Thank you for really putting the HERO11 Black through it all 💪
And in doing so, showing everyone that the 11 is not worth the upgrade! Even if you have an 8.
@@dennispikephotography so true
Cheers! It’s definitely my go-to chin mount camera from now on. Hyperview is 🤌
@@TheLoamRanger really great camera test and review. I am really excited about the Mini, bummed it has built in battery as I run my Hero10 w/o battery inside and a USB external battery for cooler longer run times. Really helps w/ Texas summer heat. Don't really ever use the displays, either phone or QR codes for changing settings.
@@TheLoamRanger don't know if you notice but the looks like yiur moving slower in the 10 then faster threw 11
The only honest x3 and GoPro 11 review on RUclips. I really appreciate it!!
Hero 8 here I come!
Man the hero 8 is such a good camera
Excellent review and comparisons as always. Was thinking much smaller upgrades, but the 8x7 and Hyperview modes are killer. Already ordered mine.
So which mode do you find yourself preferring for POV? 8x7 with manual editing or Hyperview for the simplicity? Given the nature of your biking shots, Hyperview seems to make sense, but I'm wondering more for general use POV where the distortion is more noticeable.
watching your channel once a year, this time of the year and never disappoint. go hero
Moral of the story, hero 8 Black is really all you need
I didnt even notice much of a difference between the 8 and 11 when they were next to each other. Gopro hasn't had any significant upgrades since the 7. Snore gopro. I am curious about the 11 mini though
You could definitely tell the 8 was shaker but wasn't that big of a different tbf, then with the 10 vs 11 there is practically no difference lol
Same, he was acting like it was a huge improvement but I legit couldn't tell. Probably matters to video-heads but for regular people why spend the $$ for tiny improvements?
@@bigslacker666 you can probably tell when you're watching the actual video files, but when it's put through the RUclips compression and you're watching on your phone all the details are lost.
The 11 mini from what I understand is the exact same as the 11 black just with no screens and a mount on the bottom and the back. Also it has an integrated battery I believe.
watching this video made me feel better about my 8. I feel like the only take away was the 11 was slightly more realistic in color, the FOV, and stability/shutter speed of course. But nowhere significant enough to notice unless you told someone, unless you really have an eye for it.
I got the Insta 360 Go 2 last year, and the square aspect ratio is phenomenal for mountain biking! Super happy to see the HERO11 upgrade!
Great comparison, can't wait for the guide, they are always extremely useful.
Awesome review, thank you sir! I'm most excited about the horizon lock, does it mess with the resolution/sharpness at all like it did on the 9?
Great tests. Thanks for your efforts 😊
What Ive learned from this is the HERO10 Black I just bought a month or two ago is perfectly fine.
I bought mine around the same time. The only camera I might swap it for is the Mini
Yup, unless you are using the gopro to take still images it seems
I’ve still got Hero3 Black cameras shooting great footage.
@@RookYZRM1 I have mine as well, but the battery life drove me nuts (even with new ones) and it just wasn't as sharp. I went for an Osmo Action and it's been a dream by comparison. Battery lasts longer than I need, picture is a million times better, etc.
@@AverageDaveVideos I had a bunch of friends that worked at GoPro so I accumulated a bunch of cameras over the years, would show up early to group rides and mount cameras to everyone's bike and Wifi them all to my handle bar remote...Hero3's, Black3's, Black4's, Sessions, Black5's, Black6's...they all pump out great footage.
Good video and thanks for your great effort to put it together.
I have never owned any action camera but have always wanted one. For so long I've been following the hay wagon until last week I decided to finally graze. I'm excited to see what I can do with the Hero 11 and the memories I'll be able to create.
I just need to make sure the settings are where they ought to be based on other's experiences.
I personally thought the 8 black looked better in the earlier comparison!
Same.
Totally agree lol
i was right because of the shorter shutter, but It's too close to make a update from the 8.
I was thinking the same thing. I kept gravitating over to the Hero 8 video. During his ride down, the 11 looked darker which caused it to have less detail.
Same here....
I'm curious to see what mountain biking looks like with horizon lock
Really good review from all those cameras. That way we can check the best to suit our preferences👌 Cheers and good trail rides🔥
Very informative. Do you use basically the same settings on the 11 as you do on the 10
Cheers for all the GoPro Vids, super helpful! Do you happen to know why when you shoot Raw Photos and then go to download them from the GoPro media library (subscription storage) they only come back as a jpeg? I'd love to edit the raw file but I can't find it?
Awesome stuff dude 🤟🔥 Thank you for this 🙏
X3 vs Hero 11 was a really interesting test. Since I also snowboard, I'll probably go with the Insta360 if it can handle an external mic for better audio (I didn't actually like the audio on the test).
Good stuff. Looking to get one and the stabilization looks great for hiking and cycling.
All I hear is that the 10 just got even cheaper. Bonus. Just in time for my 4 to completely crap out.
hahaha I'm on that very same boat!
have you considered the "mini" version of the GoPro 11? it seems to be a great choise considering its most likely lighter and less of a profile (hopefully nice for mounting under the visor)
Yup, this just locked me in for another year for my 8 black. Looked sharper, and brighter in the video, and with youtubes compression its honestly hard to see the difference anyway. Battery life has not been a problem as after about an hour of recording im down to take a break and swap batteries.
for a POV head/chin mount type and sort of multi purpose use (speed skating mainly, skiing and mountain biking) would you chose the hero 11 or the 360x3? I find it hard to make a final decide.
I'm impressed. Clicking your link! Can't wait to see the Mini in action as well. Hopefully @gopro sent you one of those too!
From watching, I noticed the 11 on your preferred settings seemed to have a crisper image, and I could catch significantly more details like, individual leafs on trees and more details on the tree trunks.
Both the 10 and 360 had more blur overall, but ofc, both cameras did their job
Hyperview is next level🤯🤯👌🙏 well done #GoPro.
Amazing shots dude👊👊
Good review! Will we see a comparison against DJI Action 3? You are one of the few to specify the settings you compare at which is an important detail.
Question: Witch ratio put you on your settings? 8:7 and squize it yourself, or just the 5K?. Great video, as always....
Your gopro videos are always cool
The 8black looked amazing.
Is it necessary to put a case on the gopro to drive on similar routes? I'm afraid that if the camera gets hit with something it will break the lens cover or the screen.
Hero 8 ! just as good! ill take it
The mini looks great as well. 👍
That last section looked amazing! I felt like I was there!
Great review, great info, as always. 🍻 Appreciated!
As a 1st time buyer for my 1st camera would u recommend the x3 or the 11
Awesomely done as usual!
Thank you! Cheers!
If you could only have one camera would you go with the hero 11 or the x3?
What are the best settings for the hero 10?
can you please do a in depth video comparison between insta 360 x3 and the hero 11?
When is the winsport bike park video going to come out?
4:11 You use the internal mic of Hero 11 here?
Where do you get your wind mufflers from?
Gopro11 vs Insta360 RS video pls.
Was gonna buy insta360 rs soon then this got release, im into mtb as well and wanting to get the 3rd person view of the insta360, but now im in a dilemma, help pls.
What wind muffler are you using? I've looked for all kinds of things: wind diffusers, mini wind muffs, etc. I can't find anything that looks like a mini dead cat/stick-on that seems like it could be cut-to-fit. Help? Other than that, I have an X3 and a Hero11 Mini (plus a ton of others) and got the Mini for my Avata. I wish there was a safe way to put the X3 on my drone (also have a Mavic Pro and Mavic 2 Pro). Too much interference with GPS signal from what I've seen.
I'm still rocking the 7, so probably will upgrade again to the 11. Mini looks really interesting. I think I might run the Mini on my chin mount and then keep the 7 for a 2nd angle option.
but you cant swap the battery on the mini, why would you go for that one ?
Just concidering buying a hero 12 to replace my hero 8. When I look at hero 8's horizontal superview FOV it says 122 degrees. When I look at hero 11 and 12 hyperview horizontal FOV, it also says 122 degrees?
Is it actually any wider than the older cameras? Or is it just taller and squished?
Strangely it seems that hero 11 and 12 superview is slightly narrower than previous models. Possibly to make hyperview look like a better upgrade than it really is?
Noob Question, I am getting different answers - when you shoot in 8:7 can you use "Hypersmooth" stabilization?
when you mention color grade - what did you do in davincci - footage looks awesome TIA
Great video!
Great video, I'll be getting the Insta360 X3
Was hoping you’d test the horizon tracking…I’ve got a Karma Grip and the comfort of knowing the camera will always be level/centered on the horizon, no matter what my body position, is suuuuuper nice. Almost always wanna run the Grip.
My dream camera
I need one of this Hero 11 black for my Mtb videos! Now i have an 8black.
Got the 10, wont upgrade till 14-15 when then the new processor comes out
Think if they stay with this processor for 12-13 will end up like 8-9 and crash more and more if the ad new feature like 6k or even 8k
Curious how these shots look in 9x16 with the new square sensor
Great test, side by side.Thank you. Question for me will be what will be the resolution and aspect ratio of the gopro Max lens mod when used on the 11. I use it in all my videos on my hero 9 en hero 10. Mostly because I want to have super view with horizon lock on (my channel focus on the beauty of the nature I be riding in and less on the action). On the 10 and 9 I use 4:3 aspect ration 2.7 K what is the highest resolution possible.
Thanks! It looks to still be 2.7k with the lens mod.
@@TheLoamRanger okay but will the aspect ratio increase from 4:3 to 8:7. (I hope so)
Will the new Enduro battery work in the Hero 10?
What trail were you riding?
I’m headed to Retallack Lodge and hope to film. Do you recommend the chin mount or chest mount for the Hero 8?
Preference. Some people like the "artificially fast" lower angle of the chesty, and are OK with losing the ability to see what's directly in front of the tire or through corners, and view that as more immersive. Others like me prefer to see through corners where the rider is looking, and also see what's directly in front of the front wheel, despite it appearing a bit slower. In a nutshell....chesty for a faster "action" look.....chin mount for more ability to see the trail features and a perspective that is more of "what the rider is experiencing." That's my take on it. (After all....our eyes aren't in our belly-buttons!!!) LOL Oh and the obvious one is....the requirement of wearing a full face helmet for chin-mount, and some people hate that. Doesn't bother me....I've seen too many facial reconstruction surgeries from people refusing to wear one because it's hot.
Awesome Review waiting for the Osmo Action 3 MTB test 🤙🍻
Have you tried max lens mod with this? Seems you can only get 2.7k with it
how do you do a chin mount?
Ended up getting the X3. Thanks for this!
i am still in doubt, can you let me know how it is holding up? I currently have a hero 9 but want to upgrade to x3 or hero 11 because I need a bigger range of field.
@@remdehair. look at my tktk darkydotgg im using my x3 on my moto riding. Might help you m8 so far its been good to me. Im loving the colors

I never owned a GoPro before. I’m going for a 1month trip to the Philippines in December and snowboarding in March 2023. I also need an action camera while I do my auto detailing videos. I’m leaning more towards between GoPro10 or 11?. What do you guys think?
Does it do HDR video?
Thanks for the review. I'd love to see a video on just the 10-bit color and flat profile. How much more detail do we get prior to color grading. If they put a 1" sensor in, this would be a no brainer upgrade to all prior GoPro's. Your comparison of the Hero 8 vs 11 in one of the shots shows that there's not much difference in what you can do with the 11 which is disturbing.
Great vid, I really hoped you would run through the mini also, I’m after a smaller GP for under visor.
Those won’t come out until late October, so no one has access to the mini for testing. Otherwise I definitely would have!
@@TheLoamRanger yeah I saw that after I commented . Thanks Ryan.
I still love my hero 8, so stable and crisp quality!
Keen to know about the Enduro battery and the Mini
8 Black looked better to me. (At 2:50). Cleaner frames, no overall blur. Viewed on a 4K 10-bit display.
Honestly, the Hypersmooth at 8:46 (with 16x ND) seems to me to be too blurry. Noise aside. The motion blur is great, I know that's important for action, but it's (IMHO) too much. I'd dial it back - maybe an 8x ND? Or less?
The footage at 10:23 looks pretty good to me (a lot of artifacts, but not super noticeable when playing the video, only when paused).
I'm getting an 11, upgrading form a 9. Should be an improvement, and I cannot wait to play with the settings. I primarily shoot flat and grade in FCP, and I've been VERY happy with my 9 settings (from your video a few years ago). Thanks for all the hard work, I appreciate your reviews and info!
Thanks for the resolution reminder. Lol I always forget.
Hero 8 for the win, lol! The Hero 11 higher shutter speed did look nice though, and would be good for pulling stills out of the video footage, but otherwise I feel like quality isn't improving much now. I think you would see the difference in edge cases such as low light or at higher resolutions, but overall I don't see enough difference. What you're shooting and the story you're telling in a video is going to make a way bigger difference than what camera you're shooting with now.
Personally I thought the sound was better on the GoPro than the Insta. The insta sounded "tinny" to me, kinda like old analog 70s music. Really impressed with how far the Insta has come compared to their last version. More competition in the market the better!
Forces gopro to actually make some small improvements instead of only having to make the 10 an 11
a A year ago the audio of X2 is crap, now I can't believe what I heard when I Ryan switched the audio to the X3. Its bonkers
Interested to see what you think of the DJI Osmo Action 3
Same! (You seeing this Loam?)
Does it squeeze/sqwoosh 8/7 down to 16-9 or crop it?
If you're in Hyperview mode, it's allll squeeze and sqwoosh. If you're in Superview, there's a bit of crop and a bit of sqwoosh. Wide and Linear modes are just crops.
Are u planning on oing a Action 3 vs gopro11 video ? That's the one we all want to see
Ditto!!
hard to tell with compression, but how is iq of x3 single lens vs 5.3k on the 11?
Wow sana all may ganyan...sana someday makaroon din ako ng ganyan camera para sa pag ba vlog
Until they come out with a larger sensor I'm afraid the IS just doesn't work in the dark eastern woods where I usually ride (think Brevard area). It just turns to mush on my Hero 9 no matter what I try, it does however work beautifully in good light, especially out in places like Moab
In another comparison I watched, the new DJI action 3 seemed to handle low light really well compared to the 11, maybe thats worth checking out
Both the hero 11 and the action 3 have upgraded bigger sensors, actually first ever sensor size upgrade ever (for the GoPro atleast). So it's a tad larger and theoretically better for low light. Not enough tho)
i have the 8 Black and i don't see a big progression with the 11 ...the only reason would be the new battery because I use it often in the cold. I think, that GoPro need also a optical stabilization, a bit bigger sensor and more than 130 Mps to capture all details at fast runs.
Can you make a review video on DJI Action 3
Nice one! I was waiting for the low down on the new 11! So here's a question... would you upgrade from the 9 to the 11? or the 10 to the 11? Is it worth it?
That’s what I’m wondering. I have the 10
@@silverbackshooting1563 Yeah I’m on the 9. But apart from 4K 120fps I don’t really see the need for an upgrade.
I'm still using the 7 black and looking for an upgrade. Any suggestions?
@@jmeib the 11 I guess hha
better wait for hero 12 or 13..😄
X3 sounded good, my GoPro keeps freezing footage and eats battery really fast…
I'm curious about the DJI Action 3 vs the Hero 100, it's like $200 cheaper
Thanks for making this video because it further confirms my decision to stick with my 9. I also prefer the color of the 360 vs the 11 because in my opinion it was more natural where the 11 looks a bit saturated and the pine barks was more red and mushy than natural. Again, thank you
Thats right folks....The 8 is fine for most people as shown here 💪💪
I am Japanese.
Your video was most inspiring.
I have decided to buy HERO11.
Please keep making fun videos.
Thank you for your ministry.
Hey mate, are you going to be releasing a clip with the best settings for the Hero 11?
Working on it right now actually. Should be out tomorrow (Wednesday).
@@TheLoamRanger Awesome! love your vids mate keep em up!
maybe next episode can try dji action 2 vs gopro 11 .
Thanks for the review. Interested in the new built-in horizon lock feature, stabilization and video recording limit. Gopro 10 with max lens mod provided horizon lock but limited up to 2.7k video.
Also interested in how the Hero 11 works with the Max Lens Mod. Would love to know what resolutions and frame rates are supported when the mod is connected.
@@jamaliciousben same as before with 2.7k 60 limit with max lens mod. Built in Horizon lock only available in Linear mode. Disappointing.
@@BikingBadwithTC That is disappointing. Guess I won’t be upgrading.
@@jamaliciousben ....Maybe check on the DJI Action 3? It's 155* FOV....so same FOV as the Max Lens Mod on the 11....and the only limiting factor is 240fps is limited to 1080p, but 120fps is up to 4K...if you're big into slo-motion stuff. So you give up a little there at 240fps vs the 11, but you're gaining resolution at the 155* FOV on the DJI...unless I'm missing something from the specs and reviews I've seen. It's got some slick mounting advantages, NO overheating at 4K 60fps, and a really nice external mic system that is intriguing. I'm starting to swing around toward that one....after years of GoPro use.
@@willbros1499 You make some compelling points. I’ve been using GoPros for so many generations that it’s tough to consider anything else but maybe it’s time.
What audio settings? What’s the wind muffler? Is it just a windslayer?
Just a windslayer
@@805mctrailrider8 i’ve been looking into the GoPro 11 mini but not sure about wind noise reduction. I figured use using the winds later on this but just wanted to make sure that they didn’t update the auto wind noise or something. Because his footage definitely sounded good!
@@JaredHoff His quality is really good. Wind slayer is the best honestly because anything thst gopro does to get rid of the wind will make the audio terrible
@@805mctrailrider8 I’m always like king for ways to improve my GoPro settings. I’ve done a lot of back-to-back tests and had some issues with the windslayer wearing out quick and not sounding as good as some other options. But can’t deny this footage sounds great so maybe I need to reassess. That’s kind of why I was wondering exactly what he’s using.
@@JaredHoff i do the same thing. I run a hero 7 right now and wind slauer is perfect for it. Thats wierd you have problems with it tho, i have never had a problem with it
Damn we’re already at the 11? Must be amazing cause I still have my 5 black and works flawlessly. GoPro makes a great action camera. Full recommendations
My worry is that it overheats. I do long dirt bike rides and races. I run through batteries like crazy too.
should've test it with action 3
Superb review! The Insta360 X3 has the greater advantage in terms of versatility and performance in my humble opinion..
U r an inspiration for our videos:)
