I am in shock your Dr allowed you to have any food straight after your op. Not surprised you were vomiting. Sorry you went through that. The reason you are on liquids for at least 10 days is so your stomach heals along the suture line and the inflammation can reduce. Any undue stress like food and vomiting is not good. Plus eggs are not a good idea for at least 2 weeks. Even with liquids you need to sip sip sip and go slow. I know you are well past this stage. Just glad you shared this even if others can comment for the benefit of others. Much love.
Hi Nicole! Congratulations on taking this step towards better health. I just watched your video about your 1 week postop. I hope you heal quickly! I am 4 weeks postop and never experienced any of your symptoms. I was given pureed food in the hospital and full size pills and never had an issue ingesting them. I hope you're able to start consuming soon. Keep hydrated and try the best you can to get your Protein In.
I have been searching and searching for RUclips content where you can follow a person in their weight loss surgery journey. I first came across your content when you were already past your one year post op. Thanks for sharing your journey. I have just been approved for my surgery. I won’t be scheduling my surgery for at least a year. I need get things stabilized in my life before I can get this surgery. About 9 months ago I was in a near fatal motor vehicle accident and so I have been recovering from emergency surgery and all my broken bones. Next step is vocational rehabilitation and then surgery. Can’t wait. My only regret is not taking this step earlier.
I’m heavily considering the Roux En Y procedure. Your demeanor is SO sweet & positive that I subscribed. I pray that you heal quickly and totally & begin to start living your best life! ❤
@@nicoleislosingit my main concern is qualifying for the surgery. I’m roughly carrying around 70 additional pounds, I’m 5’10 223 lbs & counting. I’ve done everything I can think of, my last diet stint was Carnivore+OMAD+Intermittent Fasting. I’ve gained 23 of the 33 lbs back & I’m literally at bottom.
I feel that same regret smh I’m 6 days post op and I’m just now starting to feel a little more like myself. I had a lot of bruising on my abdomen. I’ve not been doing well with the protein shakes. Popsicles are my best friend. I hope it continues to get better.
Thank you for sharing your experience. Sorry you had complications. Glad you felt better day seven. Your videos are informative. Thank you again for your courage to share and help orhers.
Hello there, wow your journey sounded so rough 😢 I am 9 days post operative of gastric bypass. I am on mushy foods, i have no soreness at all, no feeling of 'omg the tigjtness!' I was worried i had broken my pouch 😂 the dietitian advised that due to the surgery being by robot the healing is alot better. Feel very fortunate to be this side, this morning for breakfadt was a tablespoon of roasted sweet potato, tablespoom of homemade guacamole and a poached egg. Only managed to half. Had the other half for lunch.
I’m also feeling all these feelings. Regret, exhaustion, weak, utterly unable to even stand up without support. I’m post op day 8. Whilst I’ve not had the nausea aspect (I completely understand it as I had hyperemesis gravidarum with all 4 of my pregnancies). Drinking is so hard for me, eating is hard for me. Plus I’ve had to have a tooth pulled out 3 days ago and yesterday I woke with extreme kidney pain which was a severe uti. I slept almost 24 hrs straight. Spent all day in bed today. I feel so bad as my husband is doing EVERYTHING which is hard going.
I am so sorry it's been such a rough time! It's frustrating when all you want to do is get back to normal. Hopefully you are feeling better now - and that your medical team is helping you get better!
@@nicoleislosingit I'm 3 weeks post op now and feeling much better. Still battling the UTI from hell but I managed to stay out of bed all day yesterday. Such a roller coaster! 🙂
I am 4 days post-op RNY and on a clear liquid diet until day 5, but I’m planning to take it slowly since I’m dealing with nausea and some pain. I’m looking forward to thickened liquids, but also not willing to jump on them if I’m not ready. Pill swallowing has been quite interesting and can be almost painful. The gas pain along with the fatigue has been the biggest issues for me. No regrets, but I’m just hoping this stage of the process ends soon.
Interesting. I got my sleeve on Monday October 9th and was in hospital until Thursday because of a low heart rate in the 39-upper 40s range. But they sent me home since i was asymptotic, able to walk, bathe, eat fine. But I'm on full liquid diet for minimum 2 weeks.
Oof, That's a tough week. I'm sure once you get past this stage, you'll feel better. It can sometimes be hard to see past what is happening right now, especially when you have emotions and physical issues happening at the same time. Congrats on meeting protein goals.
It's amazing how different each doctor's program can be! My program starts purees the day after surgery as long as you are tolerating water and not nauseated.
Hi! Today is 4-weeks post op for me and still only consuming 2-3 oz of food at a time. Congrats to you for meeting your protein goal. I’m still struggling with that.
Hi Magogany! We're at the same stage. I am also 4 weeks post op Gastric Bypass. I document what I eat on my Instagram if you're looking for ideas. I go by the name thistothatlife I am able to take in 60-100g of protein a day. I get most of my protein in the morning.
I'm getting bypass next Thursday and I'm to be in hospital 4 days of which 2 days will be in high dependency unit, with neck iv, catheter, 2 tubes, so I'm thinking my surgeon is expecting drama. He didn't give me any preoperative instructions, so i watched some youtube surgeons who have different ideas and one talked about the importance of liver shrinkage to get a clear field for the stomach. RUclips Dr also showed where the retracter can tear the liver easily if it hasn't been shrunk enough presurgery. He said 7 days of 600 calorie, low carb, high protein will be enough to do the job. I'm in ketosis now with a headache. I've dropped 4kg, mostly fluid, and I'll fast on the last day before surgery. My doc told me I'm to do 10 days of clear liquids after, but he hasn't told me the rest yet. I'll get further instruction next week. Hopefully he'll be surprised how nice my liver will look and it could cut down on the intensive care I'm supposed to get.
@MiamiNeverIn turned out I had adhesions on the liver from the lapband, which he removed, but the surgery took 5.5 hours instead of the expected 3 hrs. I'm happy with the results, and 5 months in, I've lost 22kg without even trying. I do have irritable bowel now, which the surgeon said will improve over time. He bypassed 2.2 metres of small intestine, which also had lots of adhesions. While doc isn't a big talker, he's very good at what he does. RUclips was the biggest help in what to expect or do. I went into it quite confident.
Oh, I did a protein shake as well. Just following the guidelines of my doc and nutritionist - the ricotta bake was listed as ok to start Day 1. Lesson learned. lol
They actually sent me home with Tylenol in pill form - liquid would have been so much easier! They also sent me home with pantoprazole (later had to move up to omeprazole), a stool softener, liquid Lyrica for pain, zofran, and then my allergy pill that I have taken for years.
@@nicoleislosingit Did the Lyrica take away your pain?? One of my biggest fears is the out of hospital post op pain. My program doesnt give any narcotic pain meds to go home with. Only regular tylenol. ugh
Post op and they let you eat puddin already? My doc said 2 week liquids post op for me. I had Lapband 10 years ago and was the same thing just liquid post op. Now l am taking out the band and having a bypass done.
It’s crazy how different every program is - they served me a pureed egg and yogurt 12 hours after surgery in the hospital! My surgeon does not find liquids post-op to be any better than purées. Best of luck with the bypass!!!
It sounds like you had dumping syndrome. I am not a doctor so i could be wrong. I am looking into getting gastric bypass surgery. I had the initial conference with others. We were told that post op the first week we would only be on clear liquids.
It's funny how different doctors and their recommendations can be! The official diagnosis was gastritis and I had to be on a strong proton pump inhibitor (PPI) for a few months.
Nope. I followed my surgeon’s recommendations to the letter. He says to start purées on day 1 following surgery. They gave me a puréed egg and yogurt in the hospital the morning following surgery and my surgeon watched me eat it. But if your surgeon says clears for 1-2 weeks, you should definitely follow that. It’s funny just how different programs can be!
I'm addicted to my collagen water now, so I'm glad my doc is ok with it. My nutritionist doesn't want me to rely on it for protein - he wants all of my protein to come from real food.
My nutritionist explained that collagen isn’t a complete protein. It doesn’t contain all of the amino acids that our bodies need. It’s fine to have collagen, but don’t count it in your daily protein intake.

Don't regret your choice. You made the right move towards better health. You're going to do amazing and feel amazing...give it time.
Your team is really in theminority. Most dont allow mush for 10 or 14 days.
Exactly ! Wow 😮😮😮
I'm 5 days post op and still in pain and can't get all my protein in. Thank you for posting your journey... It makes me feel more normal 😢
How are you doing nowadays?

I'm thinking that the tomato sauce was too acidic for your new stomach.
