    They have web feet.
    Our newfendland male was 170lbs
There freaks for water.he had his own kiddy pool. We lived in San Diego in the 70s .

We’ve been married for 50 years and we currently have our 7th newfy. Ebony, Emily, Magic, Daisy, Coco, Bear, and now Panda. They were all black but Panda who’s black and white. It was mutual love with each and every one and we loved every minute of being with them.

I have a 10 month old Landseer Newf. Ichinojo is currently 120 lbs and will probably max out at around 150-155. He's definitely in the teenager phase - he craves exercise and mounts every new person, dog or object he sees (my vet recommends against neutering large breeds because of the increased risk of obesity). I started taking him to the beach and to the Scottish lochs when he was very young and he loves water.
Newfs love kids. Ichinojo's best friend is my cousin's 3 year old son. He's very gentle around toddlers, and he's got a strong protective instinct. Whenever a stranger tries to approach the little guy Ichinojo will physically place himself between them. No growling or barking, but he makes his presence known.

Unless you plan on breeding your dog I don't know how you stop that beast from mounting. I guess when he mounts your little cousin repeatedly you will skip your vet's suggestion and just exercise your dog more.

    • @janellek21

@@CC-si3cr He's never mounted my cousin thank God. He gets plenty of exercise, and the mounting has decreased over the last few weeks - puberty may be coming to an end.

I grew up with Newfoundlands, so no dog breed seems "big" to me. I had a 180 lbs puppy named Rex, and my mom had a 240 lbs puppy named Teddy before I was born. Also despite being known as water rescue dogs, some Newfoundlands can't swim. My mom had a very small Newfoundland named Mischief who didn't know how to swim, and would just walk along the bottom of the lake or river they went to. She was also the oldest Newfoundland that our family or our veterinarian knew of, she lived to be 13 when the average lifespan is about 11 years.

Yes if they were showing violent behaviour. Newfies are gentle by nature but don’t let that fool you. When they feel it is necessary to fight, it is unlikely that they will back down. There have been many stories of the through out the years, one of my favourite was of a man trying to abduct a child but changed his mind when the Newfoundland dog began to growl and show his teeth. The owner of “ Tiny”, a 160 pound Newfie couldn’t believe how quick her dog sensed danger and kept his body between the man and the child , warning the man to not come any closer

    For heavens sake,
Please, please take the time to learn how to pronounce Newfoundland correctly. "Lind" and "Lund" are not part of the name.
It's pronounced Newf-In-Land and must rhyme perfectly with "understand" to be acceptable here in Newfoundland. And, it's never Newfoundland Island, it's only ever referred to as The Island of Newfoundland. This place we call home is the smaller portion of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. And no, The Labrador Retriever does not come from Labrador. It's roots are in Newfoundland and it's a spin-off of The Newfoundland Dog originally known as The Lessor Newfoundland.
