Great review! I've owned one for a few weeks now and love it. The dual mini-grip... doh! mini-dual grip! is incredibly solid. In addition to everything you covered, 2 things that might be interesting to others..... 1) There is a 2nd 1/4-20 thread on the bottom (under the grip side). Great place to attach an external power source to distribute the weight. 2) The hole for the 1/4-20 screw where you've mounted your monitor is actually a threaded hole, so you can use the included 1/4-20 screw or not (you can screw something directly into the hole).

James Rodriguez usually people use 5 inch monitors with gimbals to keep it light weight and small and use bigger monitors in the studio. Maybe a 7 inch with a big dslr but with a small mirrorless camera and a small gimbal like the v2 a big monitor might look a little silly and in proportional.
I would have considered buying it if it was compatible with the zhiyun monopod... Does the same kind of tool exist without this thread at the bottom, but with a clamp instead ?

Ah, is that what it's called for the Zhiyun cranes.. I was hoping the Zhiyun Crane Plus would have the same ability as the Moza Air's "inception mode" where the user is able to rotate the camera with the joystick in a full 360 rather than having to rotate the grip for the camera to follow..
I cant find any stores that sell these mini dual grip with the screw on it for mounting external monitor, the new version is called mini dual grip lite and they got rid of that mounting screw on the handle, is there any reason why they stopped making this?

I find it difficult to use with a mic because the Zhiyun cable is on a 90 degree angle blocking the other ports on the Sony 6300, is there another option? Yeah that’s a tough one. I usually don’t use a mic with my gimbal setup. You’ll have to get a longer cable on Amazon or something. Or maybe reach out to Zhiyun?
Bought it for my crane v2. The difference in size between the v2 and the crane 2 results in the field monitor being too high (depending on your screen I guess) and obstructing the camera movements. So I returned it ! Buy it with a free return policy and try it with your field monitor. My 2 cts. But you can fix the arm to the crane v2 without any pb.
I feel when I attach the Hdmi cable from the camera to the monitor it pulls the camera while on the gimbal and makes my footage shake how can I fix that?

Backwards hats just make sense for RUclipsrs, haha. Forward wouldn't work too well when recording yourself (potential shadows on the face and such). Another situation is feeling super ultra productive early in the day before taking a shower (eg... the motivation to record right then and there without showing flat spots in my hair, which I even get with my super short cut). I've done that a bunch of times to capitalize on that productivity. :D

my canon camera has only one canon port ad one hdmi port, so how do i attach both monitor and gimbal to it? The gimbal uses the canon specific port, so i hope the monitor can plug into the mini hdmi. Alternatively you could plug the monitor into the gimbal if theres a spare port but dunno if that works

Good question! It’s pretty simple. Just go to the Zhiyun site and download 2 items...the Installer and whatever firmware for the v2. After you open the installer, plug your gimbal, then select it on the installer, then update using the firmware you downloaded!
I've got this exact setup, had it now for about 2 months - however the thing I've hated the most about it is there is no ability to tilt the monitor when you have a lower shot / higher shot. So I've had to buy another mount for it

I just need a Nato rail on the side of the Crane. Zhiyun has an "Extension Mounting Ring with 1/4 Thread". It looks like it may have a nato built-in. But I can't tell. Smallrig makes a cheese plate too. I have an Atomos in cage and a nato top handle. So it would be very easy, in my case, to set up dual handles and a monitor/recorder. Although I bet the Atomos chews through 18650 batteries.
Sidney Diongzon I just got the Crane 2 and didn't want the dual grip because of how wide it seemed to be. This might work better for me and it's smaller.
My Ronin S showed up a few weeks ago (moved from Moza Air) and it is so smooth. Definitely heavy (and I am just using an a6500 with Sigma 16mm 1.4 + external monitor side mounted to gimbal). Anyway, looking forward to your comparison/review. By far the smoothest gimbal I have used (and side effect is huge arms after using!)
So I'm going to make the assumption that Zhiyun will release a crane that fits larger camcorders nicely with more room and also one with stronger motors for better jerk. I presume they also incorporated 360 degree roll like the Ronin S. Either way, I just purchased my Crane 2 after renting it. I love it and more than satisfied.

Update August 2019, feelworld has 2 amazing monitors the f5 and the masters A5 both about $150. The A5 being slightly better for $10 more. Both gimbals are basically the exact same specs as a small hd without a touchscreen and a few other features like luts. (But they do have most of the important features you’d want) See peter McKinnon’s video on the f5. Or any video on the A5 masters. Both being called the best budget monitor of 2019 and for good reason.

You'll have to use a longer cable that's flexible. The Zhiyun monitor comes with that kind of cable.
