Great video. I had gastric bypass surgery 3 months ago. Just started going out to restaurants and I get mixed comments too from servers and people I’m with at the moment. My husband is really supportive which really helps but sometimes I feel embarrassed. I know I’m probably overthinking this but it does get to me. I’m sure as time goes on, I’ll feel better about it. I do wish that restaurants would have a Bariatric menu. Servings in restaurants are huge.

So I’m drinking my Miralax as I watch this. I’m only 1 month and 2 days post op VSG and yes, you’ve got to stay ahead of constipation. I hope you can learn to let go of all the embarrassment. It’s really not a big deal and life is too short to give your power over to others. You’re a brave woman to take on the risks of surgery and all the lifestyle changes you’ve had to make. You’re a warrior.💜💜💜

Hello Nicole. I am so happy to have found your channel. I am having Gastric Sleeve Surgery on March 7. So, I am just about to begin my pre-op. I am so excited (and a bit nervous) about my new journey while also looking forward to the new me. I totally get the work it will be and feel I am up for the challenge. That said, I am so appreciative of your honesty about all you have gone through. Not many tell us, in detail, about the good, the bad, and the ugly. It is so refreshing to be informed as to what may happen. I feel one cannot be fully prepared without knowing the full story. You look amazing and I know this has been quite a commitment and journey for you. Congratulations on your commitment and for educating us who are just begging to go through what you have already. Bless you! ❤

Oh my friend, if I did not already know, I would know your a nurse from this video. Please please, don’t take that the wrong way. I have been a career cna/med tech for almost 30 years. I respect nurses, and without each other’s professions, basically the medicine and patient care part of health care would implode. Dr.’s treat the disease, we treat everything else sometimes including the Drs. Nurses and cna staff does have some big differences, thankfully our nurses are the brains of the team, while we are running around with the doing. So hearing about the code brown, gas, and the other fun things… I am so used to be up lose and personal, elbow deep, and …. You have an idea. I’m just so numb to all of that stuff and the fact that for some there is an embarrassment. Thank you for that reminder to make sure I am being mindful, when the occasion calls for it. I wish there was something I can think of, to help in those moments. You have been such a gentle inspiring gift that I have come across, and you’re always helping me. I was given lots and lots of wisdom through the years, especially from our older generation. One of my favorites was 104 year old amazing lady that lived life to the fullest and then some. One night I was working and it was time to get her in to bed. She was extremely particular, and there was an exact routine. If I was working, she expected me to be the one to get her in bed. Well that night I made the mistake of eating something from the dinning room. I was rubbing her lotion on her legs , kneeling down in front of her while she was finishing on the toilet. There was a flash of painful crap and before it was gone, dinner was in my pants and working its way out. Yup I was so scared of what had happened in front of her. She looked at me, blinked her eyes, handed me the wipes and said ‘ here your gunna need these’ finishing in a fit a laughter. Fast forward a bit, end of the shift she puts her light on and I made my way shaking to see what she needed. She needed to let me know that sometimes in the moment, regardless of how seemingly embarrassing it is, that is the moment we need to laugh the most. Life is to short to stay in those feelings for to long. At the end those moments are not even a second thought, most are forgotten about. That 104 year old lady informed me life was too short to sweat the small stuff, and that was the small stuff. And laughter is really the best medicine.
Oh and this has helped me a ton. If I am going to eat some where other then home.. a business, friend, or family member. Amazon has the little plastic left over containers with snap on lids. The ones I get are collapsable and fit right in my bag. Before I start eating, I get my container out and guess who is going to have an amazing lunch tomorrow…. Yup that’s me. I always get so excited packing tomorrow’s lunch too. Now I can’t tell you how many people have started doing the same thing, some wait till after they eat to fill their lunch container. Although most of them do that excited for lunch they will have waiting for them. There may or may not have been a silly song and seated dance happening along with it sometimes. After I pop the container in my bag so I can just enjoy my meal. I don’t know if that’s something that might help. There small containers so it’s quick and easy to do, even off to the side if need be. Thank you for just being you my friend, you truly make my heart happy.

Hi Nicole, I feel the same on everything but it would be impossible for me to explain it all like you did! There is so much deep insight into your psyche and thought about how you felt. I felt the same on many instances but at the time the things happened i didn´t register them outright. When I hear you talk about it, all of it comes back into my mind. Very well done and very helpful to reconnect and understand myself. Thank you

Biotene mouthwash and lozenges help with the dry mouth. The mouthwash is a cumulative effect, so it takes a few times before you notice, but it’s nice and doesn’t burn. The lozenges are really helpful, especially if you are stuck without your water. I hope that helps. Thank you for a great video and putting yourself out there! 😊

I'm going in for my 3 days pre op testing on monday. I'm terrified of the surgery and all of the post op issues that may come up. So scared that I might regret it or that I might not be strong enough to overcome the challenges but at 116 kg and having failed everything else I really don't have much of a choice ...

Five days after surgery, I finally moved my bowels and I swear it felt like I was birthing a small child. Owie owie owie!!! It was months before I felt like I was halfway back to normal with consistent use of Miralax. I'm now 20 mos PO RNY and I go daily but still have issues with slight constipation. I do eat veggies, fruits and whole grain everything and drink lots of water, but I think with the amount of protein we eat it tends to still constipate so I am assuming this is something I will be dealing with lifelong. I did hear that the doctors are having the patients start on Miralax the week before surgery to get ahead of that horrible first experience of passing your bowels, which I think is smart and wish it was something I had known to do before surgery, so those that are pre-surgery take note!!

Body odor can be caused by bacteria in the folds of loose skin. It helps to use deodorant in areas such as under the apron, leg crease, and under breasts. I'm not saying this is your issue, but it's something to consider.

Massaging my stomach and massaging a magnesium gel or lotion on my stomach helps me move my bowels. There are instructions on you tube. Magnesium lotion is also very good for restless legs, and rubbing on chest helps with sleep.
