  • The first in a series of videos that documents our newest project: building a Hatz Classic Biplane from scratch! We start building the wing ribs by making nose and tail pieces, then cutting and fitting the capstrip to fit in the jig.

Very nice! That is a great looking jig. It’s nice to see that a folding table can contribute to building something flat and true.

The table is actually pretty “not flat.” 🤪 built the jig extra stuff so it serves as its own datum. The plexiglass sheeting makes it extra easy to work withz

That's a cool looking airplane. Whenever you need motivation look at pictures.

Our biggest inspiration came from a Hatz biplane we took a ride in while visiting Switzerland! We will have to share the story about meeting the builders.

How very exciting. Building an aircraft is right up there with flying one. Go for it!

Very nice jig. I've been looking at the Hatz website and am considering a set of plans. Are you happy with the plans? Are they easy to understand? I love the aircraft design and can't believe I never really heard about it till recently. It looks like the design has everything you would want in a biplane. I look forward to seeing your future videos.

I use to build model u-control, and RC planes when I was a kid. No way I would trust myself to be gluing stuff together and then flying in it.

It takes a little practice but anyone can build a safe, capable aircraft!

Nope... You have way more patience than I do. I would get maybe 2 ribs done and be like, back to Trade a Plane! 😂

Ha! Yes it helps to already have something to fly while building...😜

Very different video style than your usual! Same vibe as some videos I've watched of people making tiny metal things on lathes and CNC mills. Will you keep this style for your fabrication videos?

Yes, for this series of build videos we will mostly stay with this kind of style, exactly like you describe! But we will also continue making our flight vlog adventures as well.

What a cool build! I’ll bet you got the wood from trees you planted too. I love the metal kit builds but this is very neat.
