- Today's agenda is to get the other headlight fitted then start applying the front end to see if we even like the extended headlights. This has been an ongoing discussion whether we like how far they stick out and whether we should cut them back some. Another thing on our agenda is to get the hood fitting better... which seems to be a bigger issue than we thought 😬

Hi Chad, this is Jens from Germany.
If you think about putting a yellow headlight into the center of the grill,
go for another white glass one. Instead of the white bulb, take one with a yellow light color.
For me, this will keep the nice and cool look of the front alive.
If you throw another color beside the chrome, black and the car color itself on the car, it could get a little bit too much of savage-looking.
Hi Chad use spacer in behind hood hinge
Chad has inspired me to get back in the garage and start working on my car. My HHR needed a new exhaust. I put on a whole new exhaust then I put on new starter, altenator, wiper blades, restored the headlights, buff and waxed it. Now are ride is fresh and is alot quieter. As Chad says if I can do it you can do it and sure enough I can. It's amazing how watching a channel can change you life for the better.
I have been inspired to go in the garage and make a man-cave!😂😂😂😂
Hey Chad & Jolene happy Sunday fun day! Chad I like the headlights the way they are now, just my opinion and that is that they look good. When you lifted and dropped the hood down it looked like the hinges were really flopping back and forth it may be a little more than just trying to bend them. Tomorrow have Doug lift it up and set it down and see if I am right. Jolene great video as always and congratulations on being at 295K viewers just 5K more to hit the big 300K. I will be back tomorrow.

Chad when I bought my '49 Ford Custom Coupe it had the amber light in the middle of the front grill and I hated it. It just made it look drab looking. It had an extra V8 Bullet thing but it was rusted on the buttom, so I googled it and found them on Ebay and bought one there for about $100.00. And it made the front of my '49 look so much better, that amber light just looks drab looking. But, as you always say, it's my car and I can do what I want. Good luck. Rich
Turning out just fine I'm with you just use what you got and enjoy riding this spring summer down town.
As far as the chrome a buffing wheel and compound some altar fine sandpaper can bring back the stainless just as knew and shiny. Then where the pitted you can spray clear over the chrome.
I have pieces that were brown rusty I put them on the wire wheel and shined it up. Sprayed 5 coats of clear over it still looks the same 20 year's ago.
The head lights fit and look the part. The trim parts fit good. The upside down bumper is something I haven't seen done with the frenching. A yellow center headlight? That is something I haven't seen. I can't wait to see the paint Joline picked out. (🙏 for 1978 Buick Midnight Blue🤞) If not, "Dang it😪!"
@@richardbrowne3641 that chrome can be shined with some buffing pads and compound and some really fine sandpaper.
My neighbor down the street redone all his stainless steel him self it looked like he had it all rechrome.
It just takes some patients and time to shine, but it saves on a whole lotta money getting thing's new or chrome.
COKE A COLA and a steel wole pad can clea rust off the bumpers.
Car inner tubes make great gasket material!? I've been doing that for years!!

Good evening Chad and Jolene. The lights that the gentleman gave you looks great. I wasn't sure what it would look like with extending the fenders out but now you have the headlights in, it looks pretty good. I do agree it would look cool with a light in the middle. I have been following the whole build and I like how it is turning out.

Headlights can be a challenge, Great job!
I was critical of extending the headlights but I now can see the vision and I really like it. I would paint the headlight rings to match the color of the car if you can't find chrome ones.
Good to see old classics given new life.
I restored a 65 gt cortina for my work mate a couple years ago. That was a project and a half, on a time schedule which was unfortunate. It came out alright though, still needs to be de nibbed and buffed. He drives it to work almost every day.
There's a heap of clips I did of it on my channel. Would be awesome if you could check them out Bad Chad. Cheers mate.
I really don’t like the headlights, but that is a matter of individual taste. So many other things he’s done to this 50 Shoebox are really cool and I am definitely all about making things from what you have lying around.
I’m confident about the fact that due to how much Jolene films this kind of work, her knowledge on methodologies and techniques as far as fabrication, welding, body and paint and mechanics or anything else done on the channel for that matter is just as abundant as Chad’s amount of knowledge or anyone who does this kind of work absolutely.. 💯💯💯
One system trick of the early 60s was a chrome reverse wheel with baby moon hub caps always like crome reverse wheels even with out the hub caps.

I love his head down, charge forward approach to doing it his way. I’m not even a car guy but I can appreciate his process. The basics transcend style and I’ve learned a lot despite being an offroad oriented enthusiast
I'm an old school custom car builder of more than 50 years, and I really do not like those "Bug eyed" headlight extensions. If they were cut back about 2 inches they would look far better, now they look like an afterthought, but if that makes your socks go up and down then leave it. Years ago, I reshaped the front fenders of a 50 ford I had to fit the headlight doors of a 56 Merc. Now that looked killer. Please lose that ridiculous looking hood ornament.
Happy with that look... except the lone star thing needs to go... 😂..3rd head light or fog light...yah I can see that... another idea I no everyone has it but putting a center cone would look good to... maybe put a head light in a center cone...saying the cone to go with the other two head light or make a cone and put your own 3rd light in it...just saying and giving ideas..but all in all I like it Chad..

There's adjustment in the hinges. No need to push your guts out. As far as the surface rust on your chrome parts. Try 0000 steel wool.
Those blue S.O.S. pads work good too, especially when polishing up aluminum trim pieces.
The 6 cylinder emblem piece might match better with the headlights or might be helpful in mounting the headlight in the center. 1948 Tucker had a headlight in the center that turned with the direction of the wheels. 😊
Amazing job. Looks great..Only thing that I don't like is the idea of a Yellow headlight in the center of the grill.. As it sits now, That would be a car to show off everywhere..
It's looking really good. But a yellow light is goofy and may be illegal? I like the center badge with the 8 ,cause it's bold . I think it it's like the sherif is rolling in. 😊
I think some came with a yellow center light from factory.

I was thinking the same thing, that a third headlight in the center would be nice. Yesterday instead I was thinking about headlights with yellow lights. (I love the yellow light).
The front is taking shape and I like it a lot 😎👍
Don’t put a yellow spot in the middle, if you do it will look like a spot a different type of spot being yellow you will want to squeeze it. Looks cool as it is.
I’m sure you’ve already realised that you can shim the bonnet over with washers, or by elongating the holes in the hinges. It looks like it only needs 1/16”, which obviously gives a 1/8” gap difference.
The headlights disappeared can’t even notice them know. Chad and Jolene you guys make a great pair and work together so good no matter what your doing and with the hood when your looking at the windshield from the front the right side hinge rolls to the left when lifted and back to the right as it comes down so maybe try working that side. Just saying.
The driver side hinge in jumping over when you halfway drop the hood. It has to be bent over...or tightened...or something. Tighten the driver side...then the passenger side.
Chad was going to paint it a month ago--Maybe never!!

Get the trim on headlight chrome plated. Out in Vancouver at Dependable platting probably no more then $150 to $200 for the pair. Don’t know about shops in Halifax, Toronto I understand is very expensive.

Funny when it's all done people will say well that wasn't all that hard but they don't realize when you're making one of a kind that's like a prototype that they would make from the factory would take months and months and thousands of dollars and thousands of dollars to get it done in a bunch of Engineers and you're doing it in your back alley garage you're the coolest dude
Pretty sure there should be a gasket normally rubber between the headlights and the metal body

On the hood issue try using spacers between the hinge and word bolts on the right side and then on the left side you spaces between the hinge and the hood Where It Bolts to move the hood to the left
On the headlight bezels, that fill needs to be on top maybe?. .they seem to be aimed high with the lights in place?.. perhaps look at the side line visual that Jolene had in the camera.
I though maybe when the front bumper and grill were put on, that the head lights wouldnt look so weird, but in my opinion they look a little silly from the side view.
This coming week should be a good week of content looking forward to it having Doug and Nate back and getting the color revealed hopefully finally it looks pretty good with all the chrome and stainless steel not to be sure about the headlights being out so far have to see it painted and everything put together
It would be interesting in the center of the bumper maybe on a future build to put a power meter like on the side of american homes. Where the electricity gets measured or shut off, at the meter. That panel with the glass showing the meter spinning while shes runnin.
Could you put a couple washers on the one side of the hood hinge?
Chad I can’t see if you can ad photos to this chat but get some of those what they call wool grinding disc pads. They call them wool but they look like felt discs. Then put on a grinder ad metal polish and they come up amazing if there is still good but dull chrome on there. As i said if I could send you photos of my before and after huge difference.
1950 Meteor grill would look wicked in it and pearl white
Use a '49 or '50 Meteor grille. Will look like a Merc. Grille will pop right in.

Chad and Jolene , The front end looks great !!! The 3rd yellow center head light will make the Ford Shoe Box a bit like the Tucker Car
Use a pry bar on the hinge of the hood, if that doesn’t work break out the torch and heat the hinge until it’s red hot and bend it over. If there’s a will there’s a way.
The headlights look GREAT in context with complete front end!
You need to go see the guy you got the door top from and see if he has hood hinges on that car. I think yours are bent that is your problem. When you close the hood they lean toward the passenger side.
Looks good. Add a headlight in the center grille piece. Like a Tucker.

Chad, try putting a slim piece of wood, are what ever you have, between the hood and fender then close the hood down to what ever it takes to move it !
I think if you shim the fender connection to the hinge and shim the hinge on the hood. That will move it sideways.😊 Love what you have done to the car.😊😊😊😊

I think it's looking really good. Wasn't sure about the headlights at first but they have grown on me. No pun intended. It really looks good from the front he just needs to adjust the hood a little.

Chad would couple of 1/8” washers between the left hood hinge and the hood move it over just enough to help the alignment?

Looks like the hood is warped. By « twisting » back in to shape will most likely make it sit right but you may need to refeather the left side of the hood. 😢

Chrome headlight rings, Ross had those Lincoln type, skip the skinny white walls. Go medium to large whites. Deep dish wheels, baby moons. Ok The yellow center Fog lamp kinda has a Tucker vibe. It’s a unique look… good job

HEY Chad , need to add shims or washers behind the right side hinge,,that will move the hood,,,,, you don't want to bend that hinge,,, your alignment will be off somewhere else..

The only thing more irritating than a jack on a cement floor is a yellow headlight in the middle of your grill. 😁
On the hood you losing the bolts and adjust the Hood so it fits right that's the right way to so it if you bend the hood hinges all you are doing is making the higes week. I would keep the hubcap's you have on the car they look rilly nice
Wasn't sure about the headlights,but now with the headlight assembly,s in,I love it! I do hope you leave the headlight rings as is,I really like the copper look of them!
Hi Chad, depending on the color that Jolene chooses, you should consider brushing the stainless. I've seen it done with scotch Brite pads and it looks amazing!
Back in the day, there was a kit available to mount a third headlight in the center of the grille with linkage to turn the light with the steering.

Suggestion, the round portion in front of the grill would be a great place to place a third headlight. Don’t think I have seen that and it would be Bad Chad Style

1 I'm still not seeing the headlight stream but it does look better together it kinda reminds me of the sloth from the ice age
2 maybe some sort of shim in the hood hinge
3 I kinda dig that color that the primer came out with my color blind eyes it's almost that baby pastel Blue and it may look good with some sort of cream top blue body and some old school moon hubcaps
You will have to undoe the hinge bolts and see if you can shift the hood over your hinges seam quite stout and will not give.
It really looks good with them headlights in it
Rather than try to bend the hinge, why not use a washer as a spacer between the hinge and the body on the rear passenger's side (where you were pushing?
