The last I check Sean the 10.4 means the impedance of the pickup is hot. I used to work at the guitar center years ago. Working there was ass but the master luthier there was an amazing dude mike, he showed a few things. From I built my own les paul model copy. Hope that helps.
When I started playing guitar I was told don't even look at the trust rod! Don't even try to set the intonation! I'm 65 and I've been playing guitar forever. The guitars I have now I have had for 40 years; never touched any of them... With you Sean, I learn to level my frets and set up my guitars and boy where they way out. thank you! For teaching me you guys are great
I've only been in the guitar world for about 7 months. I have to say I came across your channel and started watching. Ive gone back and watched every post you have done. Great job. I have learned more from you than any other person on RUclips. I can now set my own guitars up. From string changes, intonation to fret work. My buddies are asking me to do theirs. I just wanted to say I really enjoy watching you and Kathy. Please keep the great videos coming. Thank you for all your videos.
I had two good laughs from this and I'm not even halfway through. The first was when it went to "technical difficulties" and RUclips went to an ad. The timing of that couldn't have been better. The second was when Sean revealed the big hole under the neck plate and Cathy said "don't go sticking your fingers in there" and Sean replied "you know I HAVE to!" That was pure gold!
The back and forth between y'all adds great entertainment to great education. Guitar sounds awesome. Excellent work on the guitar, Sean. Outstanding work on the pickups, Cathy. Great video, y'all.
I told some of the most talented guitarist in town what you are doing and the fact that I did exactly what you taught on your videos an ended up with a killer under 100 dollars Telecaster that plays great and now will use in my shows. They just looked at me and I said you got to watch this guys videos! Thanks for the education and the fun great instructive videos ! Keep it up I'm watching! BTW one asked if I would look at their guitar. I give you the credit Shawn!
I agree I've lost all my respect and loyalty to the major brands. Got 2 different strat sty L e ,off brand and a les paul jr off brand I changed pick ups and pots and did fret job. I wont be going back till they lower their prices. Would only own Fender till they got out of reach for the average guy. Keep up good work Sean and Cathy😅
@@PXR5-PXR5 Yup , and the thing is it's the same old guitars , they haven't done anything innovative in 50yrs. They think because they add new colors or relic it that justifies them to increase the price by hundreds of dollars. They're so overrated and out of touch , I'm a huge fan of Schecter and own several. At least they keep moving forward and offer a guitar for everyone's style , plus they're well made , the quality is excellent and prices are very reasonable....
Go ahead and support communist China. Getting things made in America is going to cost extra because labor costs quite a bit here, I guess you want them to lower their costs cutting worker salaries so they can compete with a communist nation. I have owned serval off brand strats, single cuts, an many other types of guitars, and can tell you that they are all lacking. Most people who have your opinions just can’t buy one new, then buy used at half costs, this dude doesn’t sell his guitars cheap, but doesn’t talk about his guitar costs but will shit on fender an Gibson all day. He’s promoting you garbage because he gets kick backs from Temu and these Amazon sellers are probably giving him money to.
@@dukenukembubblegum7311 Ok smart guy, sooo, poor musicians are all communist supporters....... You need to put on a hat before someone thinks you are a dick !
Hi Sean. I really like your videos. I think I’ve watched everyone at least twice. I’m a disabled combat vet. I used to play professionally for a while. And thru trial and lots of error I learned how to fix my own stuff. I eventually want to start building guitars. And thanks to you I have the confidence to do it. Thank you so much for all your videos.
You knocked this one out of the park... out of the zip code even. That fliggity flame neck and that beautiful blue burst. These are the videos I love the most, keep it up and Cathy... please don't give Sean any more brain damage. Lol
Beautiful Blue! I love that color! I painted my 68 Mustang Coupe with the Shelby “ California Special “ kit and that Blue, people swore it was black. I had to wet sand the blue with 6000 and spray laquer and kit it with dry 220 for 3 coats before the Urethane clear. I love it when you get it all rubbed out. No silicone, just urethane polish. The Clearcoat looks an inch deep like that one. It broke my heart to sell it. I had roller canned 428 CobraJet to put in it. But I built that 289/302 4 speed for it and he made an offer I couldn’t refuse, the engine was the original 289 and I put a 302 crank in it. I ll tell you that color of blue treated right is the best color you can get. The reflectivity through the clear is amazing! Prettiest Strat color ever! That one be a keeper! Like I miss my vision and my Mustang. That is special!
Did the same thing. Used a Squier body, SX lefty neck from guitar fetish for &40 & a loaded pickguard with Wilkinson pickups. So a partscaster with a reverse headstock. Smokes any fender I’ve personally played. And she’s in old man sunburst.
THAT is a killer guitar there, Sean. It's got the looks and it sounds fantastic. Cathy's pickups are doing the business for sure. And you're right - all Fenders are 'partscasters', that's what Leo envisaged from the outset. Some are put together in a Fender factory and some after-market. There's no shame either way.
Man, you are absolutely right! I've watched other guys and then I happened upon your channel by accident. The dumpster Paul videos were the first 3 I saw and because of your dedication and transparency on your channel I finally gained the confidence to attempt a neck replacement on my Epiphone Les Paul custom shop. Your videos are far more in-depth and detailed than any other guitar builder videos I've ever seen! I've stocked up fret rockers and a straight edge as well as an action adjustment gauge. I also have a brand new epiphone Les Paul 100 and i attempted to do a setup and fret job on it and it turned out amazing! In the last couple weeks alone my confidence has tripled! Thank you for what you do!
Your vids always seem to inspire me more and more from building my first kit guitar to redoing guitars. Now I'm in the middle of taking my 95 baracuda strat and making it something great for my young lad that I got when I was 6 and now he's 11 so a great time to have him learning the process
Great video Sean! If someone can't learn how to fix a guitar by watching you then they must have a learning disability because you do a great job of showing and explaining how to do everything.
That's how it's done Sean ✔️, I'm like you, love my Fender but not a big spender. I've built two parts casters with parts from 4 different player series donors off ebay. You can't learn if you don't try. Your channel is a motivator. 👍 🎸
Well Mr Sean. I enjoy your videos and I can say with all honesty your guitars are just as nice of not nicer than the big guys and play really sweet. A friend of mine has a guitar you built and it’s his go to for gigs. Keep up your Chanel and build your ass and scar ‘‘em up !!
The best pickups I have ever heard. These are better than any Fender I have ever heard. It is beautiful and sounds like the best choice of a Strat ever!
Hey Shawn, I can clearly see that your from the same neck of the woods as me,,,I'm old school n not rich, I just found your channel and you have already helped me drastically,, you and Kathy have me laughing my butt off bro, but seriously your videos are super helpful and enjoyable.. Thanks a million
I gotta say wow that turned into one beautiful guitar!!! I love that neck, the flame really stands out. New bridge and Cathy's pups and you got a smokin' guitar. Great work AS ALWAYS Sean, thanks for sharing and we'll see you Saturday night🤘
You're right about those surprises. I have a P Bass I recently restored. While I was shimming it I realized that the neck pocket slopes higher on the treble side. I just left it and set it up anyway and it plays fine. The bridge is adjustable for a reason.
I just finished setting up a Chinese neck off Ebay. It is very nice. Dark roasted Maple with the stripes with a Rosewood fingerboard. The frets were near perfect. Some spot levelling took care of it. No sprout. A beautiful neck indeed. Shipped to my door for $60. Oh yeah.
Man I bought a $40 neck off Temu (the frets needed a bit of leveling) and it was dressed and the ends were nicely rounded! It was a satin finish and 14" radius, I put it on my parts caster and once the frets were leveled, oh man, it played nice! Thanks for your informative, funny, and inspiration in your real talk videos. I will have to seriously want a "name" brand guitar to buy one again. My 96' American Lonestar is all the name brand I need.
First, I love your videos. My last fender was a player series, 800 bucks and it needed a complete set up as well as fret work. The fret sprout was really bad but luckily I know how to setup and fix guitars. I now, like you only buy the cheaper guitars, spend a few hours setting them up and find meyself only playing them. The best thing any serious guitar player can do is to buy some basic luthier tools and learn how to use them, in the end it is extremely enjoyable and rewarding. I actually look forward to ordering and setting up cheap guitars now. I bought a Firefly a few months back for $149. I put another 100 in it for pickups, pots, saddles and a new switch and it is my go to guitar.
Okay, Sean. I'm going to give this one a shot. Just ordered one of these guitars and will look for a better neck and tuners and pickups. I got a feeling I will outdod Fender like you did.
I love watching you both cutting up. And thank you both for showing me how to fix these guitars. I'm a Bass player and I love playing Bass but I'm always looking to fix guitars and Basses. Thank you to both of you Sean and Cathy. God Bless you both.

Now, that was one of the best "EL CABONGS" to date.
Thanks for doin' that.
You are so appreciated.
Keep that guitar at the ready.
RIP Sam Ash Charlotte, NC you were loved
That neck is awesome.
And pretty hot single coils.
Cool work Shawn.
That guitar should be called Spanky because it sure has some honky tonk tones. It sounds amazing!
Damn it man! That thing sounds great!
Edit: I’m gonna be needing some of those pick ups brother. Does Kathy wind these to a certain specific? Those things combined with the set up you did sound freakin awesome. Thanks for doin what y’all do bud.
I almost Died when Kathy gave you the good old El KaBONG!!!!!🤣
That hit on the head was epic hahahahah🤣🤣🤣
At 18:12 you plug it into an amp and I can hear the breakup. It sounds like a really good guitar. I would not be ashamed to play that in a live gig setting. Good job.
Hey Sean. Any chance you can do basses like you're doing with guitars?
Hey Shaun. Yes we can get great prices from China but the biggest problem is tolerances and consistency. I've ordered parts off of Ali Express, Musiclily and others and the parts are iffy most times in regards to quality (sometimes) but more so size tolerances. I agree with you 100% though the big three need to start making guitars worthy of their asking price! I still say for the money and quality it's impossible to beat Sire!
That spring claw is the worst installation by any factory I've ever seen. As always you've done another impeccable upgrade job!
That "Partmaster" guitar turned out to be a monster! Love it!
That's pretty slick, man!🤟
Hey, I just want you and Kathy to know that I really enjoy your channels and content. I have learned a few things along the way, too.
Did you have to do anything to that neck? Fret polishing or leveling? For $80 bucks you can't go wrong! Nice work!!!
nope
Would it be possible to do an in depth fret leveling tutorial.....i just got the tools but skiddish about taking the plunge......all i know is when you get em they buzz...when your done its gone....please share that knowledge step by step cause im done buying the major brands(except schecter...they deliver).....as always keep up the good work
Spot on. I'm so glad I grew up when you weren't afraid to get dirty.
"That sounds like a personal problem to me." Lol, Kathy is gangster.. Love the humour!
That neck position is solid gold
I watch every video you have! Great! Just an idea but maybe you try some distortion or overdrive. Keep up the good work!
Best tone yet Shawn !!!
Beautiful guitar! Definitely proud of my partscasters - no logo gang here!
You give me great encouragement 🎉 Thanks, man 🎸 (Good laughs, to boot!) 😂 17:31 😊

Knowledge is power folks.
Where did the bridge saddles come from? They look a lot better than the junk bent metal saddles that come on the fender bridge.
Good stuff thank you! See you Saturday night
