  • Tributes have been paid to rugby legend Rob Burrow who has died aged 41.
The former England international passed away on Sunday (June 2) following a lengthy battle with motor neurone disease.
Burrow was diagnosed with the condition in 2019 and was given just two years to live.
He is said to have ‘passed away peacefully’ at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakeford, surrounded by his family.
Burrow played for rugby league team Leeds Rhinos for 16 years.
During his time with the club he won eight Super League titles, two Challenge Cups and three World Club Challenge cups.
He spent the last few years of his life raising awareness of MND .
And along with friend and former teammate Kevin Sinfield, raised over £15m for MND charities and research.
The pair were both made CBEs in the 2024 New Year Honours after being surprised at Headingley Stadium by Prince William.
Paying tribute, Sinfield described his friend as a ‘great man’ saying it was a day he hoped ‘would never come’.

Deepest condolences to all of Rob's family, Kevin and his many charity backroom staff, former Leeds players and all at the club past and present, the rugby league family.
The staff of the NHS who's treatment would always be met with a smile.
    RIP number 7.
