Hi everyone. This was filmed last November and wasn’t planned. No microphone was used and only filmed on the phone. I was only bringing it home but couldn’t help myself. I had to try and start it
I've only cleaned about 4000 sets of points and cap terminals with fine sandpaper over 40+ years messing with engines, but I'm glad the commenters told you my method was no good...8^) The four banger sounded pretty good once she got motivated to run. It would liven up a golf cart or lawn tractor, that's for sure! Liked the video. Cheers Steve!
Great to see her burst back into life! As a kid, I remember we had one of these (or something similar, at least) running a Lincoln 250amp welder without a muffler. When she first 'kicked', I instinctively went to block my ears. Ha ha! Another awesome vid'! Thanks Steve!! :-)
Thanks as always mate. We actually had one very similar. It was a Ford Consul engine running the same Lincoln welder. I can still hear it now. I mentioned it in the D2 video because of the belt drive governor it had on it. We should have kept it but didn’t think I would at all go down this path. Magnificent memories mate.
Gday Steve, it’s bloody awesome to see another engine saved, you see a lot of biggers v8’s and 6’s so nice to see a 4 saved, I reckon a mini tractor build with that engine would be good, great episode as always, cheers
I’m extremely envious of your talent and your ability to resurrect basket cases - sounds like a ripper of a little engine. Somewhere there exists a photo of a 2-3 year old me standing next to my late dad’s Ford Anglia from the early 1960s. I can’t remember much about it - but there again I can’t remember what I had for lunch so no surprise there. Great channel, Steve ! Thank you.
Watching again as I realised I made a mistake , I was so excited to watch the video I just pressed play without getting a cold sandwich 😅, so grabbed one and watching again 👍✌️
The Ford Anglia was a great little car in its time. I think it won Bathurst in its class and I had the pleasure of driving one in the sand while on a Roo shoot back in the early 70's. I still can picture the car in my mind.
Gday Steve awesome video mate nice to see the little ford engine saved they were an ideal engine for the boat boys here in the uk sold one or two for boats hope the family is good looking forward to the next one Steve
Signs like a bird. When the local tech school closed we got a couple cortina engines on stands from the automotive room. I wish I lived this life again, they like soo many other things wouldn’t have gone to scrap. Yes you have no use to it, but a row of different engine on stands that you can put a battery on and start would be a nice thing. And a lot cheaper than having the entire car it’s out of there as well.
Great video as usual :). These engines were just about still being seen in the dealer network when I started my apprenticeship. When doing the points we were told by Ford to use sand/glass paper to clean the points as the sand and glass was non-conductive. Over the years I must have done hundreds if not thousands of points . Never had a problem with sand/glass paper. You have to go for fitting one of your engines in a tractor or perhaps some sort of buggy for around the farm :)
Hey up Steve sister's boyfriend had one 40 odd year's ago yours reminded me of its sound, excellent scores from ya mate there, this one didn't even blow smoke on start up. Thanks for the video going to look up these southern cross engines now and find out what they look like. Have looked up southern cross did already know of the windmill water pump, turns out the engine foundry is up the road a bit from you at Toowoomba, you need a picture of id plate on yours before boxing it back up. And yes to a ratrod pick up be perfect for zipping batteries and tools around the collection
Hi John. That’s good mate that it reminded you of it. Send me an email or private Facebook message and I will share the southern cross photos with you mate
I always use sandpaper but after sanding I try not to let points touch and put a piece of paper in to wipe off residue but also hold points open to remove paper as just pulling paper out of points with pressure on them I’ve had fuzz from edge of paper remain and prevent contact. Maybe overkill but it works for me. I probably would also have tried to start it right away as with bringing something home which is that complete it is hard to resist.
Howdy 🤠 from the Northwoods of Minnesota. How about trying Stich Lock pins on cracked head?? I'm going to get for my 8-71 head's and give a go at it. Seems simple enough to do. As far as video's, it's more than just a will it start. It's also the history and adventure. Great job 😎 n keep doing watcha like n sharing. Thanks for everything
Gday Steve. I don’t care if it’s trucks, plant or a whipper snipper. I’d still watch it mate. If it’s not you tinkering then it’s me. A dying art these days but always seemed so basic to a lot of us. 😊
Once you put the firing order right it came around fairly quick . That is an odd firing order, not like most 4 cylinders I have seen . Its sounds really good , maybe think some more on some kind of buggy to build for around your place ? Thanks again mate ! 🌵
Hi Steve, had a few of Anglias and you can mix and match the bit between the 997 the 1200 and 1500 3main bearing crankshaft, o and the 1340 clasik engine. Mine had a 1200 block 1340 crank, con rods and pistons 997head and 1500 manifolds and carb, it went like stink. Haha😂
@stevesplacedownunder I think a lot of your viewers are probably Americans, You should just be Australian and nothing else don't cater to anyone...much love from North Carolina. United States
@stevesplacedownunder they are all good mate, even with sound issues. I just turned the tv up - simple. My actual name is Anthony East but I abbreviated it for RUclips. That motor would be great in a little home made tractor. Would be a great talking point at shows.
@anteast2684 Anthony! Magnificent. Yes it’s fairly simple to do but I guess people like to complain. I’m all about it though If they are nice about it and just informing me. I’d love to do something with it. Maybe I will one day
People that judge you are dick heads you keep going love your videos love to come across the paddock and meet you one day I like the way you do things keep up the good work mate
Most 4 cylinder engines are 1-3-4-2 from memory, but bloody Ford had to be dicks and went 1-2-4-3. Bastards. Pretty much irrelevant these days unless you somehow come across one of those twin lead coils, but it would be hard to screw that up... I think International V8s did something equally annoying, so that what was normally the number 1 plug ended up being the number 8. Kinda fucked up one's day...
watching on smart TV doesn't show pinned comments, just recommends next video, have been watching your videos since you started and am a subscriber. perhaps you should be more professional and not so impulsive.

Fair play Steve audio is good enough great video . And hope your all doing ok ✌️
Nothing beter than a couple of cold sangers and Steve resurrecting another old piece of gold onya mate
Engine start ups. Trucks . Tractors and scenery . Love it all . Uk veiwer.

Thank you mate. Yes I think it’s good also. Something a bit unique. I’d like to do some with it like that.
Top job Steve. All those little pommie Fords sounded harsh in the starter dept. Sweet little motor. Got my car license in 1970 in one of those.
Yes mate the few I have played with certainly have sounded like that. Great little engine.
The Rat Rod idea sounds like a great idea, Truck Cab on a Tractor springs to mind. Looking forward to seeing what you make.
Well done mate, good to see the old hooer come to life
I always get excited over things coming to life again mate. I can’t get enough of it
@ you’re a wiz mate, there’s nothing you can’t do
@oldrigsdownunder7301 I’m sure there’s something son🤣🤣
Loved the ford anglia mate was a panel beater in the 70’s what he did with that car was amazing , keep the videos coming mate
Another one from the good old days before engines needed electronics and computers and could be repaired with simple tools and simple logic!

So very sorry to hear of your recent loss.❤
Thank you Stuart. It was awful mate

Hi mate yes I think they did win Bathurst. That’s a good memory for you to have of one
Great little video. Great old engine. Have a good week. Marc

Hi mate. It seems like a good one. I don’t know much about them but I know cortina’s were good
Rat Rod! Especially cool with a 202.
I think it would be cool too mate
You do what you want to on your channel, we all enjoy it mate. Cool little engine, I wonder what you are planning on doing with it.

Sound was a bit low but all good and the end result was worth it
It was a bit unplanned mate and didn’t have my usual equipment with me
Once you put the firing order right it came around fairly quick . That is an odd firing order, not like most 4 cylinders I have seen . Its sounds really good , maybe think some more on some kind of buggy to build for around your place ? Thanks again mate ! 🌵
It was a Ford UK and Germany thing, AFAIK.
Haha😂

Enjoy the donk videos as much as the trucks and tractors.
Thank you again mate🙏🙏🙏. This one the sound wasn’t great. But still ok I guess

Ok understand why poor audio.
Still a good video on the old ford engine. Not seen one well over,45 years.
Yes wasn’t at all planned but still thought I’d share
Looks like a pre crossflow Kent engine? Got the later Kent crossflow 711m 1600 block in my Mk2 escort van.
Plus I've not seen too many 6 volt alternators...
its definitely out of an Anglia. escort manifolds where on opposite sides [crossflow].
Yes mate I was sure it was.
They are 1243 in the firing order
Thank you mate
Love your videos but lately your volume is shit don't get me wrong just asking cheers mate
Mate yes I know. In this video anyway. I didn’t use the microphone in this video because it wasn’t planned and done with the phone
People that judge you are dick heads you keep going love your videos love to come across the paddock and meet you one day I like the way you do things keep up the good work mate
