At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what you are if all you see is race. That mentality will deter you from success cause it’ll develop into a victim mentality, and no winner ever had that.
lol this happened to me, im a D5 runner because of the population of my school (about 450 kids) and we went against granada hills charter which has almost 5000 kids and birmingham which has over 3000 kids. long story short our team was destroyed by both birmingham and granada, what's even worse is that they placed me, a freshman, into the varsity race, i passed 3 varsity kids out of 200. i did complain but it was my first meet so i didn't really have much to do or say
@@dustingutierrez2401 it's a reference to the movie where coach white is surprised by the fact that Danny Diaz makes it among the top runners at the finish line.
I'm a huge fan of McFarland high school CC and much respect goes to there success and accomplishments. I'm a runner at Reedley high, class 2015. I don't mean to be rude just realistic. There upset over going to D1 and their school size. School size shouldn't play a part, all Cross country teams have seven runners and the only difference is how much work an individual runner is willing to put for their team. The point is D2, 2015 CC state finals was more competitive then D1 state finals. You get moved up a division don't cry about it work harder then you have before. For example Madera south went from D3 to division 1 and they are having great success Even qualifying for NXN nationals. I'm a little disappointed in McFarland. I understand you guys have so many state titles but it's a new generation you no longer have 60 runners at the start line you have 260. You want a state title you work for it and not ask for an easier way to get it.
+JORGE PEREZ You forget that there is a difference in getting over 3,000 kids to only getting 800 kids. yeah it is top 7 but even that make it almost impossible for them to even get a chance to get in the championship. Why do you think in the COLLEGE level they have divisions too! It hard to compete with a school that has more people to recruit from especially in the inner cities.
I live in Indiana and we have one state meet for all schools no matter the size, yeah it is hard to get there but plenty of small schools have made it, you shouldn't be able to just dominate a state meet year after year sometime u have to move up
Facts dude. I live and run in Indiana too. We are the only state that isn't classed and it makes us work harder. If they want to make it to state they need to work harder

I've never heard of the movie before but today when I was listening to one of my favorite podcast they talked about it and they recommended it, left me a little curious so I decided to check it out for myself and somehow now the RUclips algorithm brought me here

Oh boo hoo. Losing state after 24 years? Excuse me, 24 STRAIGHT years. If they're really THAT good why not step it up. McFarland has already been stepping it up moving from division 5 up to 2 winning championships from every single division. I could go to a school with 10000 students and my cross country team could be the worst in state. Size doesn't matter, talent does. And by the looks of it, McFarland has a lot of talent. I just see a bunch of sore losers and cry babies who can't accept a loss. All you have to do is simply work harder, no slacking, no excuses. P.S. Welcome to the big leagues McFarland.
+Josen Barbo HELLO EARTH TO JOSEN. When you have more students to recruit from especially in a population that has over a million people and then you break that down to 2,000+ to 5,000 kids who attend the school. Mcfarland only has 800 kids who attend the school. Looks like California didn't want them to continue to make to the championship and so they MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO WIN or Make it in! Even there BEST TEAM out of the 24 years may not have made the division 1 state championship and that says something! Think of football too. Imagine a school playing a school with 800 students while they have over 3000 students. Some H.S have 4,000+ students to choose from. Great Oak has 3,660 Students. You said: "Losing state after 24 years?" THey didn't win state 24 times! They made to state championships 24 times that is what they are saying now they didn't even make to the state championship!
+Darryl Flinch HELLO EARTH TO DARRYL. Think of it this way buddy. A heavyweight boxer goes against a middleweight boxer. The heavyweight fight may be bigger in size but still lose if he/she doesn't know anything about boxing. That's what I'm saying- talent is what matters. When you have a championship caliber school like McFarland that has gone to the championships 24 years in a ROW, you know it's easy for them. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. You have got to look at the other side of the story as well: Is it unfair for McFarland, or is it fair for the other small schools with less talent.?
Josen Barbo Exactly, there's a school in my conference that has a population of less than 700 students with a small cross country team consisting of around 15 guys. There 7 varsity runners, though, run times of 16:23, 16:29, 16:50, 17:02, 17:08, 17:24, and 17:35. They consistently win Regionals and States in the lower division because of their superb coaching and talent.
Then they should work harder. Class systems are a joke, except for football sports shouldn't be classed. Im glad I live in Indiana and we have a single class system
Don't focus on the losses--this school is a winner!!! Don't ever stop running, there is always next year.
