I'm not sure I understand using mix minus when feeding back into my laptop. Here's my situation: we plan to have an in-person club meeting with a guest speaker attending virtually via Zoom. I plan to project the Zoom participant onto a screen and push the audio through a portable PA speaker. The laptop does have a headset (TRRS) input. If I do a mix minus and feed it back into the headset input of the computer, would that be all I'd have to do to prevent a feedback loop? I would be feeding my mic through the mixer as well, and that mic would also be picking up the questions ask of the speaker by in-person attendees.

@Kettner Creative - Jordan, your way of explaining things is top notch. Very logical and just enough detail. About mix minus for live event, it would be great if you can address how to prevent the remote voices coming over the speakers at the event from getting into the open mics and then back out to the remote people, creating some echo issues. Can be a secondary route for the remote voices going back to them, right? There are various higher end boxes for keeping this from happening, but wonder if you have any tips at the level you deal with here. Again, great work!

With the Yamaha, you cannot do a MixMinus over USB because it only has one output that copies the stereo output. If you want to do this, you would need to find a USB mixer with at least 4 USB outputs. Generally speaking, you would be looking at a digital audio console somewhere between $1200-2000 for this feature. In my case your cell phone is actually a group of callers on Zoom. Will they be able to hear each other speaking or will zeroing out their sound eliminate anybody calling in on Zoom from hearing others on the Zoom call. I know they will hear the live microphones.
I've used this method as you suggested on an Mg10XU to connect an Android phone but I need some help. What I've noticed is that I need to have the FX send level just above zero or else the input on the phone gets distorted . Have you ever had to use an attenuator with this? Help!, I have the MG10ux and I set up the mix minus exactly as described. But what is happening is that when the everything is connecting is is causing the microphone to get extremely hot (not temp, the sensitivity) and it begins to pop the microphone. It is like an explosion of sound. I begin to talk into the mic everything is good for a few seconds and then, I think the pre-amp, pops making the sound and sensitivity go way up. Then if I stop talking it goes back to the normal level until I talk again an then it pops again. I have now switched out all of the cords and it has not stopped the problem. I am thinking it must now be the phone (iphone X) or the board. I have tried many configurations and it does seem to be an issue with FX send because when I plug the cord into this, I can hear the sound get hotter and there is a buzz. Have you ever heard of this? The adapter in the video from the phone to the headSET is for iPhone. Does anyone have a link to an adapter that does the same thing for Android (usb-c to headSET)? The reason that I am asking here is because of a rather strange anomaly I have discovered on Amazon. If you actually do a search for an adapter such as what is used in the video with the term headSET, the Amazon results - without fail - will return items labeled headPHONE regardless of how I structure the request of what I am looking for! If anyone knows a "trick" I could use to get Amazon to leave out results containing the word, headPHONE, that would be deeply appreciated as well. I have literally and truthfully spent hours at Amazon and I cannot get past this incredibly persistent issue with the search results not containing the actual word I am looking for. Is there a way of doing this with a phone that only has USB-C audio output?
What if I don't want to hear my mic, or if I want to separate my mic for special effects?
What about for gaming?
You did not leave a link for the XLR / 3.5 MM FEMALE TO 3.5 MM MALE CABLE.. CAN YOU ASSIST?
Hi, What set up do I use if I only want to talk to only the reverend? Do I still send from the FX to the phone XLR or the 1/8"? Thank you for your help.

In my case your cell phone is actually a group of callers on Zoom. Will they be able to hear each other speaking or will zeroing out their sound eliminate anybody calling in on Zoom from hearing others on the Zoom call. I know they will hear the live microphones.
Yes they will. Zoom manages that. Everything in this video will work fine regardless of the size of the zoom meeting.
I've used this method as you suggested on an Mg10XU to connect an Android phone but I need some help. What I've noticed is that I need to have the FX send level just above zero or else the input on the phone gets distorted . Have you ever had to use an attenuator with this? I notice that the output of the FX Send is +4db and I don't have much control since I have to keep the fx send knob very low just at about 1 Out of 10 tick marks. Have you ever encountered this problem ? Thanks
I’m running into issues when ever I talk the mixer pegs and shuts off. I have no issue on the callers side. I’ve tried multiple dongles and phones.
I know this is an old video, but if my phone has a USB-C, could I not just use the USB connection from the back of the MG10XU to the phone, since it has 2 in/2 out?
I haven't tried it, but it should work.
I have Yamaha MG06x without Fx send, so can I do mix-minus with it and Scarlet Focusrite Interface?
Thanks.
No, you need the FX send in order to do the FX send.
why does it seem I can only use this with skype and no other podcasting software
I have a question...I'm trying to do a mix minus with 3 separate feeds coming in MS TEAMs. I have 2 AUX sends on my MACKIE 1202VLZ4. I'm solid with doing a mix minus with 2 TEAMS feeds. How do I do it with 3?
We use TEAMS a lot, so I'm interested in your situation. What do you mean by "3 separage feeds coming in MS TEAMs"? There are 3 participants other than you? Hopefully, I could suggest something. We use Mackie 1604vlz which has 4 subs out, so very convenient.
Hi, what is the cable that you are using connecting the iPhone adaptor ? I cannot see clearly from your video (3:25)
And does it input stereo sound from mixer to the phone?
It's linked in the description of the video. It pulls from the FX send, which is Mono.
My question is like this . I am receiving calls from 3 mobile 1)what’sup 2) Viber 3) Imo. I can talk individually to everyone but I want to have a group call or conference between these three mobile that everyone could talk to each other and everyone could hear each other . Please need your help or please make a video thank you so much in advance
You need an audio mixer with 3 aux channels to make this work.
Advice
I would call Yamaha/support. Sounds like a hardware issue.
48v is open
Do you have to use the ¼" Jacks on 5/6 or can you use the RCA phono's on 5/6 channels
That works too
@@kettnercreative Thank you
Does this mean I can’t do this and have fx?
Is the FX send on the Mg10xu a line level? I think it has a +4dBu
Yes! You can either turn down the volumes or use an in-line XLR pad if the level is too hot for you.
@@kettnercreative yes , I turned down the fx knob to almost zero to prevent distortion😅 Most importantly , your method works ! Cheers 🥂
@@kettnercreative in-line pad is quite expensive , I am still searching 😂😂
Hi Jordan!I'm using a CROWN MC-4US Professional 4 channel mixing console.it has AUX and EFFECT out which is the best to connect my phone? I'm a little bit confused.
Use the Aux if you have it.
Thank you very much for the help
Hello, again Jordan. Purchased all the cables you've suggested in the description for taking phone calls through a mixer. Sometimes, when I plug in the cables to the iPhone, I get a prompt saying "accessory not supported". When I'm able to get past the prompt, I can't even get a signal during the call. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
Are you using the official Apple Lightning > Headset adapter? It sounds like you're using a third party adapter.
@@kettnercreative Positive it's original.
@@ascensomultimedia Strange, that's the only time that I've seen an accessory not supported. Once the digital to analog conversion is done, there's nothing else for the device to support. This is exactly what that adapter is meant for.
I’m going to order a new lighting adapter to rule out it being bad. Thanks for the prompt response!
@@kettnercreative Hey Jordan. I bought a new adapter. Problem solved. The adapter I previously owned was bad. Thanks again!
i use an irig in conjunction with one of the monitor out to stream live and discuss with fans on instagram . so can i use this setup and not use my irig, to achieve the same result ?
Yeah, this is what we use.
@@kettnercreative thank u very much. im going to try it out .i really appreciate y’all
@@hugomonstah No problem at all
I was about to order an iRig2 for this kind of setup because I thought the level had to be lowered from the mixer to the phones microphone input. Does some part of your setup do this? e.g. the lightning adaptor, xlr spliter, or trs to xlr cable? Or is this not needed? Thanks
I ran into an issue. I have a person on the phone and a group of people in Zoom ( on iMac late 2013 with Headphone port: Headphone/optical digital audio output (minijack)) meeting and I want to connect all. With mix-minus and of course USB mode, folks in Zoom, hear themselves. Is there a way to fix this, please? I seems I cannot use the USB mode in my case! Aren't I correct?
You need a larger mixer so you can do two mix-minus setups.
@@kettnercreative Do you mean I should not use USB? I have MG12XU. It has two AUX1 and AUX2. I suppose If I don't want to use the onboard effects, I should be able to do two mix-minus setup. Aren't I correct?
I bought the phone adapter/splitter and followed the setup for a mix minus on this same mixer. I am able to get the caller's audio, and the caller can hear when I play music through another channel on the mixer. The only thing the caller is not able to hear is my voice coming through any of my mics from the mixer. Do you have any suggestions on how to get my mic's audio through to the caller? Thanks for your help.
If you follow the steps in this video, we discuss how to add the mics to the feed that goes to the caller.
@@kettnercreative I'm thinking I may have an issue with the splitter and or with the phones. I originally tried using a Samsung Galaxy and couldn't get the caller to hear me. However they were able to hear the music coming through the mixer. Then I used an iPhone and was able to get the mic to be heard on the other end of the call. However, the audio was distorted from my microphone and was changing levels every other second - going from high to low but never staying at a steady level nor clear. Have you ever had a problem with the splitter?
For reference I don't have any problems with mics, and music playing through the mixer when not trying to create a mix minus using the splitter.
@@kettnercreative I do have the same connections you have with double 1/4" going into 5/6 and and the 1/4" in the fx, both plugged into the splitter as you have it with 1/8" and xlr.
Thanks in advance for helping me figure this out.
@@three20media12 I have a very similar issue while using a Samsung Galaxy 10 phone. The caller comes through clearly over the speaker but they can't hear the audio coming from the microphones.
@@kennetht2362 I decided to try a new microphone after ordering a second splitter and having the same issue. I was originally using a shotgun mic. I bought the Shure SM58 and that seemed to fix the problem. To be clear, I didn't have any problems with the shotgun mic while using just the mixer. It wasn't until I used the splitter that I ran into issues. I'm not sure why the mic made the difference. Maybe @Kettner Creative will be able to explain. Hope that helps.
How could I do this with a voice communication software (discord) coming from my main PC which I play games and chat to friends on ?
What are you trying to do, just work with discord, or work with discord to integrate that chat into a live stream while playing a game?
Yeah to intergrate discord while playing a game while live streaming or not, I haven't got the mixer yet I'm just wondering is it somethings thats possible to seperate the audios so i can adjust volumes and stuff for each sorta thing
Is it possible to do that with Yamaha MG06x?
Unfortunately the MG06x doesn't have an aux/fx send that you can use for this.
Oh! good news!
So, can I do that process (mix minus) through any mixer with Aux/FX send?
@@flaviobojikian8012 Yes you can.
How do you set up a mix minus on a Mac book pro?
If you're using a MacBook Pro with this setup, you would need some type of USB device to give you the headphone out and mic/line input since they don't have a headset output built in. You could use a Sabrent USB Audio card on the low end and on the high end you could use a USB audio interface.
@@kettnercreative can you explain this set up? I’m using a MacBook Pro and trying to figure out recording Skype calls through the MGXU
So, please, if anyone has a link to a USB-C to headSET converter, please pass it along.
Thanking you in advance for helping out!
Max
Apple does make a USBC one that work on android as well.
@@kettnercreative Hey Jordan - your videos are the best! I happen to use the Yamaha MG10XU. Nit being an "Apple Guy", if not Amazon, where do I go to find the USB-C / iPhone version of what you are using?
Thanks for your efforts. You are making a real difference!

@@MaxLaingDMP Hi Max, you can get the same adapter from any Best Buy, Walmart, Apple Store, or other Apple Dealer.

Is it that mix minus comes built in with zoom podtrack p4 / rode podcaster ? We are doing with cables right ? Because I couldn't find that adapter in my country .
