    The Color Adjustment slider is used to match the sky to the foreground. When the sky and foreground are similar colors you won't see much difference. If the sky had been a warm sunset, warmer tones would have been applied to the ocean too.

  • @kaosimagery
    @kaosimagery 3 года назад +1

    In my opinion, Luminiar 4 does a better job of getting the foreground and sky colors to match closer using the Relight slider. Of course, you could do it yourself in PS. Also of note, you can grab and move the sky around in PS, so PS has better placement tools. And with the brush, you can edit the transition mask as well.

    Thanks to Anthony, the "Bob Ross" of post-processing. One problem I encounter when replacing skies is matching the water color to the sky color. It doesn't always match, of course (e.g., Bahamas), but sometimes the color of the sky affects the color of the water and matching them is tricky.

      Don, that is exactly the way I would use it, if it proves to be a reliable tool for that. I,m interested to see what the transition zone on pixel level really looks like? Is it too jagged or too smooth? Does it reveal gaps, and so forth? These are type of questions I would look into if it was going to become a useful tool in my workflow. But I guess that’s old-fashion thinkin’ in this new world of cut/past & sampling reality! I guess it’s up to each one of us what kind of photographers we wanna be, isn’t it?

  • @branchau
    @branchau 3 года назад +3

    In my view this is a good explanation and demonstration of Photoshop's sky replacement features. However, in the interest of completeness it ought to have mentioned it has no sky reflection capability; that's a noteworthy limitation in my opinion.

      Yea, you’re right! Adobe is still one step behind Luminar in that respect. But the fact that Adobe decided to go this route at all with Photoshop surprised me a little. To me it’s a little bit like when a 58 year old guy decides to scrap his old Volvo and get a motorbike instead. At first it’s an exhilarating experience but then it starts to feel like an alien beast in your life that bothers you more and more. It’s not who you are, at the core of things. Photoshop is slowly becoming like a historic museum or excavation site where you can find traces of layers from different ages buried deep down in the digital sediments. Now Adobe have decided that this old museum is also going to have a department for the young audience that live in the 21 century. Kind of amusing to me!

    Weird question,
    I use Lightroom Classic on my desktop along with Photoshop. On my laptop I have the same thing. Yesterday when I updated everything for some reason on my laptop know I have two versions of Photoshop. It seems like I know have version 21.?? that seems like the non cloud version. The other Photoshop is the 22 version with the new updates. First question is how did this happen. More important question is how do I combine them so I don't have two and still keep the new updates.
    When I updated my desktop I noticed it had the two separate versions but when one updated it automatically combined the two so I only ended up with one Photoshop with the new updates and it appears to be the non cloud version..i.e everything looks like the version I have always used just added the new updates.
    Hope this makes sense and maybe someone can help me get my laptop photoshop issues figured out and combined. Thank you !!

    It's a nice feature, but without the reflection of the sky, it won't look natural, until you do a lot of adjustments, without reflection this is just a gimmick feature, although it is very much desired feature.

    I copied an image of the Hayes Galleria in London. It has an arched roof with a skylight and an unobstructed opening in the rear. So there is sky visible from the roof as well as the opening. That is, if the photo had sky. In this photo, the sky area was whited out. Luminar 4 .3 refused to do Sky Replacement before I replaced the sky successfully with Photoshop. After, it only replaced the sky visible through the rear opening. So Photoshop won this one.

I was going to upgrade to Luminar AI but now I'm going to hold off for a while and see what new additions/upgrades Photoshop makes to this feature. So far, it's very impressive. Also, the new neural filters proposed in Photoshop are going after several 3rd party plugins. This should increase competition between all the vendors. :)

      We have now entered into a period of transition where the public is going to have to re-evaluate what a photograph really stands for. This whole shift is not driven by developers like Adobe or Affinity but by the phone industry. What we see now is companies like Adobe scrambling to catch up with that rapid development. Personally, I don’t think it is going to be very effective to just plop some neural-engine-driven tools into an old beast like Photoshop. I think a whole new “architecture” around these new tools is going to emerge eventually and in that distant future time we will look back wondering how on earth we were able to accomplish anything with the type of tools we have today. I’m not sure I want to go into that future, but it is coming no matter I like it or not! We will have to re-examine the whole concept of what “art” is as well. Not to mention the ambiguous idea of “reality” itself, mind you. This is just the beginning. We actually see it happening all ready, in some ways, when we see certain world leaders acting and talking like they belong to some other parallel universe where other standards and manners of conduct are the norm. Is this the rabbit hole we wanna go down?

    I am not fan of AI and tools like sky replacement. Where is your integrity as a photographer if you can just go any time of the day and snap a photograph and add a fancy sunset sky in your editing tool when you come home. I mean nothing can beat that feeling when you are at a location you´ve been to 9 times and the 10th time every thing works for you, cloudes, colors, wind and so on. To go home from that photo event is special. No AI program can interpret that emotion you felt at that time.

If you look around you will see that most of the “new” features Adobe is throwing in in the new updates in both Photoshop and Lightroom are gimmicky stuff they see other developers are promoting right now. So, instead of going deeper and develop truly innovative and creative new tools for us to enjoy Adobe have decided to join this imbecile race of childish stupidity. Shame on you Adobe! @@freetibet1000 As you say, but also Adobe are shoring up continuity of loyalty - I tried the Luminar based on nothing more than lets see what this is all about - terrible - PS throws all the gimmicky stuff in for free as it were - but it doesn't mean you have to use it - but if you did you would find its better than Apps which can only do a few things well. Conversely i was a Fuji Ambassador for a few years - in the 90's extolling the virtues of NPS160 and NHG4 and 800 for wedding photographers. I bumped into a Fuji Rep at my local camera shop and told him -that I didn't know what to do with a completely unused FujiGX680III with every single lens and every single accessory and a few prototypes which were kindly donated to me by Fuji in return for my services, James from Fuji made a call and as it turned out they were in the process of opening their House Of Photography in Covent Garden London. He said could we have to put on permanent display in the heritage department upstairs -"Of course".next week a van arrived to pick it up and in return and very unexpected a brand new Fuji GFX50s arrived with 4 lenses - So I tried it but to me this was a camera with an identity crisis - it had everything - but didn't know what it was or why it had it. It seemed to have been released into the world without any real clear thought about who it was supposed to be for. I sent it back with a very polite thank you but no thank you. My Hass H5D - is all I need - 5 controls and that's it - ISO, WB, shutter, aperture. Fire. - I don't even use AF/AE - results are simply breathtaking -sometimes in life things are too complicated. My old Microwave had 2 controls - and I understood it - power vs time - easy. But apparently we needed a new one. Lady Of The House said so. That was 3 months ago and I still haven't figured out what the other 9 controls are for!!!!!! On a more positive note the Fuji display has gone down well!!!!

    My main flaw with this is you can't blur the sky in PS as compared to Luminar. I'd have to blur the file first then import in. Annoying.

      Just duplicate and use the mask that is generated when you output to a new layer to blur the sky with your choice of blur. Much more powerful with the blur options here.

      @@TC-cd2ms I tried that and also cleaning up the mask ,just did'nt look right to me. I often have a subject silhouetted or in my sky and there were blurry halos that took an age to get rid of. Even then I still did'nt like the result.

      Because Photoshop gives your sky replacement as individual layers you could simply convert the sky image layer to a smart object and use the blur gallery options in filters to blur to your liking. Being that it is a smart object you can alter non destructively if you change your mind. This gives you vastly more control than Luminar can ever offer.

    You know, it is starting to sadden me about these new features. Soon, you will need no skill just button clicks. Just don't see the fun in that.

    I'm fed up with Sky replacements and "AI".

  • @Eigil_Skovgaard

    You demonstrate the formal promises - not how Photoshop actually manage the sky replacements in the details. Please zoom in to 200 or 400 pct and show the most challenging edges, while the edge-adjustment is done. It would also improve the educational value if you - in this case - made a serious sky replacement the best you had learned.
    Is this sky replacement (plug-in) really without a feature that mirrors the new sky along the horizon to make reflecting surfaces like water a bit more convincing? If not, that would be a severe give away to Luminar Sky AI 2.0's creators if they manage to introduce that feature first. Maybe an 80 pct replacement of peoples images is considered to be too rabiate for a classic image editing software.
    Btw, the next step is not an AI-CGI software, it already exists. You key in a number of parameters and voila, you are on Mars. No, the next step will be a software that continuously - each second for example, so you can follow - creates a new astonishing image - They are all unique and they are all yours personally. You only have to choose and put your signature on the ones you wish you had made yourself.
