NOTE: We're aware that we're butchering the pronounciations of some names - particularly Ulrich and Helge - and we apologize for that! Our viewing of season 1 is complete, so it sadly doesn't improve in the next two episodes, but we're currently working our way through season 2 and we're going to be better about it.
no need to apologize, you should hear my heavy accent when speaking English 🤣. By the way, you are excellent in picking up even tiny details in the DARK story. For example the fact that Helge's dad, Bernd Doppler, already used a cane in 53 (sitting in a wheelchair in 86). Or the fact that 53 was just a few years after the war.
@@ChannelNamePending699 don't apologize, dudes 😃😄 it's okay... I mean, I say that as an American - so maybe my opinion doesn't count that much, but who knows how a German might take it. We know you never want to offend one, and how those "wily" Germans can be 🤣🤣 I jest, I jest with my ancestors.
Helge had a bad day. First seeing two killed kids, go home to a nasty mom, getting pissed on on the way to calculus tutoring, calculus tutoring, getting dumped by Claudia and in the mean time losing her dog, to be finally get hit by a rock a few times....Old Helge should've gone back to this day and convince himself to just stay home.
Do you recall what Helge said to Ulrich in a previous episode in the care home for seniors? When he started to yell in the presence of Ulrich... Compare that what Ulrich said to young 1953 Helge in the park of his parents home!!!!!
@@ChannelNamePending699 🙂I just can say look very closely the whole show - it is like a huge jigsaw puzzle. You will recognise that the scenes are like little puzzle pieces - and all fit in a great complete picture!
@@MartsHH that's the best descrption of the show - its a puzzle, you get random pieces every episode, sometimes they connect with something you already know or with something that comes later, and sometimes you are misdirected because you don't have the full picture
Came here to comment that. They even mentioned him saying between episodes, so I was sure they would pick up on it, but then on the rewatch they missed it again. 😂
To your discussion at the end, the idea is to be able to go back at that moment and prevent it from happening than to just 💀 someone before they are about to harm someone else. There’s a show my dad used to watch back in the 90s-00s called Early Edition. The guy would get the newspaper for tomorrow and would prevent crimes or accidents from happening in order to save people. Pretty good as far as I remember!
Nice your pronunciation of Helge (Heldge 😀). I forget how difficult some German sounds are for native speakers English, like the "ch" in Ulrich. Sis is se same problem when Germans try se "th" 🤪
The Killing-Baby-Hitler Paradox. If you go back in time to kill baby Hitler then he would not have done those horrible crimes, so there would be no need to go back in time to kill someone who does not exist anymore in the future.... Now my brain hurts again with all those paradoxes 😀
The issues of a fixed timeline become more complicated later in the series, especially season three. As new events, questions, twists are added. Your brains are going to melt. 😉
Pronunciation Guide*: - Ulrich = "Ol-rihkh" (use a hard k if the kh sound is too difficult) - Helge = "Hell-geh" * Disclaimer: im not a native speaker of German. If any are, please correct me if i am wrong.
It's easier to just let the German google translate voice pronounce it, I just checked, and it's the perfect pronunciation, so you can just practice copying that.
And Ulrich never would have attacked Helge if his brother and son would not have disappeared. But in Ulrichs way of looking at it, he can change it AFTER it happened. Not realizing that it always happened like this and it is the cause of what Helge will do. If your child would have been harmed the way Ulrichs brother and Mikkel and you could travel back in time.... Wouldnt you try to stop/eliminate the person who did that? Ulrich thinks he is the one travelling in time for the first time and changing things (for the better). For him, child Helge is just the old man Helge who is a murderer.
21:40 I should probably check back tomorrow if I wanted to say anything about the first 21 minutes... anyways; this scene is kinda interesting; I mean Greta did act equally odd towards Helge BUT her name is Greta (which is a short version of Margarethe... is that important? similar names are Grete and Gretel... like the one from Hänsel and Gretel; where Hänsel is itself version of Hans) and the name of the dog is Gretchen; sounds similar? well the ending "-chen" is one way in German to mark the diminutive in German (other diminutives are formed with "-lein"; and sicne I mentioned Hans there is also the nickname Hänschen); so their dog is named "little Greta" - I am not sure she is taking it very well when that is mentioned to her
26:53 I really love that grandfather clock; it is not often enough in this show; so far it has only been in three episodes and I commented on it in two; now... can you tell me where it was seen before?
on another note; since I assume you filmed your 1x10 reaction already; otherwise ignore this cause it contains spoilers ... I was so confused when we saw the 1953 bunker version here; after Charlotte showed us that the 2019 version didn't contain the cyan room nor the murder wall I was rather surprised... again;
34:30 well... this specific incident might seem like an ontological paradox (especially when you ask who first said "Ich kann die Vergangenheit ändern und die Zukunft") but it is equally possible that it it not a closed temporal loop but a series of iterative time loops;
you might wanna check out some Doctor Who at some point; if you don't wanna watch through all of (what is available of) Classical Who (1963-1989) nor all of New Who (2005 - today) you might wanna start with series 5 because then you might enjoy an episode titled "Let's kill Hitler" (which really doesn't make any sense whatsoever if you haven't seen at least series 5 and 6 up to this point); on an unrelated note, I can already see the headline: new evidence shows Hitler was driven by getting beat up as a kid; so maybe just don't do it;
Crime: Actually doing a crime while you're under 18 actually may guarantee you're safe as opposed to doing it in the 50's. 13-17 years holding down girl and gang raping get no time or punishment. Even murder gets them free. Good Crime advice isn't doing it in the 50's, it's doing it before you're 18 because society has convinced itself you're a child. Which is scientifically ridiculous. If you have adult desires like sex or death, you're not a child. A slap on the wrist for under 18 crimes was invented when they thought stealing candy and action figures was their only crimes. We made horror and violent music a norm introducing it to the mainstream. Kids aren't kids anymore. People need to wake up and stop giving them a free pass. While they permanently ruin lives.

Don't worry, I think we're used to English speakers mispronouncing names in Dark reactions 😅 most people do

Will now be referring to this episode as Helge and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
"Calculus tutoring"😂. Yes, that was indeed the worst part of that day, being hit by the rocks a close second 🤣🤣🤣😉

good eye!
It literally just occurred to me about something, outside of the obvious. It only took me a couple of years. 😂
It's gonna get harder to follow 😂😂 take notes, buy a murder board.

Both of your reactions and attention to details are top tier!!!
The 2 girls in the clock shop were Jana and Ines. Jana later married Tronte and became the mother of Mads and Ulrich Nielsen.

That's the episode I thought that this world and characters were doomed.

For Helge I would say: Hell-guh.
Maybe Helge would have never become a murderer if Ulrich never attacked him and everything afterwards....???
