Very helpful video I have had a H model for a year. Picked up a compressor last night and after watching this I am off to get some testors enamel and thinner. Thank you for making this so easy to understand.

The good old Paasche model H, my first quality airbrush 40 years ago. Since then I've spent hundreds of dollars on fancy airbrushes, but the "H" is still my go to brush and I do 95% of my airbrushing with it.

This is one of the videos that made me decide to buy a Paasche H.
Tried it. Painted several models with it. NEVER had such a good result like with this one!!. So easily. So effortlessly. The only regret I have is that I did not buy one 20 years ago....!!
And because it has only a few parts and because they are bigger than on other airbrushes, it is easier to disassemble and clean, too.
Haven't used it spraying gloss paint (matt only) but with many dozens of F1 car kits and other race cars waiting to be build, I'll get plenty of practice. Can't wait to give it a try.

Last time I owned an airbrush was 50 years ago and didn’t know about thinning the paint then. I’m retired now and am just starting to do custom die cast. Paasche H has been in my shop for about 40 years. I have a Paasche VL that has been in use in my shop for about 20 years. A few years back I purchased a Paasche Talon and it is now my main brush mostly due to the ease/speed of cleaning it. I would still use the H or VL where I need to maintain a wet edge over a large area. The H and VL can use the large siphon jars that hold a lot of paint and can be changed out fast.

Looks similar to your setup but the whole body is made of red plastic. Haven't got started in airbrushing just yet but seems like i'd want to use the Paasche for doing 1:25 scale car bodies.

    andy a great video.
Igot the VL and the H
The H is 22 years old and is what I call great American quality.
I always thought i should use the no 5 needle foe enamels but maybe I should try the 3.
    I use 25psi.
    I spray O gauge trains.
I think the Paasche H for doing the kind of work both you and I did is unbeatable.
    Rugged,
    Foolproof
    Reliable.
Sometimes I have got orange peel and normal put it down to the paint being to thick so never mix paint by ratio but by seeing if it drips off the end of a small screw driver like milk does.
Like everything else i make mistakes and alway willing to listen to others.

great video! would love to see more paint jobs from you using this method. I have some questions, do you sand the body before painting it or do you just spray right on to the body out of the box? Also what clear coat would you use if you were to use one?I just tried this method for the first time and I did end up with some orange peal. I think I was spraying from to far away or did not have enough paint flow at first. However, while spraying I can see how you can have great results.

  • @brianclark2119

Dust can be a real problem and covering the body with the plastic container while it dries might eliminate it but that solvent (thinner) would be trapped inside the container and I have had paint jobs loose that wet looking gloss and die back because it would not allow the new paint surface dry properly. Buffing will restore the shine but the longer it takes for the solvents to leave the more likely they will be to cause other problems that effect the finish. A bit of filtered air allowed to flow through around the curing body would make a big difference.

  • @davep4703
    @davep4703 8 лет назад

Hi Andy, may I ask about polishing this paint mixture if there is a few dust spots to remove. Does this enamel sand and polish like lacquer, only most people suggest that it's difficult to get the gloss back. Are you going to be doing a follow-up video on this aspect of the technique? Regards

  • @PorscheRacer61

this vid has been the one on paint that ive been waiting to see, the Doc also utilizes the technique popularized by "The Old Man", truth be told , all you guys are miles ahead of me. just one question tho...How and for how long would you, as an experienced painter allow for this combination to gas including factors like temp & humidity/ the Doc recommends a steel cabinet, sounds reasonable. also i have a cheap "airbrush" brand single action, what kind of results and performance do you suppose i should expect w/ this brush? fabulous vid, subbed you and will catch more. please ck my first and only spray can orange, matte clear weird-oh...there will be more. thanks .....chow

This works well, and I've seen Don Yost do this method too - Single action airbrush at 35 psi and Enamel paint. I had read about it, but the first time I saw Don do it on video I laughed my ass off. It sprays radically more paint than your typical low-PSI double action airbrush. Like the overspray is just crazy, and with the enamel paint you are going to stink up your whole space especially without very good ventilation like a big paint booth. The small hobby paint booths are not powerful enough to pull all that out of the room. So imagine someone whose work space is in an apartment or something like that. If you live with other people or live in an apartment you are better off just biting the bullet and going double-action airbrush around 15-20PSI and an Acrylic paint that airbrushes well like Tamiya. You will be spending a lot more time on car bodies, probably three or four coats with dry time in between. But your loved ones and neighbors will thank you. This method is for people who live in houses and have dedicated work spaces like four season rooms or their garage. Someplace where other people won't care if it smells like someones been huffing lacquer.

@@AndyX I use my 3M organic vapor filter respirator along even with my double-fan paint booth inside my apartment. Huge cloud of lacquer thinner vapor that momentarilly comes back at my face until the suction fans can take hold! That method works like magic, however. Paasche H Number 3 needle/cone/aircup set at 65% open with 35 psi on the DeWalt 1-gallon compressor.

You are overthinking it with no practical experience. I had a 1 bedroom apartment that had a small alcove in the dining area that was perfect for model building. I had a 2 fan cheapo booth from some overseas company cost me like $80. Using either 2:1 or 1:1 Paint:Thinner (Enamels & Lacquers) I painted all my models there and the room never got overly cloudy or course the smell of the paint was there for a short time, never had an issue. Matter of fact those paint fumes acted like febreeze and even the horrid acrid odor of Saurkraut and my Brothers feet would disappear lol. It looks like a lot but you can turn down the pattern and save tons of paint/thinner, these guys are just going all out and the Paasche VL series double actions are even better for paint control.

Andy, I bought the same 2oz bottles from Amazon that you mention in this video. Question: Paasche doesn't offer 2 oz bottles so I'm having difficulty finding a cover for these bottles. Where did you get your cover for these 2oz bottles?
