That's apart of most fictional story networks. But especially shonen stories, as editors want similar stories that can blow up and sell to a target audience. And whilst individuals who read multiple series find the market stale, newer readers will likely be excited because they suddenly have a huge market of manga to read similar to their first anime. And newer readers are always prioritized more.
TLDR, uh...read Blame. Over and over again.

FAX FAX ABSOLUTE FAX. Masked has read some many different series at this point, that even the more subversive ones tend to be kinda samey for him. I think that's why I always try to look into different mediums of entertainment and not solely stick to one. It just creates different experiences naturally since each medium tells stories so differently from each other. hope he's doing well tho

I am a romance anime sucker. I used to be binge on Isekais and the fantasy genre. However, Romance anime just provided the best emotion inducing story lines out there during my peak. I can not stick with an anime if it doesn't play with my emotions in some way. However, most romance and other animes today are just devoided of any well developed call on emotion. There is a lot of good art and animations, as there should with the development in technology. However, that can only keep me engaged for so long until I lose interest.

Boredom signals a need to change. Not necessarily the activity, but the foundation of reason for said activity.
For example, I worked in the IT industry for 8 years. I felt squeezed and dried up after my last layoff. The reasons for me to continue working seem distant and illogical. Taking the time to rest and recover, to discover why I should continue in the IT industry, and the path I wish to walk, helped to rekindle my enjoyment of the job.
This feels like the same for you, Masked Man, where your job used to bring joy, but now only brings pain. Like the original reason for walking into this industry, discovery of new, faded, and no longer motivates you to keep pressing forward. Now you desperately cling to any reason to make content about media, instead of recovering a bit, and learning about what you want from the media.
Do you want great stories, or stories that model a certain moral standard, or stories which provides entertainment?
Do you want to read the ungodly amounts of new material to reveal the gems to your viewers, ala a treasure hunter?
Do you want to parody the awful material, or encourage your viewers to submit terrible material, ala a mocker comedian?
Do you want to teach others how to build a successful story using the ones you know to be great, ala a teacher?
There are many more paths to walk, with a specified outcome. I wish you luck in said journey.

🔸yep, thats why i switch fictional mediums & subgenres pretty often from korean/chinese/japanese/american/indian webtoons/anime/dramas/tv shows/movies/songs/videosongs/podcasts/audiobooks/audio dramas/youtube videos/3D,animated,live action short films/series etc to a lot more & if i get bored/tired & it feels the same despite being good i just switch.
🔹& audio works can give my eyes a rest too.
      🔸𝙚𝙭𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚 : 𝘼𝙢𝙖𝙯𝙤𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙢𝙚
🔹Its not just anime, its everything. Eg. I was watching dark stuff on Amazon prime because thats what it has the best of the most.
But i was tired from similar kind of dark horror so i switched to a lighter supernatural romance on other app.
      🔸𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨
🔹with so many alternatives, i don't have things I'd run out of easily as well.
🔹also people forget how important it is to switch genres + find unique plotlines even if you are using same medium/genre.
🔹as many ppl stick to just main genres & obviously one genre can feel like a pattern.but finding obscure anime & as he said its ok, to be uncertain as its not predictable.
      🔸𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙧𝙚
🔹i even made a list of genres & subgenres from shounen, shoujou, josei, seinen, romance, mecha, food, sports, boys love, girls love, slice of life, heartwarming, parenting, dance, music, singing, acting, detective, mystery, police, supernatural, demon, sci-fi,magic, cyborg, art, school, war, post-apocalyptic,apocalyptic, historical, samurai, space, survival, time travel, super power, psychological horror, thriller, crime, ghost, gaming,zombies,vampires,monster,isekai,artificial/mixed reality, professional (like theres an anime about making a dictionary & while many may not like it, its an example of theres something for everyone out there especially in a vast medium like anime) etc.
🔹& while i dont watch every genre with same frequency & i do skip certain genres that i just can't watch due to gross Fanservice/boring patterns like ecchi/harem (with exception if theres a good story & low & less gross Fanservice), i do keep an eye out for a good plot line even if its not my favourite genre.
🔹& all that alone helps me switch things up.

this actually makes total sense to me. I have ADHD, and I go through big long hyperfixation phases. this means that I'm pretty slow to consume new media... I spend a long time on each show that really grabs me, and I can cycle my interests through like, 3 or 4 things that are on top of the pile, if I find a new thing while an old hyperfixation is still in full swing.
right now I'm very into Bang Brave Bang Bravern as my new peak enjoyment, followed by Dungeon Meshi at a slightly comfier, more moderate level of engagement. Vinland Saga was my previous peak enjoyment media, and will still engage me just as much if I shift focus to it, and Golden Kamuy was the one before that. (and Dorohedoro... I'm super excited for season 2!) but also, if you get me started on Pluto, Revolutionary Girl Utena, or Chainsaw Man, I can pivot my energy into them as well. but this handful of things represents the stuff that really grabbed me and held on tight over the past few years. it's a pretty exclusive collection of series.
and I think it really pays off to spend the time I want to spend with these stories. theory crafting, talking about the themes, engaging in character analysis, consuming fan works, speculating on the characters in different scenarios, showing it to friends who haven't seen it, seeking out video essays, or reviews, or AMVs about the thing... I can spend a good long while engaging with this media as a fan. this works for me because I'm fairly selective about what will hook me... I'm not gonna get pulled in by just anything. and I have a strong sense of my own tastes, and what tends to meet them.
but I think the most important thing to me, is that the experience is social. it's rare that I can stay focused on watching a new series without watching it with my friends in a group setting. and because a lot of my friends keep differently inconvenient schedules, I'll often have to show them these things at different times, and at different paces. so I can easily rewatch a show 2 or 3 times just by the necessity of making sure everyone gets to see it. we usually get together weekly, so this draws out the amount of time a show takes to watch, and gives us all time to discuss things between watch sessions. it's a way better method than binging, unless you have a real thriller that pulls you in too strongly.
but basically, the experience of these shows is meant to be shared. and it helps if the opinions you form can go beyond the whole "peak/mid" modern anime fandom language. I hate that stuff too, and I think it really poisons the waters for trying to form more complex thoughts about the stuff you like and why you like it.

I got burnt out on anime a few years back it was basically almost the only thing I watched. I would explore so many different series but a time came where I began to only watch shows I was already watching and not explore new shows. When AoT season 4 came it was so good I had to go read the manga and that was the beginning of me being a manga reader instead of an anime watcher. I can read manga on my phone literally any where at my own pace and so much can happen in one chapter it’s the best honestly.

    My personal answers are..
    - I am tired to read & watch something I know already.
    - I don't take stories seriously anymore.
    - I got work and do daily life things that matter more to me.
    - And finally.. I am older and waayy too busy to care about none sense stories.
So yeah age does matter in that sense. But what I think is missing in anime/manga culture is maturity.
I have no care to fantasy or fiction if there is no trace of maturity and care put into it.
And Erased. Parasyte.. Darker than Black, Cowboy Bebop and the old time of Dragon Ball.. Was to me the best stories.
Now Dragon Ball Super is just ruining that spirit, since there is no real goal in the story anymore.
So what I think is missing in Manga/Anime.. Is maturity, conception of true morals and the fondamentals of growth.
Until than, I doubt I will care about manga/anime.

There's a lot of that, but the point is that what's popular here is the same kind of mango as always. Remember, a lot of what comes here doesn't represent the entire manga industry, so a lot of good things go unnoticed. Also, you can take a look at the manga magazine that you liked, as there are high chances that you will find something that you might like in the future. This issue of maturity is also related to where you look, because if you only read the same types of manga in the same magazines, you certainly won't find something different.

I feel the same. I can't tell if this is anime burnout or just the fact that adulthood takes a lot of energy and time. Responsibilities such as college, bills, jobs, for some even raising a family or being in a serious relationship all require a lot of mental energy and leaves very little for other things. Where doing leisurely things (outside of anime) like even video games, I can no longer find that same commitment to sit down and actually do the things that once brought me so much joy. Yeah. I really relate to this video and I am really thankful for you making this. I was beginning to feel this way in 2020, and began freaking out. I didn't want to think the stereotype was true that "you will one day outgrow anime." Also, I have been clinically diagnosed with M.D.D, and I really didn't want to think that illness took something else I loved. But I think a trash taste podcast episode briefly talked about anime fatigue and then I looked more into it. I have been enjoying anime since 2003, back when I was still in middle school. So its actually impressive I didn't experience this fatigue sooner. But my illness has kept me stuck in this fatigue. While new shows I began consuming helped, like One Piece (finally got into it) and Chainsaw-man. I haven't really been able to consume other shows on my own. I haven't really been able to get thru episode 1 of Bleach, my childhood favorite, or even begin Chainsaw-man anime. But what's helped is taking a break and talking about things outside of anime, shows like criminal mysteries. Then trying to find anime similarities to those tv shows I like. While this might not work for everyone, it's beginning to get me back into anime. But it does take time, and don't be afraid to give yourself that time. Thank you for dedicating a whole episode to talk about this. Thank you being strong enough to discuss such a vulnerable/scary subject.

The problem is with anime/manga is , corny female characters, most of anime and manga keep getting milked and its rare to find something finished, lot’s of anime and manga dont have soul in them like some manga have the protagonist walking in a city full of coffins and blood everywhere and he just don’t give a fock and just continue to walk his way.

Recently I do kind of have the problem that I can't really binge watch anime anymore; a few years ago I'd be able to watch through 100-ish episodes on a single weekend (definitely a mistake to do that regularly tbh) and now I struggle to even watch more than 2 episodes a day. And despite me thinking at the beginning of last year that I'll stop watching seasonals and focus on more old stuff, I've done the complete opposite and almost only watch seasonal anime at the moment, inbetween my reading. I think, like you said, a good balance is the most important thing when it comes to ... well, honestly probably everything ... including consuming media. That's why I made somewhat of a schedule (it's more like a suggestion than an actual plan to follow 100%, because there's always some things I pick up spontaneously) for myself on how to balance my anime, manga, light novels and very rarely also visual novels so that I don't get burnt out. And if I DO get burned out nonetheless, I'll just try and distract myself from the medium with some real life activities either alone or with friends: Recently pondered to pick up learning another instrument to get a change of pace, but I'm not sure on that front yet

Anime and Manga used to be my life. It gave me inspiration and things to look forward to, especially those with amazing stories. Sadly, once I started college, they seem to bore me. Probably because my obligations changed, or it's just that I simply don't have the time anymore. I sometimes force myself to watch anime just to go back to the "good ol days," but I can't even finish an episode anymore.

Balance is something I've been thinking A LOT about over the last few years. Not just with myself, but just in general and the world at large, especially with...the way things have been.
Personally, I still mostly enjoy my hobbies, though I do often find myself bored as hell a lot of times. I'm also always looking for the next thing to lose myself in the way I've done with so many of my favorite games, anime, manga, etc. It's a pretty frustrating cycle. Though in my case, I've also recently realized that I'm trying to do WAAAAAY too many things at once. Anime, manga, drawing, working on a light novel, trying to learn game design, and trying to get fit.
As for the main topic, yeah, burnout is a sumbitch. Again, I don't really have that issue with anime and manga, probably because I space that out a bit more, but I've absolutely felt it with art numerous times. Best thing to do really is to just stop and take a break for a bit.

Sure, I still hold stories I’ve enjoyed in the past in my heart, but those alone - haven’t been able to accept new favorites or even new content relating to anime and manga. I was feeling exactly this way around a year ago, and the part about our entertainment becoming background noise of sorts really resonated with me. Personally, I found that my solution was through rationing: simply put, I restricted myself to a single episode or volume per time period, and created a "time slot" for them. In effect, I'm rationing anime by simulating broadcast television. And somehow, _it works._
I think part of it might be that this system triggers my own childhood stimuli of watching shows on TV. I plan my entire schedule around my anticipation for that single episode/volume, and imposing limits makes each episode feel... earned, somehow, by my self-control. It also helps that I mostly watch and read slightly older series, which normally have a slightly episodic structure to them.
Just putting this out there for people who might want to tackle this problem the same way as me. I guess I learnt that you can have as much of a good thing as you want, provided you pace yourself.

And u have to be careful because you don't want to ruin a good piece of content and have a bad experience/connotation with it just because you weren't in the mood and forced urself. With me what i tend to do to avoid this is rotate between mediums. When i get bored with a type of entertainment ill switch to my next. its like a rota. So ill read manga for a while, when I get bored now my entertainment will be tv shows, then when I get bored ill switch it to video games, then anime, then movies, then documentaries, RUclips etc etc. There's so many forms of entertainment so once you rotate round OR you just don't experience a medium for a while, ull miss manga again and begin to crave it again. This is what I do and it works perfect. Hope it helps.

Same with drawing I took a hiatus to recharge myself. Also with guitar. I just wish anime was still a niche than popular like in the 10s vs the 20s. I think it is normal to take breaks from posting in X and Instagram. To take a break from anime especially after the Finale of AOT. Only one show I felt was fantastic and that was Nonja Kamui for new anime. A lot of times it is the animation, lack of objectification of anime girls/women, lack of action, and lack of characters thst’s making me feel ennui. Well it's like you said, keep a balance. Can't say that I relate to what you're going through, but I understood what you were saying. How I've always managed to avoid burnout with the two mediums myself, is experiencing a variety of different stories from other mediums. Anime is my favorite one, but I don't allow myself to be limited to just that one.
I also have always made the habit of not chasing a past feeling that I may have had, with a certain anime. Instead I create new feelings and experiences, by re-watching something that I probably misunderstood. Or just experiencing a new story that I feel like reading or watching. It's easy to fall into certain mental traps with anything in life, but balance is key. As well as just being genuinely honest with yourself, in what you're passionate about within reason.

Dude, I honestly think we just moved on. I started following your channel when you had like a couple thousand subs (I think we are the same age, even), and just as I was also getting into these comics. But over the last 2 years especially, I just feel like I have grown up, and so did you, probably. The same urge I had to find answers to questions in life that was once satisfied by manga has now become a curiousity for books, concept albums and philosophy, while I barely manage to keep up with the approximately 5 ongoing mangas I still follow, and even more rarely do I feel in any way affected by them. Every new gen thing that people have sworn to be the best thing ever I can't seem to read past chapter ten whether that be Demon Slayer, JJK, Chainsaw man or anything else which might have once become instant favourites of mine.
This medium has a severe weakness in that it is very limited by industry standards, demographic requirements and genre clichés with a relatively short overall history compared to literature or music, and the same few themes being regurgitated over and over again. We simply require things that are very hard to provide in the format of a comic book, a blockbuster film or cartoon. And that is okay.

it's probably why I moved to reading novels not because I think one is better than the other but because I needed to refresh myself and distance myself from a medium I had grown stagnant and familiar with to a digressive point that needed new stimulation from other artforms
not only that I find it to be an issue of how online manga readers tend to pace themselves in a binging manner where they devour one series go to the other and repeat and repeat until the act has lost that intial joy and you simply consume for the sake of consuming
I think finding new things and pacing yourself can do you a breath of good in this world where you have a vast amount of media with literally hundreds of shows with varying levels of quality instead it's become more of a quantity factor hence why subscriptions stereaming services have become prevelent in some ways it parallels the experience of reading manga nowadays

I feel this, but with certain genres. I am honestly 100% certain that 95% of all Shoujo manga are the same thing just with different characters. I become pleasantly surprised when I find something different, but it feels like certain genres lack any originality and just do the same things that works over and over until the heat death of the universe. It's this way with a lot of Shounen too. People hyping up the Demon Slayer anime when it's carried by it's animation, it's story is a solid c-. I feel this way about so many new Shounen. I mean shit Gojo (I've only season 1) looks like a straight copy of Kakashi.
As a writer myself I wish I had the artistic skills to make my own manga. I've been working on my own story for 23 years. TWENTY THREE FUCKING YEARS! I keep writing, and rewriting, and rewriting. Eventually I will put it out there, but being a massive perfectionist I see issues with the plot and start over, or I have new and better ideas and start over. It's going to be a ten part series, but the world likely won't see it until I'm an old man, unless I can find an artist that can convey my image and is willing to work for lent until (if) it makes it.
There is nothing wrong with inspiration, but it become a carbon copy if you don't do something different with the story. It's almost like originality has been sucked out of the world and by the time I finish all the good manga/anime I'll be left with nothing but my own thoughts.

*Opposite of boredom is not Excitement*
As I sit here staring at the blank screen, I can't help but feel overwhelmed by the feeling of boredom. It's a feeling that's been creeping up on me lately, as I've struggled to finish the latest anime series or keep up with the latest trends in pop culture. But why is this happening? Why do I feel so uninterested and stuck?
Yes,I do think may be part of the problem is the oversaturation of the medium. But it seems like everywhere I turn, there's a new show or movie to watch, a new book to read, or a new trend to chase. With so much content out there, it's easy to get numb to it all, to feel like I've seen it all before. And yet, I keep consuming, hoping to find something that will spark my interest and capture my attention.
But maybe the answer isn't in consuming more, but in creating. Lately, I've found that helping others with their creative projects has been a way to combat my own boredom. When I detach from consumption and focus on creation, I feel a sense of excitement and purpose. It's like I'm part of something bigger than myself, and that feeling is incredibly fulfilling.
I've also realized that the key to finding meaning and purpose isn't necessarily in seeking out new experiences, but in exploring our feelings of discontent. When we're bored, it's easy to jump to conclusions or beliefs about what we should be doing, but this can actually hinder our creativity and keep us stuck. Instead, by taking the time to really explore our feelings, we can find a direction that is timeless and ever-creative.
Ultimately, though, I think the most important thing is to remember that freedom cannot be acquired. If we're constantly searching for something to fill the void of boredom, we'll never truly be free from it. Instead, we need to find a balance between consumption and creation, between seeking out new experiences and exploring our own inner worlds. And sometimes, _"we just need to take a step back and enjoy the simple things in life, like a cup of calming Jasmine tea"_ , as *Uncle Iroh* would say.

You see this a lot with anitubers and their lists of what they'll be watching or recommending for an upcoming season. It's either a battle/power shonen, a generic isekai, a cringy rom-com, or just a blatant ripoff of a show that "worked". With so many seasonal lists this is the case and I find myself hoping to find something that appears to be different but many times I'm left disappointed.

Think of a character, any character that has been stated to be dead from the beginning of the series. Yep. They came back. Not naming any names, but my fellow fans can deduce who I'm talking about. This manga has become so disney it's not even funny. Why did I spend so much time railing on Black Clover's newest chapter? It's because I can understand where your coming from. Reading a manga that you've loved since chapter 1 slowly progress into being horrible (shut up about Black Clover for a minute I'm biased), is kinda depressing and discourages me from reading more. The problem with a lot of Anime and Manga is that everything takes inspiration from other things and because the source of the content is confined to a small island in the east, the spread of diversive ideas is limited. We fell in love with anime and manga as it was something that deviated from the content that you normally watched. Whether it was all the live action dramas or hardcore action movies, it offered something different. Now anime and manga has become that normal, and you need to escape to find something new. Whether that means returning to what you initially tried to escape, or finding something new all together, diversifying what you experience is important, otherwise you burnout over the content you obsess with. The same applies to normal books, video games, the type of youtube videos you watch, etc.

I'd say it's pretty common for people to go through such phases. You love something so you do it excessively until you get bored of it, it happens to me all the time. The key is simply to try different things, to get out of your comfort zone as much as possible in order to either find something new to love, or crave what you had before. Giving another chance to things you didn't like when you were younger and probably less open-minded can be a good idea too. For a long time I thought Shinsekai Yori was a pretentious and cryptic anime, then I rewatched it and it turns out that I was just dumb when I first watched it.

Most stories follow a blueprint that is based on a formula that appeals to the average person ,99% of writers do not read and if they do they pull from the same sources. It's a job because when you do read, you read like an editor looking for tropes and laziness. Why aren't there any stories based on African civil wars? Why aren't there stories based on Native American magic? Why aren't there stories that show countries that had successful dictatorships? Why aren't there stories where all main characters are prone to passing away and not having a lead? There is no experimentation and if there is we have seen it before. Most Japanese are not willing to find inspiration or draw from other cultures with an intense focus, manga books are bankrupt of imagination.
