Thanks! Going on a mini historical vacation to Saratoga in a fe weeks, reading books and playing a few war games. But the animated map is truly helpful to pull it all together. I must admit, at first you sounded young but then you sounded young and informed.
Middle school history teacher here: this video is excellent and can stand next to the other excellent animated map channels out there, like the Operations Room. I love that you narrate these in your natural voice, do not let haters say you sound "too young." Keep up the excellent work!
He’s right about not being ashamed of your natural voice and youth and not letting haters stop you. In the Bible, the Apostle Paul told young Timothy: “let no man despise thy youth”. Proud men look down on youth. Never listen to them.
Not here for a school project or anything... Just really love the logistics of battles and whatnot. At first I was skeptical because of how young you sound but you do a great job at describing tactics and the train of thoughts of the leaders. You have earned my subscription... Keep it up!
Thanks for the video! I showed this to my 8th Grade class and had them answer questions based on it. There were a couple of things which you neglected to mention. 1. Horatio Gates was not well-liked by his men. They despised the fact that he hesitated to take action and preferred to hide in the camp during engagements. His own men called him "Granny Gates." 2. During the height of the fighting, Gates sat in his tent arguing the merits of the American Revolution with a captured British officer while Benedict Arnold defeated Burgoyne's army. 3. Arnold was wounded in the leg, which caused him to miss the surrender ceremony of the British. Had that bullet gone through his heart instead, he would be remembered today as one of the greatest heroes of the American Revolution. 4. The fact that Arnold was given no credit for his having won the battle was a key contributor to his later treason. 5. After the British surrender, Gates invited Burgoyne and his officers to lunch. It was very informal, with a rough wooden plank between two rocks to serve as a table. Burgoyne was grateful because, as you noted, he was low on supplies. After the meal was over, Gates lifted his glass in a toast and said, "To King George of England!" Burgoyne responded by lifting his own glass and responded, "To General George Washington!" 6. Gates later lost the Battle of Camden, and in his cowardly flight, covered more than 90 miles in three days. Following this, he was relieved of his command.
Good to see kids creating their own video. Another great resource is Mike Duncan American Revolution Podcast. This is great for the use of maps & illustrations. Well done!
This is an excellent video. I am currently putting together a lesson on the American Revolution for an English Student of mine. I had really been struggling to understand/comprehend other content on the Battles of Saratoga. This is the best video I've watched so far and I will definitely be using what I learned in this video to put together my lesson. thank you
Very cool! Its refreshing to know a young person taking interest! I wish my 26 year old daughter knew REAL AMERICAN HISTORY! Benedict Arnold and Barry St Ledger are in my family tree!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS. I was so confused on this battle, and all the other videos were too hard for me to understand. Thank you for putting it in a clear way so I could understand. Now I'm confident about my school project! 😅 Thank you, this video really helped me.

Gates had tapped Tadeusz Kościuszko, a Polish-Lithuanian military engineer, to survey the country between the opposing armies, choose the most defensible position, and fortify it. Finding just such a spot near Saratoga, overlooking the Hudson at Bemis Heights, Kościuszko laid out a robust array of defenses, nearly impregnable. Artillery emplacements on Bemis Heights prevented the British from advancing on the river road and forced them inland to try and take the artillery in the rear, where they found the Americans in a blocking position on fortified high ground. His judgment and meticulous attention to detail frustrated the British attacks during the Battle of Saratoga. Kościuszko's work at Saratoga received great praise from Gates, who later told his friend, Dr. Benjamin Rush: "The great tacticians of the campaign were hills and forests, which a young Polish engineer was skillful enough to select for my encampment."
o-my... Benedick Arnold got dumped on... 🤕 cannot trust the boss... 🥺 nice info.. 🥳 i am not sure if all this fighting is really over with, like cap-hill... 😕
2:44 - those defensive fortifications were designed by my fellow countryman, gen. Tadeusz Kościuszko. Kościuszko was truly a brilliant military engineer and proved it many times. He also fortified, for instance, West Point.
@@halfstep44 Thanks for the info. Kościuszko is important in history of Poland and Belarus. He was a poor strategist, good tactitian and excellent military engineer, maybe even genius when it comes to military engineering. I think he was ahead of his times by decades when it comes to military engineering. I think the US lacked somebody like him during the american civil war. Have you seen a film Glory? In the end the regiment is sent in suicide assult on fortified confederate possitions. I can't imagine Kościuszko would have given such sensless order. I bet, if he was there, he would have tried military engineering and would dug tunnels into confederates to plant charges there and blow the fort up :D
Good job with the visual presentation and historical content, but someone else should've been handed narration duties. It sounds like I'm listening to Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone.

Gates was better liked by his men and more aggressive than his predecessor, Phillip Schuyler.

Wow. Great job!!
Great video. Well done!
Thanks.
Great video, I'd love to see a battle field map of Bennington.
I portrayed a Hessian mercenary in a reenactment of this battle. It was one of the coolest things I've ever done
You did a really good job on this video! I learned a lot :)
Thanks, glad you think so.
Thanks, kid. This video was helpful.
Glad it helped!
Well done!
Wow very nice animation 👍👍
Thanks
"Great job, Gates. By the way, what happened to that other guy we sent?"
"Who?"
"Benedict Arnold,"
"Never heard of him."

What program did you use, may I ask?
Nice video! How do you edit these?
I make the maps/props in photoshop, and the animations in after effects.

The bridge connecting Albany County to Saratoga County is named for him

Fine job, young man
May I ask what program did you use to make this animated battle map?
How old are you? Cause this is pretty dope
How old are you man
Agreed. Animation was good but the waifish narration is quite distracting.
You didn’t mention that Fraser was killed.

IT'S AWL-BANY

Sent here by President Zelensky of Urkaine speech this past week in DC.
The German's were actually Brunswickers, not Hessians.
Nice job but the mispronunciations are a detractor.
To link this by a blog, this presentation needs to be done professionally by an adult.
