- Ohana at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort is one of the hardest Walt Disney World reservations to get, but is its sister restaurant, Kona Cafe, secretly better? We've sung the praises of this casual table service restaurant for years and wanted to head back to see how it compares to the dining we've recently been reviewing in the Magic Kingdom resort area.
Kona Cafe specializes in Polynesian themed cuisine. They're particularly known for items like sushi, pot stickers and bao buns. There's also a distinctive American flare on the menu with the inclusion of their exemplary Big Kahuna Burger.
The interior decor is supposed to be reminiscent of a Polynesian Island and provides a more modern design style than its neighboring restaurant, Ohana. As you enter the restaurant the blue tile on the floor leads into the sushi bar which is designed to resemble a Pacific Volcano. The lights are decorated with woven baskets that Pacific Islanders use to catch fish, a staple of Polynesian culture.
This video provides a detailed review of Kona Cafe. We tryout their signature dishes, go over the design elements, how this restaurant compares to its neighbors in the Magic Kingdom resort area and see if this is truly one of Walt Disney World's hidden gems.

the food looked really good + casual atmosphere is really lovely for a group. Glad you enjoyed!💚🕊
That pineapple coconut bread pudding is the BEST!!!!
I really enjoy all your videos.
I was just thinking about eating here next week during my trip and your video popped up in my feed 😂 Confirmation 👍
Great Video! Hotels has the best fast and causal dinning connected to the castle
So excited for this video! The Polynesian Hotel is the very first hotel I stayed in at Disney world with my parents in the 1980s! Can’t wait to watch this! ❤️❤️
It's such a special place, we love it so much :)
I've eaten three times at this restaurant and been very happy each time. I do love the sushi, and I always get the pot stickers and wings. I also really like their desserts.
Love the Polynesian resort food! I have to try those potstickers. We recently went to Tambu Lounge to avoid Ohana prices, and it was so nice! Can't beat that Kona press pot coffee. Great vlog! ❤
The potstickers are a must! We absolutely love going to Tambu, we go frequently off camera and always enjoy it- great staff there and love not paying the O'hana price tag! The Kona press pot lives rent free in my head. Thank you so much for watching.
😀love the breakfast there also That bread🥰 pudding is lustrous! controversial or not i agree its all about the atmosphere 🌴
I'd for sure put their breakfast on a top 5 list. Can't go wrong with bread pudding. Everyone values different things about the restaurants, we love a mix of atmosphere and great food.
I think Poly is the only resort in all these years I have yet to go. Food always looks amazing. Glad it's held up all these years!
Bill!!!! You have TO GO.
We love the Polynesian. I would love to do a full week there. It has a very special memory for us when we did go. It’s where we told you guys Christina was pregnant. We watched the magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach and I love Ohana. Kona Café is extremely underrated. And the bread pudding is probably one of my favorite desserts in all of Disney World.
I remember it like it was yesterday! Polynesian is special to us too- great memories eating on our patio watching the fireworks. All the food at the Poly is great.
Hi Sam & Jay 👋 😊! Thank you for sharing your dining experience at Kona Cafe. I have been fortunate to vacation twice to the French Polynesian Islands. Between O'Hana & Kona, their menus do not relate to the Tahitian Island palate. The 2 restaurants appear more Hawaiian. French Polynesia has a strong French & island influence. Local fish, citrus sauces with herbs, the buried roasted pig. The use of large leaves to wrap & steam cook. Your selections look very delicious 😋. Glad you are safe. See you for the next one. 😊 ❤
I think Disney does well with what they have but they definitely aren't the most authentic dishes. Curious if Bread Pudding is big in the Polynesian islands haha We are so grateful to be okay, thanks for watching :) Always enjoy hearing from you.
Great video we were so happy to see you guys last night
Thank you! We love you guys and so happy we got to spend some time with you :)
We love Kona Cafe! We’ve had some lovely food there and we love the atmosphere. It’s a bit of a must do for us. I’m partial to a Lapu Lapu 😊
Such a random question, but Sam, what lip color combo are you wearing?! It’s beautiful!!!! 😍
Have y’all done a best hamburgers series yet? Would love to see that!
I bet the press pot coffee would pair well with that bread pudding.
I distinctly remember the macadamia nut butter 😊
I’m so glad I’m not crazy!
great vid, my wife and I are coming nov 13th, our resturants for dinner are cal grill, narcusses, ohana, and jiko, how about that list, we are at kona for breakfast one morning , staying at contemporary, cant wait,
Do they have a kid's menu ? Looking for a place my son can get chicken fingers while the others enjoy a little more upscale than Captain Cooks
How is the food and decor there?😊😊😊
