so apparently in spanish interviews Franco has said that the idea of starting on the hards was his, had to convince his team to let him start on hards and also revealed that the reason why he pitted so late was... him. It was him who argued on the radio with his engineer to allow him and go for a really late stop because he found the car still had plenty of pace. So not only can he drive but he also has the wits to come up with his own strategies and the personality to fight his team over it if he thinks its the way to go... i swear each day it passes i am more and more in love with the kid.
I really hope William keeps him as a third driver for next year as I find it hard that Audi will get him vs. Bottas. Franco has proven to be really good for a rookie and I think he can be as good if not better than Piastri!.
What Colapinto has taught me is how refreshing it is to see a genuine talent pop up in F1 after barely being hyped up at all. 90% of the F1 fanbase probably barely knew his name 6 months ago (me included), and now he's one of the most exciting drivers on the grid. It's refreshing to see someone this good effectively pop up out of the blue. Lawson and Piastri, plus now Antoinelli were all hyped up as the next big thing by everyone under the sun. And don't get me wrong - Oscar is incredible, Lawson has shown great promise with his F1 races so far and I expect Kimi to be good too. But it's nice when we haven't hyped up someone for so long that they end up disappointing us or being underwhelming at the start.
Everything you said is spot except regards Piastri - he has only ever been 1/2 boosted by British press and the moment he started showing his talent at McLaren the Brit press is all "he needs to be made #2 Lando is our new Lewis" BS. Can you imagine what the euros would have been saying if a driver who won 3 championships in a row on their way to F1 appeared?
Law, look for Colapinto's answer in Spanish on the press pen after the race. Hilarious and spontaneous. Re Ocon something like "why did he changed the tyres on the last lap? That's wrong, we must conserve the environment ", snd regardin himself convincing Williams to start with hards "well, maybe if I do not have a seat nex year I can be the team's strategist".

I agree that Franco has lit a fire under Albon's butt. I think Franco's outperformance (yes he's done it almost from race 1) is shocking, and I'm here for it.
I don't think the fire has been lit yet. We can say that when Alex starts driving better. Not that he's driving poorly. He just hasn't upped his game as much as he'll need to
Williams is my team and it made me excited seeing all the Williams fans at COTA. A lot of them had their Argentinian flags with them. The future of Williams looks very good!
Imagine having Sainz and Colapinto at Williams with that cash injection they just got. I'm not even a Williams fan but OH MY GOD the team would be 1000% more interesting with that pairing.
I have a feeling Franco is a hidden Gem. He's that quiet employee that no one noticed and never said a word, but when there was a huge issue at work with none of the usual loud mouths having a solution. Out of desperation, they asked rhetorically what he thought, and he laid out a well thought and detailed solution 😂😂😂😂😂😂. Pinto is the man. Give him that Audi seat. I don't want to hear pip about Mick.

Great breakdown. Admittedly I knew nothing of Colapinto, but after watching his racing history(which is fascinating), he's lack of silverware is partly due being promoted consistently ahead of schedule(more due to circumstance than being ready). Every time he was promoted he was just off pace to start with but was winning by the end of the season...then promotion and the cycle starts again. The Enduro racing was a detour but taught him how to make tyres last. Thats key in F1 as Oscar found out. He is definitely one to watch. I'm a fan!
I think Colapinto's success isn't even that surprising if you look at the teams he raced for in junior formula. Let's look at his F3/F2 seasons 2022 F3 Colapinto P9, teammates Ushijima and Villagómez P20 and P25 Colapinto scored 2/2 of VAR's wins, 6/7 podiums and 76/91 points VAR finished P6, would be P9 without Colapinto's points, even if you double Ushijima or Villagómez's points. Anybody who watched this season knows it felt like his orange VAR was a lone team when he was up in the points consistently and his teammates were barely there 2023 F3 Colapinto P4 (also Colapinto got DSQd from a win in Melbourne which would've put him P2), teammates Edgar and Boya P13 and P17 Colapinto scored 2/3 of MP's wins (would have been 3/4 without Melbourne DSQ), 5/6 podiums (6/7 if blah blah you get the point), and 110/194 points MP Motorsport finished P3, would've been P7 without Colapinto's points even if you double Boya's points or P6 if you double Edgar's. Also quite similar as last year where Colapinto was consistently above his teammates and usually you could guess the top MP driver was him and be right 2024 F2 Far less dominant than the others, but still pretty dominant. Colapinto before he left to F1 was P6 with his teammate Hauger (in his 3rd year of F2) in P8 96/179 points, 3/6 podiums and 1/2 wins. Considering that MP Motorsport (aside from Drugovich's absolute domination in 2022) has never really been a title challenger these are solid stats aside an experienced driver Hauger who was a Red Bull Junior His junior career gives very Tsunoda-esque vibes, where he never really had a car to prove himself but was consistently able to contend for points, podiums or wins even when he shouldn't have. Anybody who seriously pays attention to junior formulas can realize that Colapinto always had a lot of potential just like anybody who noticed Tsunoda did
Exactly, the vid had a very shallow take on his past in other Formulas. Like nowadays in F1, he had to beg for a seat and everytime gave more than he was supossed to deliver given the situation and the car itself
My heart would break a little if he ends up in the Red Bull sphere of influence. As an argentinian, seeing Franco on Ferrari red would be the pinnacle of motorsports for me. I daydream about him taking Lewis' seat once he retires.
@@doguipreacher Yeh. Red Bull is not good for young drivers who aren't Max. As for McLaren, I wouldn't mind him there either. I love McLaren but I'm a Ferrari fan. I also thought about Ferrari due to the shared italian heritage with Argentina and the long history of argentine drivers like Fangio in the Scuderia. It's the same feeling of seeing an argentine driver in Williams. It just fits. I also thought that Franco could do well in Haas. I feel like his personality would fit well there better than Sauber. Too bad the seats are taken already.
@@JOSETV1 I'm from Argentina, and have friends from Spain. We can understand each other perfectly, same as with any other hispanic. The idea of Sainz and Colapinto being unable to understand each other is beyond re*ard3d
I don't think Colapinto would disappear if he was put on hold. You've got to take into account the argentinian factor. We follow our people wherever they go. If Colapinto returns later, we will still be there, for sure, he will have the same amount of fans or even more, that's Argentina.
I can translate spanish interviews for you, with actual context and entonation meaning if you want. (a lot of his interviews has funny sarcasm in them so you need to understand not only spanish but argentinian way of speaking). Thanks for the content.
I think that's something that many of these F1 comment-style RUclipsrs/tiktokers lack. Since they're all mostly only English speakers, I swear my heart breaks a little when they only get an almost soulless translation to work with. Franco's incredibly witty if you ask me (the "saving the environment" comment had me laughing hard), but his jokes kinda lose their spark when translated. Argentinians are so funny, I swear. -coming from another latin american

If Albon can’t keep up with Sainz his days are numbered. I like the guy but from Williams’ point of view a Carlos-Franco lineup makes too much sense. I went to the race in Austin and the support for RedBull and Checo was next level - imagine what Williams could pull in Latin America if they have two Spanish speaking drivers. Latin America is a massive market that’s mostly untapped by the sport at large (compared to English speaking markets). Not to mention Williams already has a little pre-existing Latin American cred they can call on from their time with Senna
I believe in Alex, he's just had a bad string of races, he's come back from worse and proved himself to be who he is today. I can just tell that the last few races are not him at full performance, just needs to find his footing. Plus I think why franco is finding success in this team is due to his aggression (which is something the williams' team lacks as a whole) the guy has no fear.
Not sure if Franco is "overhyped" but Alex Albon most certainly is. Yes, Albon did look good against Goatifi and Logibear (which isn't exactly a high bar), however, we should not forget how he crumbled under pressure at Red Bull, where he was rather unceremoniously replaced. Vowles may soon be forced to make a hard choice. Audi don't want Colapinto just "parked" with them for next season and, even more worrying, Dr Helmut Marko has set his eye on Colapinto. The parties interested want to pry him from Williams' clutches. Dorilton may have to cough up a few quid to buy Albon out of his contract and make him go away quietly... not a terrible tradeoff considering the risk of losing the gem that is Franco Colapinto.
People are forgetting that Albon scored more points than Colapinto in the last 4 races its strange Albon started scoring points when Colapinto came in the car It seems that Colapinto came when the Williams Team put things to the car to make it faster
@@BLEON94 A valid observation but Albon is in his 5fth season with 100 races under his belt and there's no denying that he lets the pressure getting at him... again. His desperate team radio in Singapore did not garner him any favours. Rule #1 in this sport is to beat your teammate... whatever it takes. (Unless one is the designated "wingman") Alex was lucky enough to get a second chance in F1 and he did well to demolish Latifi and Logan... but this kid? A very different proposition and he knows it.
@@BLEON94how about the car was good before, but Logie didn't push Alex at all. Now with a hungry new pilot pushing the Williams, Alex also has to push.
@@Miguel-yf4ycWho ever said anything about Williams already being a good car the only reason Sargeant was dropped is because Williams braught major upgrades to his which he completely destroyed they were never goof until when Colapinto arrived
@@nuztuz903 Yes, I'm almost an astronaut. Let's make an average and everyone is happy. Marko certainly wasn't very fast + Marko certainly wasn't slow /2 = Marko certainly was an average pilot. Or what is the same, Marko certainly wasn't very fast.😁😂
Colapinto's widespread hype can be attributed to his unexpected emergence, background, good looks and personality, and the fact that many races take place in regions with large Latin populations. Meanwhile, Albon, having been on the grid for a while, has seen his initial buzz fade and doesn't generate nowhere near the same support from the UK or Thailand.
Add to that his performance. He has yielded points, has made some good moves... he has shown potential in forms that no recent williams driver has done. So, it's not just good looks and personality.
How fun is it to see 2 rookies running and doing well. Although the COTA race was sooooo boring, I really enjoyed seeing these two go head to head. I guess it might reflect the current skill level of the field???
You're right about junior formula. There's so much that makes it's championship standings unreliable to judge quality. The cars aren't equal, teams have differences in quality with setup, there is a MASSIVE mechachrome engine lottery, differences in funding affects quality of parts etc etc. Bearman is 14th in F2 and people called him a British bias pay driver for getting a Haas seat but on day 1 he outqualified Hulkenberg, a top 6/7 driver this season. The F1 teams have data testing drivers in their own F1 cars, you think Ferrari would put so much faith and time and effort into a low tier F2 driver? Similar thing with the Antonelli situation at Mercedes, "he's worse than Aaron, look at the standings!" If Mercedes determined that through their own private testing they'd be promoting him not Kimi
I get what you're saying but both Antonelli and Bearman drive for prema, one of the best funded F2 teams, I doubt engine was their biggest problem. Antonelli even with this managed to get into the F2 standings top 10 in his first year, even won races.
Although I don't feel like Bearman is all that. Maybe a new giovanassi, but not championship winning potential. Franco in a Williams already reached 8th when Bearman got to 7th in a Ferrari.
@andreoliver4449 bearman finished 6th in F2 last year as a rookie and won like 4 races, he's also won races and taken pole this season. Unless you think he forgot how drive then you wouldn't take F2 seriously
If Colapinto continues to keep Albon honest and continues to beat him every now and then for the rest of the season, I don't think that bodes well for Alex when Sainz arrives next year. Colapinto has hit the ground running since entering F1 and one has to imagine that psychologically that is going to have a negative impact on Albon. It feels like 2025 is gonna be a make or break year for Alex.
RUclips has an auto-translate feature from any language to English; you can use that to understand those interviews (it's in the video settings: Subtitles / CC). For context, Franco is the stereotypical extrovert, a self-assured Argentinian with his feet on the ground who does not overstate his self-confidence; he's really funny. Also for a sample, go and watch Williams own podcast hosted by Alex.
yeah, the thing is you can translate it all you want, is still complicated to understand our humor, most of the spanish interviews are with juan fosarolli ,an argentinian journalist that works for espn, thats why their interviews are gold!!!when franco said "this french dude" he wasnt being mean or something like that,is because of the world cup ,just jokes between friends
LawVs has completely bought Colapinto stocks lmao. Interested in who you would back if there was ever a situation for a Colapinto and Piastri title fight

the best thing that can happen now with Franco is staying at Williams. Sauber sounds depressing. If he continues to Improve, ends 2024 on a high note, and starts next year as a backup driver, he will be the most wanted and desirable driver. Albon will be sandwiched between Colapinto and Sainz...I don't think he will manage to end 2025 at Williams. I believe Albon didn't expected this at all. He looks now like a boxer in his corner trying to keep it together after a brutal round. Colapinto is not only talented, he has something that Albon doesn't have and cannot be bought: charisma. That translates into clicks, money, which happens to be F1's main objective.
Hey Law, unrelated to the video, but you made me laugh as goku and gohan some years ago, and now you keep me up to date with very educated opinions about the sport that I love. So, thank you very much! (end of the corny message)
South American driver that is very good (as by Perez comment), loved by media with huge social media following. Red Bull what's your excuse now? GIVE HIM A SEAT!
Colapinto's done a really good job so far. Even if he doesn't get the Sauber seat he surely hasn't done his future prospects any harm, wherever he goes on to race.
Yeah and I don’t understand it lol, colapinto has beat him twice and Alex was screwed over by strategy and Ocon this race and literally DNFED in the other race.
We have been hearing for 2 years that Albon is a top driver and outperforming the car just because he has been facing the absolute worst of F1 drivers. Not to mention that the guy is a crybaby (remember the famous "they race me so hard"?). It's a breath of fresh air to see Franco expose him.
Lol. Ive been reading these comments of being a Williams fan since a kid. Ive been a Williams fan since Nigel drove for them. Especially that FW14B in 1992. Loved those battles with him and my guy Senna 😊
Sadly, he didn’t perform well at Interlagos. But there’s a transmission in which he asked the engineers to put him on Full Wet tyres, but they pitted him TWICE to put Inter. Like 10 seconds after he exit the pit stop, surprised that he got inter AGAIN after he requested full wet, he crashed. I mean, almost no one on the race was using full wet, but he is a non expert driver on one of the most difficult races of the season (if not, if many seasons), they SHOULD’VE LISTENED to the one who’s in the car. I hope he comes back stronger! ❤️
TBH I feel albon will be dropped half next year or in 2026 for franco, Franco fits so well with Williams operation that I realisticly don't see him in another midfield team
I think it would be better for Franco to stay at Williams as a reserve driver because I'm seeing Carlos wipe the floor with Albon in 2025 and Franco get the seat in 2026.
@@BLEON94Ricciardo performance dropped like rock at McLaren. You would imagine a multi GP winner should wipe the floor with Yuki but that just says more about Daniel than anyone
i watch f1 since i was 6 and my dream was to have a driver from my country competing in f1 and now that it is a reality you get to see how much of a sleeping giant argentina was as a fan base. interlagos will be amazing just by how much passionate fans well be there. i hope colapinto stays in touch within f1 in 2025 if not they will be losing out on the most passionate market in the whole world
I think Colapinto has a kind of natural charisma and seems immune to the pressure of F1, something you simply can´t train (and also having fun racing, something we didn´t see much since Danny Ric early days) His race in Baku proved that. How many rookies or even experienced drivers have had a crash in FP1 or FP2 and then drove conservatively the rest of the weekend disappearing into the midpack? But not Colapinto. He matched his teammates time in a circuit he didn´t know and was there to get some extra points in the race when drivers in front of him collided. The Austin GP was the same. He kept his cool during the race while everyone around him was spinning and managed to get some positions, and when it was time to defend against Checho or Magnussen we stuck his elbows out. Hope we can keep seeing the guy develop. Also his interviews in Spanish are hilarious and so natural, but sadly I think the team will reel him in a bit for PR reasons. Last time he said Ocon shouldn´t have pitted for the fastest lap and save some rubber to help save the planet 😂
Is it possible we were rating albon highly too early? His teammates have been latifi and Sargeant, not exactly a great comparison. But when a rookie like Franco comes along who's actually doing better... It really does make you question if we were overrating Albon simply cuz he was outperforming mid drivers.
Alex should definetly worry. Seeing Colapinto do this well really makes us question if Alex actually is as good as we thought or if Colapinto is just a talent who really showed his best once he got into F1
Franco did come in during a Williams upgrade package that has worked well. While Alex should be worried, he shouldn’t be worried about Franco, he should be worried about Sainz.
Actually no, only Albon got the upgrade. Franco run his first two races without the upgrade. It's in Singapore Williams gave him the upgrade. It's all in the interviews.
@@projectneich4415 I mean in the sense that it wasn’t the same spec Williams that Logan started with at the beginning of the season. What Franco did, especially in Baku was incredibly impressive.
Just the fact that Franco is near Albon should be worrying. Albon has been on that Williams team as the leader since 2022, he cant have a mid season swap rookie comd in and be near his performances. He should be cleafly beating him and he ia far from doing that; this USA GP is the first weekend where nothing went wrong on the car or on the team and Franco was just better (again, as a mid-season swap rookie, not even full 20olus races and testing weekend rookie)
@@GangsterJoey Colapinto's car had exactly the same components that Logan had in the Dutch Grand Prix. The difference is Logan crashed the car while Colapinto finished 12th (starting 18th) and then finished 8th and scoring 4 points. In just two races Franco already outscore Logan, who had more than 30 races on his back. You can't compare Franco with Logan who never had the mentality to be competitive in F1.
Lawson finished higher than Franco because he happened to be in a better position of the track to avoid the Albon-Ocon crash ath the start. He also ran a fabulous race, so props to him, too.
This is what I have bee saying. Albon looks great when compared to Sargent, but he has finally found a real challenge in Colapinto. Compare Albon's performance with capable drivers, and he does not appear to be as good as people think he is. He also seems to be happy just flying under the radar with the attention focused somewhere else. I can't wait to see how he will compare to Sainz, and if he will have the same mediatic scrutiny as Checo.
As an Argentinian myself, I cannot believe how much recognition he’s getting, it’s crazy! The biggest proof of the impact he’s made is the fact that the official F1 account as well as the Williams one have started posting things in Spanish!! Me and my brother had been watching him on f2 this year, and I am so happy everyone is giving him the recognition he deserves, we always knew he was good. Hopefully he’ll get a seat for next year, and if not, then 2026, let’s pray🙏🏻 And I fully agree that it would be so much better for him to stay at Williams than go to Sauber. Or even Red Bull, since their academy isn’t exactly the most welcoming for rookies.. In Williams he could keep learning about the car, and he could build a good bond with the team, plus with Carlos, who im sure is gonna teach him a thing or two
James Vowles deserves all the praise in the world for pulling the plug on Logan and plugging in Franco. Franco deserves all the praise in the world for grabbing the chance with both hands and upstaging everyone's expectations. I hope this is just scratching the surface of his potential and that it's not a flash in the pan.
Given that Argentina is almost the only growth market on the entire south American continent at the moment, it would be a great move for the VW-group to put him in the Sauber.
I am placing F1 drivers into 6 different tiers: S: Among the sport's greats, best in their generations A: Elite drivers, can win championships in a competitive car B: Good drivers, either a midfield leader or a reliable wingman C: Okay drivers, good enough to be in F1, but easily replaceable D: Mid drivers, barely good enough to be in F1, a lot of better options outside F: F1 is just not for them As for the 2024 drivers (left is better) S: Hamilton (prime), Verstappen, Alonso (prime) A: Leclerc, Ricciardo (prime), Russell, Norris B: Bottas, Hulkenberg, Sainz, Piastri, Ocon, Gasly, Perez C: Albon, Tsunoda, Magnussen D: Stroll, Zhou F: Sargeant As you can see, I placed Albon on C tier and Sainz on B tier. If a rookie Colapinto is B tier already, he can easily go up to A tier, maybe even S tier. Sainz, who is firmly a B tier driver, will be the real test for Albon, who destroyed his F tier teammates, but got destroyed by his S tier one.
@@t0p-D I’d give Piastri another year to see if he can go up a tier. Because unlike race craft, tire management, etc.. a driver reaches his peak pace pretty early in his career. Leclerc, for example, had the most poles in 2019 in the second fastest car, despite being only in his second year. I don’t think he has gotten much faster since then, but he has improved his other attributes by a lot. Piastri is on average slower than Norris in both qualifying pace and race pace, and Norris is barely on A tier.
@@karussoul "a driver reaches his peak pace pretty early in his career." you say. Well how about Mansell? Button? Hakkinen? Some of F1s greatest drivers didn't reach their peak until later on in their careers.
@@JC-lu4se peak pace ≠ peak ability I didn’t watch some of those drivers, but specifically Button, he simply had a competitive car after 10 years in F1. Verstappen was already faster than Ricciardo in his third season, he was just too reckless in his first 4 seasons. Same goes for Hamilton, Vettel, and so on.
Albon complaining about hard racing stems from STR drivers pushing RBR hard when he was likely told not to compromise RBR when he was in that STR seat. On another note, Albon NEEDS to ouscore and outrace Franco until the end of the season. If he doesn't, the door will be open for his exit.
The only thing I think is absolutely hilarious is that just two months ago, people were mad at James for bringing in Franco and how this was a horrible idea. And now we're here. So yeah, these instant reactions don't really mean much in the end
I agree with the notion of Franco staying at Williams and truthfully i think he wants to stay at Williams. The only other up and coming driver that gets touted in the Williams academy is Luke Browning (GBR) who was in F3 at the start of this year but then gets promoted to F2 for the last few races because of Franco being promoted to F1.
My guess as to your idea that some juniors that do decent can be better in F1 - I think that it comes from actually having to fight there. Some of the most impressive juniors have flopped in F1 - and I think that's because, for the first time in years, they aren't in the first or second best car. You could even argue that Piastri may have had some of his reputation saved/boosted by McLaren's ascent - finishing two places behind a teammate is much more impressive when you are still finishing p3/p5, for example, rather than p15-17. Many f2 champions are in amazing cars, and while that doesn't mean their achievements are invalid, it does mean that their experience in f2 may not reflect their transition to a backmarker / midfield F1 team - George going to Williams felt that for sure lol
These races must be looked at in the cold light of pure performance. If Franco has clearly outperformed Alex by the end of the year then a decision will need to be made.
Ive been a Willians fan since I was a little kid watching Mansell and Hill, and honestly... I do wish it was Sainz/Colapinto next year. Zero hate for Albon though, he has been grinding away in a team struggling and has had some good results and progression - but F1 moves on constantly. More realistically though in 2027 when Sainz and Albon have gone hopefully Colapinto can be our point to build around then
I have been loving Franco since day one with the team. I think he has that ‘je ne sais quoi’ that makes people drawn to him. after his third race is when I started thinking about his debut in comparison to Oscar‘s and thought damn this kid is good. I hope he stays in William’s and is the reserve for next year because, with the way it looks now at least, I think there’s a chance Alex could loose his seat mid season to Franco next year cause I expect Carlos to easily outperform Alex. Franco and Carlos are now my William’s dream team 🥹 I wonder if at the end of the season everyone will be saying “wonder if James is upset he resigned Alex before Franco came in?” 🫢 last thing; I expect/am hoping Franco will do well in Mexico and Brazil since I think he’ll have a lot of fan support at the track - I know Mexico is Checo land but with the way Franco is performing I’m hoping at least some will back him there 😅
Excellent report! I'm Argentine and I'm really sorry that you can't understand the interviews in Spanish, because you would have a lot of fun. We Argentines are hoping to see a driver at the top again. Thanks for remembering two great drivers like Fangio and Reutemann!
Hi, first video from your channel that I saw, obviuosly, because of Colapinto! I agree, I want him to stay in Willimas, but only if the team secured him a seat in 2026. Seeing in the video that Albon signed a multi year contract (I don´t know how many years Sainz's contract with WIlliams is, but I suppose it sure is for more than one year), one year for improving in the team nest would be great, but those wings need to be flying by 26. Cheers from Argentina (an sorry for my bad english!)
I love alex albon, but I do think Williams should replace him with colapinto. Not only has Franco out performed him, but as an Argentinian driver he brings more to the team in terms of sponsors and I also think that his clear knack for strategy like Carlos would mean that he and Sainz would bring invaluable information and feedback to the team while they are attempting to project themselves into a more competitive team. Also, having two Spanish speaking drivers would tap into a huge market and provide a lot of opportunities that Alex can’t.

No question, Alex has to step up. Franco is younger, and more commercially backed.

Bro…. Franco’s Spanish interviews are pure gold….

Let's look at his F3/F2 seasons
2022 F3
Colapinto P9, teammates Ushijima and Villagómez P20 and P25
Colapinto scored 2/2 of VAR's wins, 6/7 podiums and 76/91 points
VAR finished P6, would be P9 without Colapinto's points, even if you double Ushijima or Villagómez's points. Anybody who watched this season knows it felt like his orange VAR was a lone team when he was up in the points consistently and his teammates were barely there
2023 F3
Colapinto P4 (also Colapinto got DSQd from a win in Melbourne which would've put him P2), teammates Edgar and Boya P13 and P17
Colapinto scored 2/3 of MP's wins (would have been 3/4 without Melbourne DSQ), 5/6 podiums (6/7 if blah blah you get the point), and 110/194 points
MP Motorsport finished P3, would've been P7 without Colapinto's points even if you double Boya's points or P6 if you double Edgar's. Also quite similar as last year where Colapinto was consistently above his teammates and usually you could guess the top MP driver was him and be right
2024 F2
Far less dominant than the others, but still pretty dominant. Colapinto before he left to F1 was P6 with his teammate Hauger (in his 3rd year of F2) in P8
96/179 points, 3/6 podiums and 1/2 wins. Considering that MP Motorsport (aside from Drugovich's absolute domination in 2022) has never really been a title challenger these are solid stats aside an experienced driver Hauger who was a Red Bull Junior
His junior career gives very Tsunoda-esque vibes, where he never really had a car to prove himself but was consistently able to contend for points, podiums or wins even when he shouldn't have.
People definitely underrate how he was doing in f2- seems like the field is quite strong this year as well with how many have got F1 drives
When you write a comment that long, most people won't read it.
Even if it is well thought out and thorough.
Colapinto is better than Tsunoda will ever be.

My heart would break a little if he ends up in the Red Bull sphere of influence. As an argentinian, seeing Franco on Ferrari red would be the pinnacle of motorsports for me. I daydream about him taking Lewis' seat once he retires.

As for McLaren, I wouldn't mind him there either. I love McLaren but I'm a Ferrari fan. It's the same feeling of seeing an argentine driver in Williams. It just fits.
I also thought that Franco could do well in Haas. I feel like his personality would fit well there better than Sauber. Too bad the seats are taken already.

With Senna, Piquet, Reutemann, Fangio and a long etc...
Even Pastor Maldonado. As inconsistent as he was, he gave the team its last victory. Last Williams winner.
@@BLEON94 A valid observation but Albon is in his 5fth season with 100 races under his belt and there's no denying that he lets the pressure getting at him... again.
Albon was hyped up quite hard last season, there were even rum pours of him at Ferrari?
Add to that his performance. He has yielded points, has made some good moves... he has shown potential in forms that no recent williams driver has done. So, it's not just good looks and personality.

@andreoliver4449 you must not rate Hulkenberg at all then cause he was matched by Bearman immediately

If Colapinto continues to keep Albon honest and continues to beat him every now and then for the rest of the season, I don't think that bodes well for Alex when Sainz arrives next year. Colapinto has hit the ground running since entering F1 and one has to imagine that psychologically that is going to have a negative impact on Albon. the best thing that can happen now with Franco is staying at Williams. I think Colapinto has a kind of natural charisma and seems immune to the pressure of F1, something you simply can´t train (and also having fun racing, something we didn´t see much since Danny Ric early days)
His race in Baku proved that.

He should be cleafly beating him and he ia far from doing that; this USA GP is the first weekend where nothing went wrong on the car or on the team and Franco was just better (again, as a mid-season swap rookie, not even full 20olus races and testing weekend rookie)

Hopefully he’ll get a seat for next year, and if not, then 2026, let’s pray🙏🏻
And I fully agree that it would be so much better for him to stay at Williams than go to Sauber. Or even Red Bull, since their academy isn’t exactly the most welcoming for rookies.. In Williams he could keep learning about the car, and he could build a good bond with the team, plus with Carlos, who im sure is gonna teach him a thing or two
As an Albon fan you’ll have no hate from me. Sadly, you speak the truth.
At least I can be a proud Kiwi with how Lawson’s performing!
I am placing F1 drivers into 6 different tiers:
S: Among the sport's greats, best in their generations
A: Elite drivers, can win championships in a competitive car
B: Good drivers, either a midfield leader or a reliable wingman
C: Okay drivers, good enough to be in F1, but easily replaceable
D: Mid drivers, barely good enough to be in F1, a lot of better options outside
F: F1 is just not for them
As for the 2024 drivers (left is better)
S: Hamilton (prime), Verstappen, Alonso (prime)
A: Leclerc, Ricciardo (prime), Russell, Norris
B: Bottas, Hulkenberg, Sainz, Piastri, Ocon, Gasly, Perez
C: Albon, Tsunoda, Magnussen
D: Stroll, Zhou
F: Sargeant
As you can see, I placed Albon on C tier and Sainz on B tier. If a rookie Colapinto is B tier already, he can easily go up to A tier, maybe even S tier. Sainz, who is firmly a B tier driver, will be the real test for Albon, who destroyed his F tier teammates, but got destroyed by his S tier one.
Piastri is certainly showing A tier potential especially at his age
@@t0p-D I’d give Piastri another year to see if he can go up a tier. Because unlike race craft, tire management, etc.. a driver reaches his peak pace pretty early in his career.
Leclerc, for example, had the most poles in 2019 in the second fastest car, despite being only in his second year. I don’t think he has gotten much faster since then, but he has improved his other attributes by a lot.
Piastri is on average slower than Norris in both qualifying pace and race pace, and Norris is barely on A tier.
If Albon is C tier, then Perez is D tier. lmao!
@@karussoul "a driver reaches his peak pace pretty early in his career." you say. Well how about Mansell? Button? Hakkinen? Some of F1s greatest drivers didn't reach their peak until later on in their careers.
@@JC-lu4se peak pace ≠ peak ability
I didn’t watch some of those drivers, but specifically Button, he simply had a competitive car after 10 years in F1.
Verstappen was already faster than Ricciardo in his third season, he was just too reckless in his first 4 seasons. Same goes for Hamilton, Vettel, and so on.
his looks and demeanour reminds more of Senna than Max
Strive to drive? Damn someone should make a Netflix special about that
Albon complaining about hard racing stems from STR drivers pushing RBR hard when he was likely told not to compromise RBR when he was in that STR seat.
On another note, Albon NEEDS to ouscore and outrace Franco until the end of the season. If he doesn't, the door will be open for his exit.
Waiting for 🇧🇷 to be back on the grid again... Hopefully on the podium... Maybe a drivers title.
It's been a while. A long while. 😢
The only thing I think is absolutely hilarious is that just two months ago, people were mad at James for bringing in Franco and how this was a horrible idea. And now we're here. So yeah, these instant reactions don't really mean much in the end
The only people who were mad at James for bringing in Franco were butthurt Americans
Man, they race him so hard 😢
Poor Albon, he’s never going to live that down lolol
Great video keep it up you're doing amazing things 😁👍
These races must be looked at in the cold light of pure performance. If Franco has clearly outperformed Alex by the end of the year then a decision will need to be made.
The same said to De Vries and look where he ended up
@@BLEON94 Franco is 21 Nick is 28
Excelente video! Vamosss Franco
Ive been a Willians fan since I was a little kid watching Mansell and Hill, and honestly... I do wish it was Sainz/Colapinto next year.
Zero hate for Albon though, he has been grinding away in a team struggling and has had some good results and progression - but F1 moves on constantly.
More realistically though in 2027 when Sainz and Albon have gone hopefully Colapinto can be our point to build around then
I wasn't a kid but I enjoyed Nigels battles with Senna
franco is the future .. let's go ! vamos ! 🇦🇷🇦🇷
19:16 that journalist treated Franco as "irrelevant" in F2
Did he really?
Enserio?
@@LawVS look for Argentinian newspaper "La Nación" title "Qué pasó entre Colapinto y Martin Brundle, que generó el enojo del piloto argentino"
Franco and Carlos are now my William’s dream team 🥹 I wonder if at the end of the season everyone will be saying “wonder if James is upset he resigned Alex before Franco came in?” 🫢
last thing; I expect/am hoping Franco will do well in Mexico and Brazil since I think he’ll have a lot of fan support at the track - I know Mexico is Checo land but with the way Franco is performing I’m hoping at least some will back him there 😅
Excellent report! I'm Argentine and I'm really sorry that you can't understand the interviews in Spanish, because you would have a lot of fun. We Argentines are hoping to see a driver at the top again. Thanks for remembering two great drivers like Fangio and Reutemann!
Nothing to worry about. One can only be so good in a Williams, let's be real. Let's not pretend Sainz is gonna start claiming podiums in the Williams.
Just so you know, Colapinto had to disable the differential because it was oversteering , he did 70 laps with a raw F1
I think Alex is a good driver but he seriously needs to rise to the occasion if he wants to remain in the sport
I do see colapinto to get seat mid season next year. Either in Williams or RB.
Nah Red Bull is gonna ruin him. He doesnt need to be anywhere near Helmut Marko or Horn Dog
Rb will get Lawson. Colapinto prolly won’t get seat until 2026
7:12 was incredibly incredible.
Franco to Red Bull next season would be optimal, Max would welcome that.
You idiot he only out preformed him in one race idiot he scored less points then Albon IDIOT
Idiot
