kiryu and his brother both experienced awful shit but kiryu controlled it and nishiki used it as a motiv to become the most powerful man in the tojo clan
What really intrigues me about Nishiki's character is that he was never meant to be a yakuza. The same could be said about Kiryu, but Nishiki didn't have the ability to settle scores and situations with his fists. Which is why Kiryu was gonna have his own family and Nishiki was meant to support him. This idea of Nishiki only being used as a tool to help Kiryu climb the Tojo clan ranks is further cemented by Shimano's comments on who Kazama is rooting for to start their eventual family and why killing a patriarch will improve Kiryu's credibility in the streets. Nishiki didn't deserve any of these horrific events that happened, but it eventually made him snap and turned him into a cold blooded killer with no respect or loyalty. I love Nishiki's downfall in this game, but I wish it spent a little more time developing the friendship with Kiryu and fleshing out his character development. Otherwise, this is a great game in the series and highly recommend it as a starting point for newcomers, compared to Yakuza 0 being more of a back story and not having any connections with the rest of the series.
From a lot of comments I've seen, Yakuza 0 actually helped further establish Nishiki's character, along with his friendship to Kiryu, making his downfall and eventual confrontation with Kiryu all the more tragic - especially if newcoming players to the series started with Y0.
@@Darkliger01 Can confirm as someone who strted with Y0. It was shocking and tragic to see him go down that way, considering *SPOILERS for Yakuza 0* He was the one who stopped Kiryu from killing Shibusawa and said he'd cross the line with Kiryu if there ever was a need, and that it's not worth becoming a killer, as it will stain you for the rest of your life.
Unfortunately, Kiwami pretty much resolved all the plothooks in one sentence, or introduced them in one sentence or cutscene never to use again. I was disappointed to see that entire plot and main story writing were unchanged since the original PS2 game, lacking even by that era's standards, but at least we did get some semi-proper closure with Nishkiyama's story after all.
pretty funny how we learn that he just wasn't made for Yakuza, he was pretty good at just normal work, in 0 he was above average even considering the bubble standards, and with his abilities he would easily be atleast a big star SOMEWHERE, if not his own company really (Also i blame Kazama for knowing where nishiki is falling, but just leaving it for no reason, like man, Kiryu at his lowest had Tachibana come in picture, and Nishiki? completely alone, ready to kill himself after all of that shit. Man i was desperate to see him come back alive atleast at some point...)
@@jorgesite417 I think he meant Shintaro Kazama, Kiryu and Nishiki's adoptive father. We got a glimpse of the old Nishiki for a microsecond when he saved Kiryu, Yumi, and Haruka from Jingu but by that point it was already too late.
Akira Nishikiyama Tojo Clan Nishikiyama Family Patriarch Still don't understand why he betrayed Kiryu, yet in the end, he took responsibility for his actions. Fortunately, we can still see him as part of Ichiban Kasuga
Whether on purpose (Shimano) or on accident (Kashiwagi) Nishikiyama was always reminded that where he failed, Kiryu would've succeeded. 10 years of failures, lost loved ones, and self doubt was simply brushed away by others saying kiryu would've done it. Not to mention he was already struggling with his self doubt already in yakuza 0. all that combined, and he grew to resent his brother because, to the ruthless Nishikiyama, everyone would've cast him aside for Kiryu.
@@moiqtheplayer okay, not ten years, little lapse of judgement on my end.
