I started using it to make aircraft canopies look better but have found so many uses for it. Nice thing is the price, a bottle will last me forever. A drop on your dashboard dials simulates glass when dried. It can also be tinted.
I was about to future with trepidation my nx-01. Perfect timing Doc thanks for the tip and assurance, it's always comforting to see it done by a master it helps to dissipate the fear of messing up.
very cool.... so many lite passes.. working all around the body...let dry and repeat... what about clean up?? what do you use to cut the future when cleaning the air brush??
like. another great video. I've seen the tank guys do this, but nice to see it done on a car. So you are a fan of that little Iwata airbrush, I've seen mixed reviews of it online. good to know. I was leaning towards Badger just because they are North American made and have an excellent support record from all I have seen, maybe I need to look to The East. cheers
Great video doc, but be careful that stuff don't last years, like other clears and it yellows. Did you know you can add a few drops of simple green cleaner to give it extra gloss. Small parts can be hand brushed (one/two fast swipes) and the future will self level. Great tip video man!
TY for another great video presentation DC. I really needed to see this done, and once again you served to feed my brain, which is always starving...LOL! Your Mercs are just fantastic, and they serve as great inspiration. I like them equally but certainly for different reasons. I use future for applying photoetch detail parts, do you, or have you?
@damncranky666 that would be great, i have multiple matte finishes and was just wondering the best combination or what you suggest should be used. thanks again doc, much appreciated.
Hey Doc, you mentioned that you use the Dullcote to flatten the paint. Is there any particular benefits of using future over Glosscote at this stage? cheers, Chris
Hi Doc, another great video. I'm new to airbrushing and I've just got myself a starter kit and spray booth. I've picked up loads of great tips from your vids. I'd love to know where I could pick up one of those stands that you use to hold the model. Is this something you made yourself or can I pick one up online? Your advice would be much appreciated. Thanks, Colin (UK)
Colin, this is Donn Yost's trick. Go to the plumbing section of your hardware store and pick short lengths of 1" piece of pipe with it's flange which becomes the base. Cheap and simple and it works beautifully. Cheers to all the good friends in the UK.
Great video as always cranky but personaly that floor polish scares me...im gathering its a fairly new product...so ibe worried that i would regret using it a year or 2 after applying it. The best thing that i can think of for someone clearing as many models as i will be is to buy a 1 gallon kit of high quality automotive clear and a fast hardener and put it in little bottles like u had your future in to mix as needed. or a half gallon kit
Great video Cranky, I have been using Future for years also. They changed the name sometime ago for anyone interested now it's called "Pledge Floor Care Multi Surface Finish" I called SC Johnson about the name change before I tried the new formula they said it's the same stuff just changed the name. It worked just as good as always. By the way, did you build your spray booth yourself? or did you buy it prebuilt? I need one too,..just wondering. Thanks Greg
Good and very informative videos my friend. I need accuracy: What is the brand of airbrush, it's really good! This varnish "clear future" is really liquid. It does not run? no "orange peel"? Single component? what brand?. I also note that you do not have gloves mask there, it is not harmful? What I like is that it's really late.
Hi Cranky, I came across this video from the Mokanaman. I like to paint armor and would like to start on a model car, but it seems like a whole new discipline. I primarily paint with acrylics, but I notice many car modelers use lacquer/enamel paints as they are polishable - I've also seen some pretty nice gloss work done with Future, too. Is it possible to get a A+ gloss finish with multiple coats of Future? Is Future polishable, and does it ever lose its sheen over time? Looking forward to hearin' from ya.
That's a fantastic "Pre Flooded Market" deal my man!..Unfortunately, I should have picked one up back in the 70s when I was still stupid and dumber than I am now..LOL! .. I think that since the economy, and the system has gone ignorant for all of us average Joe's I am going to try to make one myself. The only thing that worries me about building it myself is the danger of spraying enamels and thinners through an exhaust fan of some sort that wont blow up from the fumes :-( Thanks, Greg
he calls it "future clear" but the the actual product name is "Pledge floor finish".. you can find it at walmart in the cleaning isle. it's an acrylic resin used to add a protective finish to flooring.. it does not have a high uv protection as it is designed to be reapplied on a regular basis and the new coating will strip the previous coat
@@Yourlocaltankgirl8375 Yes. It gives a pretty decent shine/gloss that is easy to dust/wet clean over the years. It makes the windows look amazing! You can even brush it on! Honest, try it if you haven't yet. Use a smooth, soft, wide brush and really coat in on there. Get the drips off the bottom edges.
Folk hey Stop by Steve Neill's Garage he is having a bit of trouble this few days say hi and cheer him up. sorry to hi jack but we all need to stick together.
Love your stuff dr cranky. Will u please check out my latest video with the GTO, Fairlane, Road runner and give me some suggestions on colors. Thank you.

Paint job looks great. Can't wait to see it with the decals. Take care Doc.

The Merc is looking great!!
Nice videos Doc. We can still hear you fine over the extractor fan. Thanks.
Nice little series, you outlined everything I do wrong with future!
Thanks very much Doc, you're an absolute star. Keep up the great work and thanks again, Colin

ok thank you Andy X difficult to buy in France.
Great clinic as usual. Have a good one doc.
Great way to get a shine!
2 questions:
Did you sand the body before the future?
Do you sand the body after the future?
Thanks!

This might be stupid question but does the future actually harden like a clear coat, and will it stay on for ever
Looks good bud, I love the stuff too.
Doc, After the future you use Dullcote? Do you use the spray can or use an airbrush? Does it still leave a glossy finish?

Great video Doc thanks for all ur help
Thanks Doc! How about the Iwata HP-M2, where did you get it?
Great video doc!....what dullcote product do you apply after applying the future?...or is that the next clinic?...lol
I use use my MP-1 for the same purposes varnishes and priming.
In many European countries, Future equivalent is known as Johnson's Klear, Klir or Klar.
I think it's "Klir" in France.

Flocking vid???????????? Whens it comin doc gettin excited
What is the drying time? Thanks
You can air dry it with a hair dryer and it goes faster. I normally let it sit overnight.
yes, I have a question if I may. After you sprayed how did you clean your airbrush? Thanks, Dana
D Ringquist I disassemble the AB and use a sonic waves jewelry cleaner to bring it back to brand new.
+D Swedish you could also use 91% alcohol with some Windex (60/40 ratio)
Thanks Nap., I found a good systems a while ago. Plus i've not built in sometime. Lost interest I guess
hahaha, I am using Windex (that stuff you clean your windows with (blue)) thinned with Water.
Will this work as a regular clear coat?
You can use it over other acrylics, but I don't recommend using it as a general purpose clear.
Like if I use it over acrylics on my car models will it give the high gloss shine the world is craving?
I was never able to get that kind of shine using it, but others on RUclips have.
@@DoctorCrankysLabRATory but it'll do the trick as well as it can? It'll shine at least?
