From the multi-billion train to nowhere, imbecilic "homeless" policies, disastrous bridge repairs, failed dams, failed energy policy, failed forestry policy, $1 trillion in underfunded CALPERS pensions. They are so tone-deaf they want to raise property taxes on commercial properties when businesses are already closing left and right due to COVID. They want to cut the life-line to many people right now who are ride-share drivers. • @quixoticPrancer
      @quixoticPrancer 3 года назад +1

      A symptom of the problem, not the root of it. Rents in CA are sky high because of extremely high cost of developing new properties; sky-high property taxes, government regulations, onerous environmental studies and legal costs, new buildings codes (must contain solar), etc. If a landlord doubles a tenant's rent overnight, what that really means is that they have not been raising the rent in prior years to keep up with the market rate, and after a period of 5 or 10 years the market rents have diverged notably from what the tenant is paying. Meanwhile property taxes and expenses continue to increase for the landlord. Furthermore, the IRS does not allow you to deduct expenses on rental properties that are rented for less than the market rate. The government therefore provides a powerful motivation for landlords to charge market rates for rent rather than being charitable.

      I'm actually shocked it isn't wall to wall tents or boxes on every beach in SC. Clearly the message hasn't gotten out yet. LA is next. They actually make people leave the beach if they try to camp now. LA will soon have to cave in and allow overnighters. Then San Diego. The one thing that made Cal attractive, the beaches is lost. How ironic. If this happens in Fla and NY the elites on both coasts will have to leave the coasts and move inland to escape. There will be a total reversal of fortune geographically.

      Jeremy Coleman As is always the case; if you don’t accurately state the problem you can’t solve the problem. The problem is not “homelessness”. They have a home. We just don’t like their choice of domicile. The fundamental problem is drug use. In cities where this is a problem there is a common denominator (besides the party affiliation of the politicians): Drug abuse is enabled by syringe distribution and police agencies are instructed to look the other way from open drug use, littering, public defecation, etc. A Seattle TV (KOMO) station did a documentary on Seattle’s “homeless” problem. It included actual solutions that worked in other cities. Check it out if you’re truly interested in this subject. Just search RUclips for KOMO Seattle homeless.

    I'd move them to a nice off grid property and put them to work gardening and making arts and crafts. The homeless are people who just need a better outlet for their mental illness in most cases.

    the simple economic logic that if you restrict the supply of new housing units (especially multifamily homes, duplexes, and large apartment buildings) in states like California with onerous building, land use, and zoning regulations, those restrictions are guaranteed to result in higher housing costs, higher apartment rents, and ultimately a greater homeless population.

    Landlord doubled his $2300 rent over night. There's one cause of homelessness that politicians can remedy but in CA are too incompetent and corrupt to address.

      Levels Of Rage it's not easy. It takes work. But there are so many job opportunities in the rest of the country that have a good cost of living. Look at Apple... Austin is their 2nd largest market and cost of living is wonderful there, plus no state income tax. People stay there and claim "pity," but yet they are doing nothing to improve their quality of life. San Fran is a rich mans market... if you can't adapt, then move. As Dave Ramsey says "if you can't afford to live in said place then move."

      No, the core of the problem is the unending greed of landlords and the real estate industry coupled with incompetent city and state officials. Lastly, our healthcare system does nothing to deal with mental health and substance abuse issues and that makes it much worse.
