    07:58 - This is so true! My dad fell off a log and landed on his check with his arms infront of him, but the gopro sticking out bruised his ribs, good thing it wasn't too serious.
    Then a week later crashed with a full face helmet with a chin mounted GoPro and that hurt a lot more when the GoPro hit his chest. As you've said there's risk whenever we strap a camera, probably why EWS or DH racers are only allowed to have a gopro at the top of their helmets where it could easily break away.

    I'm a fan of the chest mount over the chin mount. I want to see the hands, it feels more immersive. With less of the hands and bars it feels more like a drone video. I'm still on the Hero 7 myself. Cheers and great videos!👍

    For those camera nerds out there. The Hero 11 has the same sensor size as the hero 7, but with more pixels. The hero 11 has a 27MP sensor, while the hero 7 has 12MP. So the density of more pixels means that they have to be smaller in order to fit into the same sensor size! Smaller pixel size means less light into the sensor, which means the camera has to compensate with lowering the shutter speed. Lower shutter means worse image stabilization. This is why the hero 7 is probably the best one of all the gopros for low light situations. But hyperview is nice though. For Jeff: if you download gopro Labs, you can set the minimum shutter speed to 1/240th seconds. It's worth a try if you use gopros a lot.

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the info!!! Interesting I had never googled the sensors in these. I feel like a 1/50th shutter should be fine, iirc we used to just set all our GoPros to that bitd- all of us RUclipsrs at least.

    • @MarkusFinholt
      @MarkusFinholt Год назад +1

      @@JeffKendallWeed 1/50 will be fine with a gimbal, but without a gimbal you need at least 1/100 on the Hero 7. On the other models I found that I needed at least 1/200 to make it work.

    • @AndreasRavnestad
      @AndreasRavnestad Год назад

      @@JeffKendallWeed Markus is correct, the stabilization will work much better at 1/200 or less. The reason is that even though GoPro uses gyro-assisted stabilization, any motion blur captured in video will create an illusion of shaking no matter how well hypersmooth is working. You will see this effect starting to emerge at around 1/180 and just get worse and worse as you approach 1/50. At 1/240 or less you will basically get perfect stabilization and very smooth video (especially with 60fps), but at the expense of more ISO noise.

    One thing to consider with the chinmounts are that your neck is it's own kind of Gimbal. I noticed (in good lights conditions) that you can even dial down the stabilization and get a wider image. I still switch from chest to chin depending if I will be wearing the fullface or not.

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  Год назад +1

      That’s the whole point of my video- the wider FOV is more important than the higher stabilization. Especially in low light. I chest mount with the lowest form of stabilization now and it works OK!

      @alexisonbike3652 Год назад

      @@JeffKendallWeed Depends on the trail as well. If I know I'm going down a chunkaton I will use the max setting, but in flow trail I will definitely dial it down when I use the chest mount. I got recommended a program that is very neat it is called Gyroflow (it's free). It allows you to stabilize in post like the gopro does on the fly. The awesome thing is that you can specifically choose the amount of croping/stabilization you need or want.

    I still use Go Pro Hero 7 Black with PeauPro87 3.37mm No distortion lens, many youtubers mention the GoPro effect as they call it, the fish eye lens distortion, this is not an issue I have with the lens, the FOV is slightly narrower, but image looks natural. I had no idea there are different aspect ratios avail. But I primarily film for RUclips so I’ll always keep everything at 16:9. When I make vids for Instagram/shorts/Facebook I just crop 1350x1080 in premiere (usually 63% scaled) and export.
