    I came to learn how to make hair cards, ended up learning whole new cool features of UV unwrapping in blender that I didn't use for 2 years at my job

    I have to study a way to improve hair cards for the project I'm doing and I went in my study playlist and found this video, this workflow is so interesting, I want to try it.
    I'm watching all the videos and this channel is just gold in hair creation, I'm also seeing your improvment video by video.
    Thank you for learning this and sharing on youtube for everyone.

      Hi! thank you for watching! I love Zbrush and I prefer to do pretty much everything in it so I'm glad I found a new hair styling workflow haha
      And yeah you are absolutely right. I did experiment with updated hair tool system and made some hair but more and more I study about hair styling, I started to feel I don't need all the extra feature hair tool provides and a lot of artist I respect like Johan Lithvall use hair chunk method so it's just that workflow hair tool offers doesn't suit me very well.
      But at the end of the day, it's just my preference so it doesn't change the fact hair tool is amazing adoon for sure.

      Yeah, I noticed you really got into hair styiling. With time I also geting more excited about this part of character creation... And with it I wonder more and more do Maya is needed to reach this "profesional" step in hair styling. Almost every good hair styler use Maya. What do you think ? Are you gonna use it in future or stay w ith blender/zbrush? @@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358

    i wouldnt manually uv all haird cards 1 by 1 just unwrap with 45° degree angle and correct the ones that caught some kind of extra polygon due to angle limit. Z brush 2023 can uv by creased edge so u can crease by angle and UV then uncrease all once the uv are ready. Or a way more optimal can be create the IMM brush with the creased edge already settled then once u finish the hair click uv by creased edge.

      @Lanthiren 3 месяца назад

      Could you do a video short to show how it's done please?

    • @Damian_h
      @Damian_h 3 месяца назад

      @@Lanthiren Sorry im super busy. But watch this u will get all the info u need on how to properly unwrap with creased edges. Pay close attention because he goes a bit fast but he knows what hes doing.
      search this title-
      ZBrush 2023 - UV Map Unwrap, and cut your seams based on your creasing!.
      From Michael Pavlovich. If u want to create an already creased Mesh just watch a regular tut about how to create your own IMM brush then u can set the creased edges there and once is done unwrap it using the previous method from the video. Understand the concept how Z brush detect creased edges as UV seams and combine it with the technique of this video and u maybe can crease BY PG(polygroups) to make it even faster.

    Thanks for the video man. This workflow is quite insteresting, the biggest downside probably is that you gotta do the placing phase without the texture, I feel like for more complex hair styles that would be a very big problem

      Hi Kien! Thank you for watching!
      And yes you are absolutely right.
      For this project I didn't face much of issue since I broke down the main hair structure into several smaller components and made structures one by one.( Create hair cards, send over to blender, apply texture, send it back to Zbrush to make adjustment....) but If I wanted to make much more specific and complex hair style, things will get harder for sure haha

      Hi @@tomcreektomoyaogawa4358 thankd for your videos ! I really like them and you got a nice outcome!. You still can see textures in Zbrush if you want. And that way you dont need to go back and forth with another soft. For not losing your UVs when you apply an insert brush and see your textures you need to ensure to the mesh that are you using your insert mesh (in the case the head) already got UVs too. You can check this video that explains it better: ruclips.net/video/UmMGojnXMb8/видео.html Hope it helps! And nice workflow btw!

    ok what if the hair card is UVed before it was placed on the head? That way the only tedious work would be to align for various textures in the hair sheet/texture atlas

      @@libri6656 hmmm did you assign 3 polygroups to triangular one? If so, then when you use frame mesh by polygroup border, you should be only getting 3 edges where you can use IMM hair brush to get attached to.
      I tried to replicate the same problem that you and another person was having but I couldn't do it , so I'm sorry if I can't be your help.

    hello Tom! Thank you very much for your video.. I've been searching for a way to make hair for a week now, and this approach is really nice. and i'm sorry for my dumb question, i must've missed something. I'm a newby, and i can't understand where you got the texture map in zbrush at 2:25.

      Hi! thank you so much for watching!
      so for the hair texture, I'm using my own custom hair texture and imported to zbrush so if you need hair texture, you will need to either create one yourself using something like xgen or fibershop or you could buy from market place.
      I'm sorry I wasn't really clear about that. :(
