He is basically unfireable because of the umpires' union. The terms of their collective bargaining agreement with the MLB aren't publicly available but I'd bet the only way the MLB can outright fire an ump is if they do something unbelievably egregious like punching a player or groping a fan. What I think is the most egregious aspect of this is Angel Herndnadez’s lack of accountability. He never apologizes despite a proven history of screwing up, and instead he deflects blame. The man’s ego is out of control. He can do no wrong in his own eyes and is so diluted by that reality. If he could acknowledge his mistakes and try to correct them, but he just doesn’t do that. Thats the point exactly! I know Hernandez is pretty much average when it comes to missing calls at the plate but his inconsistency is what kills it. I recall early in the season I watched a whitesox game and the ump whoever it was called like 5 balls in a row a strike, but its all in the same spot and he called that the entire game. The pitchers tried to exploit it but after a while the hitters adjusted, so it actually added a sprinkle of extra strategy and it wasn't unfair at all because he called that spot every time, in the exact same way.

Both batters & pitchers seem to have some kind of cheating scandal every couple years...and it's all of our faults. Unlike Basketball and Football, Baseball is actually a fairly simple game with simple rules that all the umps can be replaced by technology. Strikezone can be enforced by technology. Fair/Foul can be enforce by technology. Safe/out can be enforce by technology. The rare beyond the scope plays can be enforce by a quick video check. There's absolutely no need for umps in baseball. These umps should be grateful they still have a job, and they can show their gratefulness by allowing MLB to fire bad umps annually.
