That is called "chambfering" (the bit where you're taking off a bit of the finish and preventing breakout), and is a important step in the process of many wood and metalworking projects.
Perhaps a tad deeper than I'd go on the string-thru holes, but damn that's one fine guitar for the $.

people dont realise that all the Chinese made guitars these days are all CNC cut at the same row of factories in the same area. they've got it down to a formula. they pump em all out and put the decal of choice from the Western business thats paying them. a pickup change and a rewiring, decent switchcraft parts and you've got a gigging guitar. I've got a $200 J-Bass thats light as a feather and plays beautifully all over the neck. we live in the golden age of "beginner" guitars

I had a Friend back in 1978 and he Bought fender Neck and strat body used pots got his picks New he had a set of good Tuners . And it sounded better than anything Fender custom shop ever did. Back then alot of us pieced our Guitars together .

  • @MashaT22
    @MashaT22 11 месяцев назад +3

Btw, this really is a beautiful guitar. Makes you realize how much other major companies overcharge - even if you take it into account that the tuners and electronics would be better from a major brand, they get DEEP discounts on those parts for buying in massive bulk. Imagine Fender doing a Squier like this with branded parts and electronics. Or Epiphone. If a little unknown company can do a gorgeous guitar with beautiful wood for rock bottom prices, clearly . . . well, makes ya think how much the big boys mark up their guitars and WHY that might be. 🤔
I think Sean needs to get a bulk deal with Seymour Duncan, btw. He uses a lot of those bad boys! Would love to see Sean try those Fishman Fluence pickups - it would make for hilarious content watching him try to get it wired up cause I’ve heard they’re super confusing, lol. But I do wonder what he thinks anyway. 😂😂😂

Hey sport, i am a sinestral, and as such my choices are limited. I have a bucket list to play the greatest song ever on my 70th birthday, so i bought a Cozart cherry double neck, (not white in case some dropkicks get the song confused), and it is Great! had my luthier mate go over it, he did a bit of fret levelling, and a full set up. I changed both sets of pups to Bryan Williams double neck MSG 73's (these absolutely get the original "hollow chirp"!) put CTS 500k pots, emerson .22k PIO's, rewired the whole thing with switchcraft switches, (one a 4 / 2 switch) and turned the 3rd switch into an A ,B or AB output to a stereo jack, so using a Y cable you can run each neck to a different amp. This guitar is bloody fantastic! Needs a new nut on each neck, and i will change out the tuners, the stock are reasonable. The 12 string neck is the same width as the 6, which takes some getting used to, but for the price, i think around $300 it is definitely a winner! Cozart do a pretty good job, a great modding platform. Oh, forgot to mention i sheilded everywhere with copper tape sheilding. Looking at the 12 string Tele, rout out for p90's!

I have bought several Cozarts over the years, and still have some of them.
The doublenecks are excellent, but you have to swap out the pickups, and move the tailpieces over a bit, then it's identical to the no longer built Epiphone EDS-1275. terrific necks, mahogany body, well balanced.
That's the set-neck one, but if you can find the original bolt on version, it's a screamer, but it's about 25 lbs of solid maple body. It needs NOTHING, but unless you are built like Wolfgang Van Halen, forget it, it's like having a forklift strapped onto your shoulder.
For the money, it's probably the best thing online. Keep the "good" stuff at home, and take the Cozart to the gig instead.
Never had an issue with shipping, broken/parts falling off, the only real weak spot was the pickups, and that was mainly on the newer doublenecks.
That was 5-6 years ago, I imagine the quality has probably gotten even better by now.
Glad to see a review on these things.

Paulownia is from the Empress tree that grows in Western China. It is basically a boat and furniture wood. Since a Telecaster's tone mostly comes from its pickups and design, it can be built from non-tone woods like Pine and other cheap woods with little loss in tone.

  • @57stratkat

I've owned over 75 electric guitars over a 50+ year period, from Gibson's to vintage Fender's to Steinberger's and all points in between. As much as I hate to admit it, some of the guitars coming out of China now are killer guitars at give away prices. The Eart brand strats and tele's are great - roasted maple necks, compound radius fretboards, perfectly dressed stainless frets, even decent pickups and tuners all for around $400. I now own three - a strat style, a tele, and a semi-hollow tele custom version. I play them more than any of my other guitars, which is kind of depressing in a way. US manufacturers should be worried although there will always be guys that care about the name and are willing to pay an extra $3-4K for it. I work too hard for that. Sterling is making killer guitars too.

  • @jameslanclos568
    @jameslanclos568 11 месяцев назад +1

It looks really nice and too love the binding. That's one of the cosmetic reasons that I like Gibson's more than Fender's, because you rarely see binding on a Fender.
Besides new tuners, one of the first things I would mod, would be the pickups. I'd like to have a coil splitter for the humbucker bridge position.
I noticed that the string ferrules are not flush mounted. I'm sure that it's the proper method but it seems like it would be better flush mounted ??? Just asking, not trying to find fault.

Hey Sean-just checked out your channel for the first time yesterday and subbed. I must say that's a pretty nice Tele copy that you put together with the mods. Congrats on selling it, I wasn't even looking for it, was just scoping out the Cozarts on ebay. I was semi-interested in it but it would've been nice to hear how it did with a real clean tone too. It did sound great with the semi-dirt on it thought, very Stonesy.

I really want a Humbucker bridge for a Tele. I can find a Tele at Marlers with a Medium C Tele neck. That is COZART? If I can find one with a Humbucker rout, I could buy a Seymour Duncan and a Tele bridge. I don’t want to mess with my (50s) Fender. But the SD Humbucker and string through just made it the best Tele I’ve ever heard. I mean it. It sounds so good.

That mystery metal you were talking about on the rear pickup? It's pure Chinesium! It's what you get when you take all the scrap metal laying around (who cares what it is!), heat up a container to a high temp, and toss it all in and give it a stir! As long as it melts, it's in there! Steel, aluminum, brass, zinc...it's in there!

Excellent video, really enjoyed watching what you did. Love your channel.
FYI - I have a US made Fender Strat and G+L ASAT but a couple years ago picked up a Squier CV Butterscotch Tele. Love the guitar and upgraded ALL the electronics EXCEPT the pups. CRL switch, CTS pots, cloth pushback wire and Switchcraft jack. This is my number one now. I certainly can't think I would spend over a $1K more to get a US made one.
I found that just those items made a great deal of difference in the tone of my guitar. So much so that I haven't found the desire to buy a new pup. BUT, I found a cheap, brand new Fender 4-way switch so that will be my next upgrade.

A little tip for the tape mark; Use a skinny strip of tape and wrap it around the bit where it comes together on the other side, forming something akin to a flag. Then, when you drill, it will blow the saw dust away. Maybe not quite at that speed, but perhaps a little. Anywho... Sweet guitar, man. Great stuff!

It stays in tune, plays GREAT, and it looks nice.
    Wood has been stable too.
I have plenty of high end guitars.
You cant beat em for the price, and im sure its pretty cool to be building guitars in southeast Asia compared to other stuff.
For a beginner, you cant beat it, and you can ALWAYS get the money back on re sale.
You can mod them, learn luthiery, and id gig on them.

Have bought and built many tele & strat not sure if that much gained by traditional backload vs topload bridge. Even tried the $$$ Glendale ferrules. Leaning to it being like the tonewood bull. Would have liked an A B electric sound pre & post upgraded otherwise nice video.Just my opinion.

Thanks for the review, I've looked at a couple different Cozart models that looked great. I just wasn't sure of quality. Would be great for modding.

That guitar looks pretty good compared to the Cozart double-cut Tele I bought a few years back... It was FRICKIN' DISASTER. I had to reposition the bridge because it was crooked and off-center. I also had to re-rout the pickup cavity (which was the reason why the bridge plate was off) and plug and re-drill the string-through holes. The control cavity also had to be re-routed in order to fit full-size CTS pots in there. The neck was a nightmare. Wonky frets all up and down the fretboard, and they had "rolled" the fretboard edges by running a screwdriver up and down the neck (AFTER the frets had been installed). I just ditched the neck completely and replaced it with an Allparts neck.
Surprisingly, the body actually had a trans-white nitro finish (on a heavy, multi-piece Ash body), but it was the sloppiest finish I'd ever seen. Sags and runs all over the place. I considered refinishing the body, but decided to just sand and buff out the more heinous runs.
Of course, the pickups (and the hardware) were trash. I put a set of Custom Shop '51 NoCasters in it, and Wilkinson tuners. In the end, it was a decent guitar, but man, it needed a LOT of work.
A friend of mine bought the same guitar at the same time I did, and I had to fix his up as well. So it wasn't that I just got a bad one. His guitar had all the same issues that mine did.
At the time, I thought: "Meh... what can you expect for $120?", but I think I would have been better off buying a Squier Bullet Tele for $99. Except the only reason I bought the Cozart was because it was a double-cut, and you couldn't get that body type without dropping $1,600 on the Limited Edition Fender that was out at the time (or having one custom made).

I like the body wood. They got a standard tele without the cap that looks really nice.

    Better than fender
Proceeds to take the neck off. Changes the pickups, drills new holes in every part of the guitar, adds new hardware. K man...

More cheap and affordable guitars need to have nice veneers. It adds some class. One of the prettiest telecasters I’ve seen reviewed.

I got to tell you Shaun I bought one of those couple of years ago spent 99 bucks a beautiful green flame veneer top HH set up string through and that thing just plays and sound amazing. It’s one of my main guitars. I don’t give a shit what it says on the headstock that guitar is awesome, the headstock is just a little different

That looks nice. Too nice for $147 but manufacturing methods have improved. If the components are ok and the wood doesnt warp it will be a winner

My top loaded HB tele had partially drilled holes in the body, so I finished the job to make it a string thru.

Picked up a couple of the Strat style based on this recommendation. One sixxer, and one twelve string. I'll do similar mods and see how they hold up. I'll probably upgrade all electronics along with tuners and STILL be under $400 for each guitar, and that's a steal if they live up to this review. If not, I'm sure I can at least get my money back based on the upgrades. Thanks for the heads up.

The code to making great but affordable guitars was cracked a while ago, I am beyond happy with my World Music ( Korean) made guitars PRS SE line, LTD, Agile Les Paul killer and many others. 4 x the price of this one though. This looks like a fantastic value . I’ve been looking for “tele” to add to the harem. I am all about mods and pick up swaps !

Hey there, so I up'n bought one and it's pretty good. Some new strings intonation...but why all the drill'n? does it change the tone in some way? or are you just go'n semi full Fender? I don't know how they do it, even with cheap labor, what with shipping and even a cheap case, strap...and just try get'n a finish like that on your first try. It's Heck of light too. Neck is thin and easy to play. Crazy cheap. So what about the drill'n?

      ^^^
I owned a brand new 1977 CBS Era Fender Telecaster (USA) for 23+ years, until almost 2001
The drilling & "ferrules" he put in allow it to be "strung thru the body" as my Olympic White Ash one was
It helps with stability of tuning & gives the strings MORE length (slightly) that just going thru the bridge only
I understand fully as to why he did it - It's just a traditional Fender (Tele') thing.
Also, I MUCH prefer the 'Block Saddles' as my Tele' came with the older triple (only) bridge saddles

I bought a Cozart a few years back. The "flame maple veneer" was literally a thick plastic cap, and it looked it. No idea how it played because the thick plastic cap arrived broken, with a shred-your-arm sharp plastic edge raised about a sixteenth across most of the upper body, but I will say that literally everything on the guitar screamed cheap. No thanks.
