spike, Spike worked hard to get his soul back for Buffy to prove to Buffy how much he loved her, where as Angle had his soul forced on him.
the best couple ever! strong, courageous, ready for sacrifice, but at the same time with many frailties. together they are perfect because they complement and improve each other; Spike and Buffy are a real, grown-up, mature couple.

At the same time I think Spike is perfect for a mature adult Buffy because they have more dialogue and they understand each other on a level that only two people in a real relationship can have.
this is the real love. a Journey to become the better version of ourselves. Through mistakes, misunderstanding,falls. See the better and the worst, and anyway say:"i love you".not only with words but through actions,eyes. the persons maybe think Buffy said " I love you" only in the last episode... but look her eyes when she look at him. her hands.. her tears.. There a lot of way to say that. i'm so happy,then in the comics, they finally gets what they always wanted. A normal life, side by side.

Buffy may be a cheesy show in some respects...plot lines, dialogue, props. But I've never watched anything so full of emotion, real powerful emotion. It's themes touch at the core of the human experience and serve as metaphor for some of the toughest challenges we face...proving that in the end we will make it through....She saved the world. A LOT.
It always gets me that after their truce in season 1 Buffy never did a disinvite spell for Spike. He had open access to her house no matter how many times they threatened to kill each other. But he tells her he loves her and BAM! She changes the locks.
It was to hurt him because she has her own self denying issues . Ugh she constantly berated and hurt him so often and he took most of them in the chin .

Spike was to be killed off rather quickly as a villain. Due to his popularity he was kept on which of course pissed off Joss Whedon so much. It imbalanced the show to him keeping the character alive.
But without Spike, without his involvement, without his story, it wouldn’t be Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Not the show that we grew up loving. And we are all the happier for it.

I agree Angel was Buffy's first love sweet innocent but Spike was her true love standing on equal ground and being understanding,supporting, trusting and knowing each other. Spuffy 4ever
This entire video was a complete masterpiece and I loved it so much but there was this particular bit from 10:32 where the end scene of Once More With Feeling (the musical episode) started and then that bit from Chosen with all the glowy light and then Spike's like 'let me do this' and then Buffy says it, and then Spike's like 'I love you', then Buffy, then Buffy's like 'no you don't', and then Spike. Just uuuuuurrrrgggh the parallels between them and those scenes I'd never noticed before because they'd never been edited so perfectly and beautifully together. AND THEN the music's like 'for the first time' and the scene from Once More With Feeling continues (can you tell it's my favourite episode? lol) and they kiss LITERALLY FOR THE FIRST TIME (not counting Spike's dream cause that doesn't count) and the beat drops when they actually do it and I literally almost screamed it was amazing.
The music was perfect, the editing beautiful, and I was so in the zone that I thought it was ending at like 3 minutes when the song ended but I'm so glad the video was as long as it was because it meant other aspects other than the violence of their relationship got to be covered, which was great cause they may have been like that but they still had their beautiful moments where they really cared about each other, and I think people tend to forget that sometimes. So basically, rant over, well done, and thanks for the video. :)
The funny thing about Buffy telling Spike, "Your beneath me." Is that the real end of that episode is a deleted scene with Buffy riding Spike he is indeed beneath her.
This was an Incredible Beautiful Masterpiece for My All Time Favorite Couple and My Two Favorite Characters in The Buffyverse. This Tribute shows Spikes character development through his love for Buffy. Spike wasn’t Evil he was a good person ruined by Angelus and his toxic relationship with Drusilla. Buffy is the one brought out Spike’s repressed humanity and it’s because of that love Spike manages Endure The Demon Trials and to reclaim his soul.
You're already my fave and then you put out this masterpiece! Wow, what an epic, just so beautiful. I love how it lays out their story, highlights the way they feel through all their interactions and moments. The details are exquisite, with the parallels and relevant quotes showcased. There is no way someone can watch this and deny the amazingness of Spuffy. Kudos and thank you.

I've personally always been a big spuffy fan and still am. I've always thought they had way more chemistry than Buffy had with angel I also think that there was always a bit of hesitation for Buffy to kill Spike whenever she had the opportunity to do so

Well, this was stunning. I mean the work you put into this, the colors are just perfection and the pace is so good too - it's not overtly edited to the point of giving palpitations like some edits sometimes can. I also love the moments you chose to show the whole spectrum of their journey and how you connected them - especially the little ones, the looks, the smirks, the handing weapons to each other. This stuff can get omitted sometimes, but they perfectly capture the actual trust they had for each other. It's like you said they were perfectly imperfect, a truly passionate relationship with obstacles each of them not only had to, but were able to overcome thanks to the faith and admiration they had for each other. Ngl Spike's speech gets me everytime - it's what every person would like to hear probably, that they're loved without any agenda, simply for who they are with all the ups and downs.
I rarely comment but I had to applaud you, truly gorgeous work, some might even say - effulgent.

This is so well done, you really know the material and put it together expertly.. even though you left out the upsetting near-rape scene, which I find important, but never mind. Spuffy's unforeseen and - considering that, in 90s tv shows, the heroine usually ended up with Mr Tall and Handsome - very odd love story was so rich in character development, banter, pain and rage. It is the very essence of passion imo. Still cannot wrap my head around how superbly written this plot line of BTVS was.
About the near r scene, quite a few people dont regard it as actual cannon, cause joss whedon really disliked william marsters, and wanted to make his character irredeemable- he asked writers to think of the worst possible thing they'd done/experienced and made spike do it. Obviously it still happened, but it wasnt character driven.
This is **PERFECTION**!!! Their story is SO multi-layered. You showed their journey together, as well as each of their paths that lead them to coming together. Simply, perfection.

You are just so brilliant at showing their entire journey, particularly Spike's character arc! It's always refreshing to see people who depict the beautiful journey he went on to be a better person because of and for the woman he loved. As much as I enjoy Spike's humor and sex appeal, there is sooooo much more there. The ultimate "fool for love"!!

I love the look on their faces after they knock the building down while having sex. It was such an epic moment and their connection is so powerful. Light years passed the weepy BA sex. Lol side note: have you noticed that the first time we see Buffy on top is with Spike? Lol I know, I'm sick, but think about it!! Angel, Parker, Riley...the sex is always missionary. At most you see her and Riley roll around in Where the Wild Things Are, but that's it. I have to see the symbolism here. Spike encourages and loves Buffy's power. hehe :p
And the third part of the video...the way you captured Buffy's feelings for Spike! It's so gorgeous!! I'm overwhelmed. She loves him so much. It's a grown up love based on a real partnership and trust and helping each other grow. That will always beat out childish melodramatic love.
The way his face falls when she says "Angel said the amulet was meant to be worn by a champion" and then lights up when she gives it to him!!! My heart is going to explode!! How can anyone not see how much she loves him and values him?! It's the most obvious thing!!! Gah!!

I just ended whatching BTVS for the first time in my life (90s baby though). I don't think it would have spoken to me as a teenager as it did now as a grown up. I cried watching this compilation. (maybe also a bit because of the pregnancy hormones ;-)) but I loved every bit of Spike & Buffy. Never really felt anything for Buffy & Angel except for the episodes right before and after where he loses his soul when they sleep together. But Spike and Buffy, that's something else. That's real love. Sometimes you take it all out on the person who loves you the most... they see you at your best and in your worst. And they still love you. I'm glad their relationship got so lovely in the last season. It was too dark sometimes before, but then again, Spike was a demon... Great show, great charachter! Spike's the best :-)!
I really love how you put these clips together I think you really captured spike who he was and who he became because love engulfed him along with misery into getting a soul. He did terrible things but he tried so hard in the end to be good. Beautiful, the music was perfect. Everything. Lovely

This romance was orchestrated so well, it took for fucking ever!!!! I remember being a young lad and I just HAD to watch every Saturday at like 12am (Fox 2 I believe) to see if they were ever going to really do something. Goodness gracious, talk about a draw and well worth it!!!
Only for the Spuffy crowd really, but what a lovely video suggestion I stumbled upon- so much character growth on this show! I almost wish this video maker would do one for every relationship character arc on BTVS: whether friends or lovers or frenemies. Had to love this because it is poignant, thoughtfully put together and pretty.
Beautifully produced material, kinda like Spike and Buffy.
Spike likes strong women, which allows them to be vulnerable with him. Dru was bat crap crazy. But she was fierce and was openly crazy with Spike.
Such an amazing edit. Spike was the best, most complex character on buffy but buffy always treated him horribly (until the last eps of s7) although he was a good man even w/o a soul.. i wish they made that a bit differently. In s5 and s6 he did everything to be better and be deserving of her but he had no other way but to die to redempt himself in her eyes.
I loved this. It's great and a lovely summery of their relationship. The only thing that I feel is missing is when Spike attempted to force himself on Buffy, which incited him to go find his soul. When talking about Spike and Buffy's relationship, people often gloss over it or don't bring it up at all, but i feel it's important to be mentioned, because to me at least, it underlined why Spike's love wasn't genuine. A piece of him was literally missing. Which is why it had that much more punch to it, when he went and fought to get it back.
I think his love for Buffy was real, he was horrified when he thought about what he almost done to the woman he loved, which is the reason he went to look for the part of him that was missing (His SOUL) I think he was truly in love for the first time. Spike being a vampire far longer than he was human, he had a hard time dealing with rejection, and did not understand why Buffy would gave herself to him without having love for him. His love was true, also believe that Buffy was the first woman he ever truly love.
This is AMAZING! OMG, IT REALLY HIGHLIGHTS THE ROAD THEIR RELATIONSHIP TAKES... IN THE BEST WAYS! This is awesome! Always love your vids, Hollywood needs you to make trailers! ❤
